>> good afternoon everyone. i am paul lagrone in for ashley glass. >> i am laura harris with a big story out of st. petersburg right now. we just got this picture today of 72-year-old david roundtree. he is the crossing guard hit and killed before students were led out of school yesterday. this is a story we were telling you about on transit yesterday -- on the now yesterday. it was charles walton the wheel and charged with dui. he is now in jail. >> the now's clifton french join us from the intersection where he worked and people really knew roundtree around there. >> reporter: he had been in the schools for several years. i was told he retired from seeing heat high school but this is the intersection where he was helping those students every morning across the street right here. every morning and afternoon but

his front yard living just a couple houses away. according to police this accident happened just a little ways down this road as was repairing this area for school to get out. according to police, who was setting up orange cones when a car smashed into a truck into a school zone sign and then into roundtree . his family still cannot believe this happened. >> we are still in a state of shock. my father. i said to it's just stayed in my head. my father is gone. i just cannot get over it. >> reporter: and as you can see here, a memorial of flowers and notes continues with roundtree tiring from pinellas county schools. he was the manager at st. pete high but he was most will not for his singing as he was part

throughout the area. he's to travel florida singing but i will tell you about more about that as we learn more about him at 5:00. for the now tampa bay i clifton french. protesters taking to the streets today for president- elect donald trump's victory last night. this is video of what it looks like. thousands of students and staff outside a high school berkeley, california. berkeley is one of the most liberal areas around the country. we want to take you here now to the chopper video from just moments ago of another school walkout in arizona. this is in the phoenix area. there is two different high schools with walkouts. we are still waiting to find out the motive behind these walkouts. >> someone burning and look

as news trump was going to win the election spread, investors worried about what a trump presidency could mean. but that's not translate into a bottom line and the dow jones jumped more than 200 points after hillary clinton conceded the election today. global markets in asia and mexico did close down amid overnight uncertainty in the markets in europe recovered after the initial drop. today president barack obama delivering we all needed to hear. >> saying we're all rooting for president-elect trump's success. >> we have to remember that we are actually all on one team. this is a scrimmage and we are not democrats first. we are that republicans first. >> the president said he expects to have a successful and peaceful transition with

but the current congress will work to pick their leaders in both chambers as early as next week when they are back in session. it is not clear if paul ryan will actually keep that position because of his public this connect with donald trump. the leadership in the house could change even though it will stay republican. marijuana and the minimum wage and the death penalty all three big issues people boating over america -- voting over america. 84 states -- eight 84 states have voted to legalize marijuana and they will all allow recreational pot and in florida they will allow medical marijuana. so far federal authorities have been pretty hands-off with marijuana under president obama, but we will have to wait and see what happens under

how much money people would make in the economy is really at the center of the results last night. >> four states are raising the minimum wages. arizona, colorado, and maine have voted to raise it up to $12 per hour. they will do that by 2020. washington state will raise fares up to $13.50. more states are also showing their support with the death penalty. people in nebraska voted to bring it back and oklahoma passing and california will keep using it and speed up the process for executions. it is now legal in more than 30 states including right here in florida. let's take a look outside right now. shay, the sky is not feel -- falling. we might see rain for the first time in how long? >> it has been a little while. you may see a couple of showers and a few sprinkles moving across the area.

folks on the sand and even in the water. so conditions certainly happen dry across much of the area today. right now across tampa bay all of our major roads and bridges are on the dry side. any of the rain that it does hold together and i know it does look impressive, most of this is not going to make its way to the ground. but we do have a few showers across hernando county and a few sprinkles with nothing to do have are widespread. this is all associated with the cold front that is moving across for now we are still on the warmer side of the system. we will continue to see quite a bit of cloud cover and the temperatures falling through the 70s tomorrow morning with temperatures in the but cooler than what we have seen lately. i will have more on timing on tonight coming up in my next forecast. new york on fire. take a look at that. it has nothing to do with the election. the significance behind this

welcome back everyone. happening right now a fight over ridesharing businesses that uber and lyft is from over. today the his burke county public transportation commission legalized uber and lyft. the agreement spells out fees to pay in order to operate and it also will have to carry insurance florida law and the cars they drive cannot be more than 10 years old and they must be inspected. and then this was the longtime sticking point with the drivers also getting background checks but do not have to have fingerprints. the deal is temporary through 2017. the hope is that state lawmakers to pass ridesharing goals in their next legislative session which starts in january. today we all probably feel about the way donald trump's

let's talk about the weather . we could actually use some rain . >> we don't have a ton of rain but we at least have some. will be a few spots especially in the northern counties city can see around tampa bay it is still nice and dry. you don't want to get wet so there are plenty of dry spots out there. the rivergate tower camera showing you some extra clouds across tampa bay and let's take a look to the north here on you can see we do have a few light showers around forrest city and moving across i-75 and also around push now and farther south around brooksville. the majority will even reach the ground. this is very light rain and this is trying to make its way inland so we are not looking at every night but we do at least have a chance for a few showers

ground with in a few spots tonight. you can see on futurecast just how little of the rain this model is projecting. not very much at all. i do think a little more than this will occur, but we are not looking at a terribly wet trend. by 8:00 at night we may see a few sprinkles or a light shower. the cloud cover pushing south was the front as it dries out and by 8:00 we are nice and clear and dry cooler. not dramatically cooler but on the clear side through the afternoon. by noon with all of the sunshine they are already warming back up into the mid-70s and tomorrow afternoon nice and dry and sunny. tomorrow morning as you are getting kids ready it will mainly be in the mid-60s around tampa with mid-50s around citrus county. maybe a little but cooler to start the day and you may want that extra layer as they are headed out the door.

