car several times. ahead in a live report, i'll detail exactly what happened and the condition and possible charges this morning. and good morning, thanks for joining us for abc action news on this friday, veterans day. i'm dan shaffer. >> good morning, i'm dee. it is a beautiful start to veterans day. it's a nice cool start to the day. >> yeah, you know what, it's looking fantastic out there, so whatever you have in mind to do today, the weather should not be getting in your way, but it is about 5 to 10 degrees cooler this morning than yesterday. 57 right now in lutes, 56 in plant city 61 in tampa, ruskin at 56. check out to the north. in citrus county and even parts of hernando county we have some temperatures in the 40s. it's 49 right now in beverly hills, crystal river and floral city and homosassa right at the 50-degree mark. brooksville has been in the mid- 40s this morning, and as we look a little farther south

low 50s in shady hills and hudson, new port new port richey holiday, with lots of sunshine today we're going to warm up pretty quickly. we'll still top out today near 80 degrees across tampa bay, and again, with lots of sunshine, no rain in sight, a gorgeous friday and veterans day, and i'll show you what happens for the weekend coming up in just a bit. janelle. so far so good out there on the roads. we started off the morning with some construction on 275 right at ashley. all of that are now good to go there, this is a live look there i-275 and ashley up to speed in both directions. if you're heading out the door maybe in lakeland, heading to i- 4 to come into tampa, you're looking at a smooth ride. here's a live look i-75 just west -- or i-4 just west of i-75

protests erupted across the country. portland police have several people in custody after crowds started breaking windows and set fire to a dumpster. there were an estimated 4,000 people in that protest. more than a thousand people took to the streets in los angeles, and crowds in denver shut down an interstate. it was the same scene in dallas where several people ended up being arrested before it got started. police did warn everybody that anybody who didn't have a permit would be arrested immediately. >> there was another protest in oakland, a day after several police were injured by people throwing rocks and fireworks. that protest briefly shut down an interstate. there were also renewed protests right hear in tampa's ybor city. first we're hearing some reports of schoolyard bullying since the election. the pasco school district is investigating a nasty comment a wesley chapel high school teacher reportedly made, john sousa who coaches the boy's golf team is now on administrative leave after telling a group of african-

sent back to africa. we contacted sousa but he would not comment. also just outside of detroit, white kids who apparently support trump are accused of blocking pathways for minority students and chanting this during a lunch hour. >> build a wall, they're chanting build that wall. the mother of the student who recorded this video tells abc news that racially motivated bullying progressively worse at this school so her daughter decided to record it. the 8 second clip has already been viewed more than 4 million times. the principal did release a video statement saying that the chant was unacceptable, assuring that all students are welcome at that school. back here in tampa, protestors marched through e boar for several hours last night. >> at one point things got a little heated when the protestors accidentally marched past a bar filled with members of the u.s. marine corps on a

tampa police using a streetcar mounted patrols and bike officers to keep those two groups apart. tampa police separating the protestors and marines and allowed the protests to continue. >> i hope he matures as a person. i hope a lot of this rhetoric in the primary election and the election cycle, i hope that was like just a show. i really hope that he like matures. we're all here because we're scared for the worst. >> protestors marched for nearly two hours. there were tampa's immigrant community held their own protests. >> people from cuba dominica and puerto rico took to the streets. they told us they're fearful of what a trump administration could bring. as a teenager augustine lumbar ran through a cuban army mine field and scaled a fence at guantanamo bay just to reach the u.s. now he's worried that trump's anti-immigration stance could produce laws that rip families apart. >> no man in the united states

