[ music ] there was free rides being offered around the county with 68% of people already voting early or three vote by mail. we asked one of voter why she waited and she said she wanted to vote early but lost her id. that was not going to stop her. she made sure and come out today. >> next time there may not be a next time. today is important. >> reporter: so far in hillsborough county more registered republicans have voted versus democrats. some 36,000 voters are unaffiliated here. in tampa, brendaliss gonzalez,

first i want to bring in dr. susan macmanus. republican operatives in the last 30 minutes are saying that republicans in key counties in florida are outperforming the 2012 turnout. what is your read on that? >> it could be one of the reasons that donald trump says that is to counter a good story all over the country which is going toward hillary clinton. and if there is rn for republicans he is trying to say wait and see. >> we will get back in a little bit and talk with dr. macmanus about some other things just coming in. first polls just closed minutes ago impressive indiana and kentucky and so the results start to come in and we will now tonight at some point who will be the next president of the united states.

for the white house donald trump already crying foul about early voting in nevada. you are looking at lines in clark county, nevada. the abc action news reporter campaign has claimed polling locations stayed open two hours beyond the closing time but a judge rejected that lawsuit keeping all of the votes in tact. meanwhile th donald trump supporters in the bay area. let's begin with michael palouse of in downtown tampa. >> reporter: 29 electoral votes go a long way. some say it is the only way he will get to the white house. they are setting up over my left shoulder and getting ready for a very big crowd tonight and a very rambunctious crowd.

the main prop here is this life- sized cutout of donald trump. i did not realize he was this tall. this would be a very important prop tonight. many voters are extremely excited. they told me they wanted trump to win and they have been on the abc action news reporter train ever since he announced he was running for president. tonight with a lot of people excited and down the street my colleague ryan raiche is at the hillary clinton watch party. >> reporter: i'm in the farm where this place will fill up with supporters. you can see the stage is set with the balloon right behind me and these tables laid out. the only person we would say tonight is the candidate herself.

every day. here is some video of her at a recent rally in the dade city area. there is a lot of energy tonight and i am not sure if it is because the campaign is almost over or they will have a victory tonight if you ask them. the lineup for tonight is senator bill nelson along with mayor bob buckhorn. two familiar faces we have about the turnout with the early voting. here is something to chew on. hillsborough county has a great track record selecting the winner in all the presidential elections since 1960 with one exception in 1992 selecting george h.w. bush and the winner was bill clinton. ryan raiche, abc action news.

clinton and trump are hoping to celebrate tonight. this is a look inside the party headquarters for this evening. the biggest detail ever for new york city has police protection the candidates. you are looking at a video of officers stationed outside of parties in manhattan with special counterterrorism forces deployed at 1200 voting sites. meanwhile the governme attacks from russia. cyber security researchers say while the system is vulnerable, it is not likely they can affect the results. we have extra protections in florida because we still use paper ballots and even when computers are used they are not connected to the internet. if you saw a disruption today or

there's been a steady stream of voters in anna maria island all day long. there hasn't been any problems in the county but there is a handful of people who feel like their vote might not get counted because of this piece of paper which was turned in to the supervisor of elections office. 80 people received the news their rights were violated. it stemmed from this challenge filed monday by charles webb. >> he filed a question and anybody who is allowed to question whether somebody has the right to vote or not. >> reporter: web believes people are not residents. he believes they are renters. those people will still be able to vote. >> they will fill out a ballot which will be counted but come

you can see the parking lot filling up but that wasn't the case earlier this morning. they were off to a rocky start because of a computer software glitch in tablets workers used during the signing the process. it only affected 75 voters, but they were able to vote on a provisional ballot. most of the bigger problems were in other parts of the state like in pompano beach with two clerks fired after a disturbance and deputies had to respond. election officials say they do not follow proper policies. there were some small power outages which caused delays in brevard county. supervisors had backed up power for the machines in the outages only lasted one hour. back home in tampa bay they really were not too many big problems that were beyond the norm for election night. there were some ballot scanning

overall nothing major. let's hope it stays that smooth throughout the night. i am jarrod holbrook taking action for you. right now david jolly and charlie chris hoping to celebrate tonight once the results start to come in. jolly looking to retain his seat while charlie chris would get back into office if he wins. both campaigns are having watch parties tonight. let's begin with erik waxler at the jolly camp. >> reporter: the jolly campaign tells me the congressman has been out the door since 5 a.m. visiting polling places all around pinellas county. he will continue to do that until 7:00 and then make his way here to join the party that hasn't started yet. congressman jolly replaced bill young in 2014 after a special election.

overnight with a chance of a few showers tomorrow with the titan doppler radar showing a beautiful election day with temperatures just a bit above normal. the temperatures now are upper 70s and bartow at 74. it is low to mid 70s across most of the area with the dew points comfortable today from the mid-50s and low 60s. i think they stay on the low side behind our next front that dwells in tomorrow. we had maybe a couple showers and cooler air by thursday into the weekend. 70s right now with a look at the satellite picture. today mostly clear at least until midnight and then we begin to see some clouds roll in the evenly chance of a couple showers. i do think the difference tomorrow compared to today will be mostly cloudy most of the day and overnight through thursday morning we clear out again and you will notice