care. >> we told you about those rules and the center for medicaid in september. now a federal district court is blocking them because of a lawsuit by a group that represents most nursing homes. the feds are trying to have too much authority over the homes. the rules were supposed to take effect at the end of this month. there are classes of arbitration in the fine print of nursing home contracts the new rules will let you take those issues to court. i about to put somebody on blast but it is public record now. diana doherty is now the most popular person in lakeland. we do know she one $13 million in the florida lottery. it was for $80 million and she took the lump sum and bought her ticket at a lakeland 7-

breaking news happening right now. we are learning this walkout at two different high schools in the phoenix area and arizona are in fact related to the results of the election. this just happened within the last hour. students marching toward the arizona state capitol in protest of the trum we have watched similar walkouts in parts of, when you in berkeley. no surprise there. speculator how young those kids are. and then here you see this here in austin, texas weather is a march happening for the very same reason. you can see all those people and it looks like it is raining but not stopping them from protesting with flags and

things. so far both of these look like they appear to be peaceful. hopefully they stay that way. you can also factor in social media which had a huge reaction today negative and positive. today you are seeing the hashtag #twitterblackout with people process to the election by changing profile pictures to black. 17 the electoral vote should not be more important than the voter of th referring to the fact that hillary clinton did when the popular vote of the people. another trending hashtag is #notmypresident with fires in oakland in california. several students at university of california davis downtown with things remaining for the most part peaceful. i also continue to stress we have seen a huge positive

along with all other nations willing to get along with us. >> this is also a big one we heard from trump during the campaign that he would work with congress on indian illegal immigrant -- ending illegal immigration. that includes a wall on the mexico border. other actions include an amendment to impose term limits on all members of congress and se court. >> hillary clinton still won the popular vote as we said earlier in the show but lost the electoral college. and everything holds she is the fifth person who was defeated by the electoral college. 1824 with andrew jackson losing to john quincy adams. 1876 was samuel tilden losing to weatherford hayes.

-- rejected cruiser. new developments about two bodies found on the property of the suspected serial killer in south carolina. this all started when a woman was found alive chained up. the coroner said the couple was buried for a year. a 25-year-old woman and a 29- year-old man have both gotten out of jail when they reported kohlhepp is suspected of killing them but today crews also removed the storage container from the property of kohlhepp where they rescued the woman who was chained of inside. also just in time magazine releasing its cover photo of president-elect donald trump. the photographer said she took it just a few minutes after the concession call.

talking about the weather for us right now. >> it is pretty nice with 78 degrees right now in tampa. there is a cold front that is headed through the state, but you would know it by the cloud cover not the cold air because that has not arrived yet. take a look at the camera and you can see some of the cloud cover in downtown tampa. this is not going to be a dramatic push of cooler air, but we will cooler morning. right now you can see the low 70s around crystal river with a few showers in citrus and hernando county. and all of the rain associated it you can see here. the bulk of it is offshore in the gulf. we will get may be a few showers are sprinkles as it heads south.

pressure building behind it and our next front that rolls through early saturday morning pretty much feel some of those -- chisels out. it will work its way across the country not a real strong front but we will see some slight adjustments to the temperatures as a result of the second front coming through. the water temperature is still at 73 degrees. on saturday if you are planning on heading down to clearwater beach, we are looking at a high of 77 and sunday up to 78. it is still hot with a light breeze on sunday as well. still pretty decent beach weather by our standards. take a look at the rest of our forecast for the next couple of days with temperatures near 80 degrees tomorrow and then as the front approaches we just see those temperatures come down a little bit for saturday morning and lows are going to be in the upper 50s to about 60 degrees. sunday it is back up to the mid- 60s with temperatures in the

we have more fronts behind the next one that i was talking about for this weekend and denis will have more on that coming up in the seven-day forecast on abc action news at 5:00. >> it looks like it'll be a good day to go see the bears and the bucs game this weekend. the news just keeps getting better about these twins. the doctor says they are doing much better than expected and the 13 month old twins were joined at the top of their heads. they had a 27 hour surgery last month to be separated. they have since had breathing tubes removed and the doctors hope they will leave the hospital in a few weeks and go into a rehabilitation center. here are some of the big things that happened today. look at this. up in flames in new york this incredible video we are now seeing from where they are starting this morning. this building was once a steel plant but now companies use

statements has just been elected the 45th president of the united states and it is not sitting well with everyone. >> this is the time for active parenting and not just for kids. ib told daughters saying i'm confused. as a parent it is not going to your child and not just saying how do you feel that really how do you feel ask any way that they can tell you how they are feeling and helping them understand why they may feel a certain way feel confused and then strategize with them their own control so when they feel a certain way this is what you can do to remind you that you are okay and that you still are important. took the young girls voting for what could have been the first woman president expect little girls and women we are still wonderful. this is one event so it really is about reminding our daughters and our sons about their importance.