50 years and they are still illegal but they are paying taxes in this country. >> protestors say they want president-elect trump to step down, which they realize is unlikely. many protests were peaceful, but there were some shocking moments of violence. take a look at this video from chicago. it all started with a minor traffic accident. several people dragged david wilcox out of his car and beat him up because they thought he voted for trump. you can hear witnesses yelling don't vote trump in wilcox tried to get back in his car several times. the attackers wouldn't let him. one of them drove his car out of the way. witnessesclaim wilcox used a slur. president-elect trump responded to the protests on twitter calling them, quote, very unfair. in a tweet trump also said the protestors were incited by the media. this comes after trump tried to present a more conciliatory tone in his victory speech and

a wild scene overnight starting in pasco and ending in pinellas county. a high speed chase ending when the suspects crashed flipping the car. all of it coming to an end inside a shopping center parking lot in north st. pete. abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is gathering more information this morning. thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. >> you're right about that. this whole thing could have turned out a lot worse. that vehicle just got towed away. there's still plenty of damage le all about the parking lot. that car coming down 49th street north, actually hit two palm trees before it came in this parking lot eventually flipping several times ending up on all fours. actually they have a crew out here this morning cleaning up this mess before these stores open this morning. check out this video we got of this car this morning. this all started when deputies in pasco county spotted this books cxl that they believe was stolen just before 3 this

pursuit as they got near pinellas county. they radioed deputies right here who immediately used their helicopter to locate that vehicle. deputies on the ground then pursued that vehicle heading up 49th street north right here in st. pete. that car was going at a high rite of speed, possibly at speeds above 100 miles per hour this morning. it eventually veered off the road ending up inside of this publix shopping center parking lot hitting those two palm trees before landing on all fours and flipping multiple time out here this morning. now investigators tell us there were two people inside of that vehicle. both were taken to a local hospital. we're told their injuries were not life-threatening. at this point we're still waiting on official word on possible charges this morning as well. of course we'll be here throughout the morning gathering more information. as soon as we get it of course we'll bring it to you. for now reporting live in st. pete, rodney dunigan abc action news. the polk county sheriff's office investigating a deputy involved shooting this morning. it started as a domestic dispute.

and killing a man after they say he shot his own mother. it all happened in lakeland last night just after 6. john pachurek is the man shot and killed. his 75-year-old mother calls deputies after she says her son flipped out and threatened to kill her. during a fight with his brother he shot his mother in both legs. >> she was almost in tears. >> i did, i did. i grabbed her like this, and i was like oh, my gosh because the shots were just, you know. >> and it was loud, like. that close, especially when you have -- involved. >> yeah. >> and then you hear gunshots. >> and you hear that, you know it's not good. >> deputies killed pachurek after they say he pointed a gun at them. the sheriff says his deputies are on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation. a toddler is recovering this morning after surviving a fall from a 4th floor apartment in miami. luckily apparently that 3-year- old girl landed in some bushes, did not hit the pavement.

was able to move her arms and legs and looks like she's going to be just fine. now they're trying to figure out the nature of her fall, including whether she fell from a window or a balcony. 43 days left until christmas. many of you might want to get a little extra cash to pay for some gifts. >> toys"r"us is looking for you. today the retailer is hosting a holiday hiring event. toys toys"r"us is planning to hiring 400 seasonal workers. if you're interested you can company's website. amazon is hiring right here in the bay area. the company is looking for seasonal warehouse associates in ruskin. the hiring event starts today, runs through sunday at the amazon fulfillment center on laurel ridge avenue. be prepared, you might get hired right on the spot. >> i want to show you video of a dramatic rescue of a bald eagle that got stuck in a storm drain in orlando. this morning we're learning more about the injuries that bird has sustained. the eagle fell into the storm drain yesterday after another

away. crews had to shut down some roads. it took 90 minutes to free the bird. many of you watched the rescue unfold on our facebook page. we did find out that more than -- the more than 5-year-old female eagle has injuries all over, the worst being punctures in her leg, chest and a cracked beak. all right, well, as far as our weather is concerned, we are off to a cooler start to the day, and we are going to plenty of sunshine today, no rain in sight, and i'll let you know how this holds up for the weekend because we have two more fronts on the way. i'll have more on that coming up in the seven-day forecast. 5:10, also coming up, paddled for protesting at school. one texas student says she was physically punished for her beliefs. why her mom gave the okay for the corporal punishment, why she regret it is. >> and you could marry this man

a texas high school student is paddled for not standing during the pledge of allegiance. kerry douglas said she does not believe for standing at the pledge at school or athletic events. there is no school rule saying students must stand.

