about the assault allegations against her husband. >> good morning. thanks for joining us for abc action news at 9:00. i'm dan shaffer. >> i'm lindsay logue in for deiah riley. a massive fire guts a supermarket and employees were inside. >> abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is live at the supermarket. >> you spoke to the owner this morning? the damage most of the morning. we are getting a better look with daylight. you can see the entire store gutted, destroyed from the inside. investigators will try to determine exactly where in the store this fire started. now, as you mentioned, i did speak to the owner. he was too upset to speak on camera. he told me he was thankful his employees made it out. a quick moving fire tore through the big and deal super

time. one of them explaining to investigators what they saw. >> they were finishing up for the night. he said he saw some smoke so he grabbed a fire extinguisher to fight the fire. >> nothing could be done. when tampa firefighters arrived they say smoke and flames were pouring from the building. due to safety concerns, firefighters were forced to stay outside and attack the flames of this three-alarm fire with two aerial units. the building totally gutted. >> i didn'kn >> store customers shocked to find all of this this morning. their thoughts with the store owners and those workers who made it out. >> as long as nobody is hurt, that's all that matters. you can rebuild and replace the store. >> reporter: the fire marshal will be out this morning to assess the damage and try to determine an exact cause. firefighters were here throughout the night and this morning knocking out hot spots.

as the chef. get ready for changes at one of the most popular retail stores in the country. why target believes smaller stores mean bigger business so you don't waste your money. >> reporter: for decades stores got bigger adding more departments, more products, larger more sprawling suburban locations. target started a major change that could shake up the industry. it's getting smaller. this is what we think target, a giant box at the back of a huge parking lot, a lot that is almost empty unless it's holiday shopping season. target is starting to shrisk. they are fighting declining sales with smaller stores like these. "the wall street journal" says instead of building 150,000 square foot stores, the new stores will be 45,000 square

her. police in utah are looking for a father who left his 5- year-old daughter alone on a college campus with temperatures dipping below 39 degrees. you can see the man on camera here dropping her off, giving her a blanket. the girl's mother says he told the daughter to shut up, lay down and go to sleep. she did sleep there for up to two hours before a security guard found her. the girl's parents are divorced. she was staying with her father and his family that night. police are trying to questi the father. the girl's mother said she filed a protective order but the court's denied it. pinellas county leaders are asking for your help to make sure your kids succeed in school. they want your ideas on how to close the achievement gap. the school district is hosting the second of four meetings to gather ideas on how to improve student performance. to give your thoughts, the meeting begins at 6:00 at boca ciega high school.

colorado forced thousands from their homes. firefighters are trying to get control of the flames. the high winds are fueling them. the jenkins fire started yesterday morning. it burned one home. three other structures and close to 12,000 acres. the cause has not been released. it may be fall but summer is making a come back. much of the eastern half of the country could see record high temperatures this week. more than 40 cities are looking at potent heat. meteorologists say much of the warmer temperatures will be in the south and southeastern u.s. but the heat wave extends north to chicago and east to new york city and boston. >> the opposite end, there is snow in the sierra mountains in california. it caught some drivers off guard. take a look at the fresh powder that prompted drivers to get out the tire chains. one family had to wait it out

october is national domestic violence awareness month but it's a year long commitment at abc action news. we are focused on connecting volunteers with advocates at local domestic violence centers. there are a number of wayso there were 29,017 reported cases of domestic violence in our community alone last year. this morning we are visiting with the center serving manatee county in particular. take a look. >> hope family services always needs volunteers. we cannot do it alone. we are a 24-hour facility. we help people all the time. so, a staff of 30 get pretty tired. we love our volunteers, not

we have services in outreach office, the courthouse and what i love is going over to our thrift store, the hope chest. those women have a good time. they sort through clothes. they sing, dance, music is going on. it's an up lifting place to be and they are saving lives. >> and within the last 24 hours, we learned that our taking action against domestic action violence campaign from 2015 has been nominated for an emmy that campaign centered around the yellow dress stage play is a finalist in the category for community service competing with journalists from florida, louisiana, alabama, georgia and the island of puerto rico. we are excited and honored to be nominated. the emmy winners will be announced december the 3rd. we are keeping our finger's crossed. >> how has this impacted the community at large. >> the community -- it's a