saying she was being disrespectful. the principal gave her two options, detention or paddling. >> we are supposed to be a nation undergod. that's not what we are right now. i don't feel like i want to represent that. >> her mother says she did give the school permission to paddle her daughter but she says that she was told it was for being disrespectful not that it started with the pledge. the school superintendent says it's never punished a student for sitting during the pledge but says they do punish ever since the election people upset with the results have been talking about leaving the u.s. >> one man from sweden wants to help with you with that. this is gustaf halan. he is 30 years old, he likes netflix and long walks, his words not mine. he says he is quote, a fine specimen but has some weather damage and minor eye problems. he is auctions himself off on ebay, for that price you get to

citizenship. the ebay listing has been taken down. the site says in its terms and provisions says there is a ban for selling humans. he says the whole thing was a joke in the wake of the u.s. presidential election. he did set the price high so no one would bid and says he wouldn't have wanted to explain to his parents about this. >> i got somebody to introduce you to this weekend. >> that's going to go over really well. >>y >> tampa, take a look, 61 degrees if you're headed out the door right now, clear water, 57, st. pete, 65, yeah, these temperatures are quite a bit cooler in places than they were yesterday at this time. clear skies out there, winds are out of the east, northeast. again, i was telling you yesterday that drier air would settle in through the afternoon, hopefully you noticed it as we reached our highs around 81 degrees. this morning we're noticing it

about 5 to almost 10 degrees lower across much of tampa bay than what it was yesterday at this time. so, again, i think it's a noticeable difference and it's going to be another gorgeous warm, and sunny afternoon. and nice and dry, too. right through noon, nothing showing up on our futurecast. we spin the clock all the way through to 8:00 tonight, not a thing. a few extra clouds starting to build in tonight overnight, but no rain associated with it. if you're going to be out and about no big deal, and take a look at a high of 79. the water temperature 74, a light breeze out there. it's going to be another gorgeous beach day. veterans whatever you have in mind, you're not going to have a problem with the weather interrupting. saturday and sunday also looking fabulous with highs near 80 degrees. we do have those cool mornings, though, and then we have another front, so we have one that comes through early saturday, then another one that comes through midweek.

a horrifying and disturbing dog attack on a california mother and her young son is caught on camera. they were attacked by two large dogs right outside their own home. before we show you the video we want to warn you that it is disturbing. this surveillance video shows that mom and her 2-year- old surrounded by those large dogs. you see the mom there, the two dogs, and one of the dogs just comes running after her. now they're surrounded by those two dogs. the mother is desperately trying to protect her son who both bitten several times. a neighbor comes over, tries to help, but the dog still went stop attacking. after another man comes in to help, the mom and that child finally get inside. the dead raced home after finding out what happened to his family. he says his son was rushed to a hospital. >> laceration in his face and in his leg. luckily i think he's going to be okay, and we're just praying that he doesn't get any

is autistic. he will need plastic surgery. those dogs were taken into quarantine by animal care. new information about how genetically modified mosquitoes may be used in the future to fight the spread of zika here in florida. >> people in monroe county just approved a test of the gmo insects, and now other counties in the state say they want to try it too. the scientists leading the project in the key says the male lab mosquitoes reproduce with wild female mosquitoes to create infertile ofpr effective and believes the practice could soon come to places like key largo, miami and eventually the tampa bay area. a local state representative is among several leaders now petitioning the federal government to let pinellas county also try these gmo mosquitoes. coming up on abc action news at 5, violent anti-trump protests erupt in portland and innocent bystanders get caught in the middle. >> and we're getting a look at what deputies saw when they first entered the pulse
