live from the station taking action for you, this is abc action news. >> we begin this morning at 9 with breaking news. take a look at these incredible ct massive sinkhole there created by a water main break. that car keeps sinking until it's completely gone. it's swallowed by the water. the citrus county sheriff's office sharing these photos from the scene. that water main break happened early this morning on truman boulevard in beverly hills. >> deputies say truman is shut down from south washington street to south barber street as crews work to repair that water main break. no injuries have been reported at this time. we do have a crew on the way right now. we'll bring you a live update

now take a look at this, trump trashing graffiti on a mobile home. >> you see there it says burn everything with an arrow pointing to a mobile home next door set on fire overnight. reporter clifton french is live at the scene right now. any word yet on what caused this fire? >> yeah, we're still waiting for hillsborough county fire department to get back with us. you know, witnesses tell me that they've seen two people inside of this mobile home. it's vacant. they've seen people in there the last three nights started, but the words right here on the mobile home next door show that this is alone suspicious. >> it's very scary. >> spray painted words of hate and violence, expletive trump, burn everything, and an arrow pointed directly to the scene of a potential crime. >> we're going to have a civil war if this keeps on, you know. >> a fire mainly contained to the inside of this trailer directly behind anna foster's

action news. thanks clifton, and this morning we have a better look at who will be a part of president-elect trump's administration. >> republican national committee chairman reince priebus will be his white house chief of staff. the president-elect passing over stephen bannon. bannon oversaw trump's entire presidential election campaign. instead, bannon will serve as his chief strategist and senior counselor. groups are condemning that choice because of bannon's history with a nationalist website. cabinet members include newt gingrich, rudy giuliani, and chris christie. >> the president-elect is clarifying his plan for a wall along the u.s. southern border. he said he would consider making it a fence in some places. >> for certain areas i would but certain areas a wall is very appropriate. i'm very good at this, this is called construction. >> so part wall, part fence.

taking the presidential salary of $400,000 a year. instead he'll be paid just $1. we're finding out attorneys representing donald trump have filed a motion to delay the fraud lawsuit against him and trump university until after the inauguration. the president-elect's attorney argues that extra months would give both sides time to possibly reach a settlement. right now the civil trial is scheduled to begin two weeks from today. president obama's farewell tour overseas is taking on new meaning with trump's victory last week. as the president travels summit in peru this week, president-elect trump is expected to loom over the trip every step of the way with his triumph sparking concerns across the world. president obama is expected to speak to world leaders about shared values leading up to the next administration. the president departs today on that six-day trip. and good morning from the weather center and a lot of fog out there this morning, not as widespread as yesterday. at this point we're lifting

morning lows, take a look at this, rather cool in some spots but mostly mild here with 60s tomorrow, same areas we saw 60s this morning, we'll see 40s. get ready for that. we have to get through a front, and it's a slow moving system here, a lot of cloud associated with it. it will take all day and all night and even early tomorrow for us to break out into some clear air, and then we'll begin to see some very nice conditions across the area. temps right now in the low to mid-60s up to the north. notice the more breaks of sun here and that will allow for temperatures to be a little bit milder through the afternoon, so about 80 across the southeastern counties. we'll keep it in the 70s in general here, and we'll do that with mostly cloudy skies. we'll talk about that clearing and the cooler temperatures ahead when i see you in a few minutes. an update now on a crash we've been following southbound i-75 to manatee. this crash happened just after state road 64.

happening with this crash. some improvement up to 26 miles per hour. still seeing some delays starting in ellenton. that crash will be completely out of the way. here's a live look at what it looks like, the howard franklin bridge coming into tampa. 9:06. now thanks janelle, iraqi troops are making progress in the fight against isis. they're moving in with caution as they fight back suicide bombers. this is video we got at a newsroom over the horizon from explosions. yesterday special forces entered the city of ninroud. that's south of mosul. witnesses say the terrorist group is fortifying positions, digging new trenches and building barriers on major roads. overnight we learned a disturbing discovery at miami international airport helped agents break an international arms smuggling operation. back in april, customs agents

intrigued, agents put the address on the package for surveillance. they arrested two men for trying to ship 8 guns, 23,000 rounds of ammunition and 19 high capacity magazines to venezuela. three people are dead including an infant after a shooting in a jacksonville food mart parking lot. one man, two women and a baby were in the car when they were shot. one of the women died in the car. thot died from their injuries. investigators say the shooting could be related to an earlier dispute between the two women. >> in jacksonville it's a sad day for everyone who lives in area, and it's a sad day for those who are out here investigating this crime. >> it's not clear who actually fired those shots. investigatorsare hoping to interview possible witnesses. a public memorial is planned for former u.s. attorney general janet reno. services will be held december

kendall campus. reno was the first woman to serve as attorney general of the united states. she grew up in south florida. she fanned controversy when she authorized agents to seize aid elian gonzalez. hundreds in desperate need of medical help had to be turned way at an event offering free care over the weekend. we told you about this on friday. it's a three-day event. organizers say they had no choice but to turn hundreds waiting hours in line for free care at manatee county's remote area medical clinic. the need was so great they ran out of appointment times. there were about 350,000 people living in manatee county, almost half of those people needed a free clinic like the one offered over the weekend. next fall some pasco county middle and high school students will likely be forced to change schools, and that's upsetting many parents. district leaders say enrollment

12 minutes after 9 right now with sweet 16 party took a violent turn in connecticut after somebody opened fire leaving four people hurt. one man seriously injured. it happened saturday night at a club. police say a group crashed that party. a fight broke out inside the club and then moved to the parking lot outside.

the man accused of killing a california deputy execution style is now in custody this morning. >> authorities say the gunman shot that deputy twice in the head. we're told 36-year-old david machado was arrested hours after that killing yesterday after trying to steal a woman's purse. a local sheriff's office says this all started when deputy dennis wallace checked on a report of a suspicious van. authorities believe wallace was shot at point-blank range. another deputy found him a shor where he died. four people are recovering this morning after being attacked during a flash mob. police say two teenagers are responsible for the chaos. it happened last night in philadelphia. the victims include an off-duty detective who tried to stop the attack. police say the group of teens took off after starting the brawl, but they were found later as two 16-year-olds were arrested. they now face assault charges. investigators have not determined a motive for the attack. right now chicago police are sending a message to gang

after more than 600 homicides in that city this year. the police department launched -- the goal is to break up gangs in the so-called hot zones on the west and south sides. this year chicago is on track to have its deadliest year in two decades. new zealand plans on sending military helicopters and a navy ship to rescue hundreds of tourists and residents stranded after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake local time. strong aftershocks are still being felt there this morning. at least two people are dead and injuries have been reported. take a look at some of the damage the quake cracking apart roads and homes. after touring the area today, new zealand's prime minister john key says rebuilding efforts could run into the billions of dollars. that tremor triggered landslides and a small tsunami. new zealand is no stranger to earthquakes.

by an earthquake in 2011 that killed 185 people. >> that earthquake not just causing problems for humans. take a look at these three cows on an island of grass in a panic that had been ripped apart by that powerful earthquake. this aerial footage shows that patch of grass surrounded by deep ravines trapping those animals where they stood. good news in the fight to control wildfires burning across the southeast. crews say higher humidity is helping them fight and contain more than a dozen wildfires acro the state forest service there says while most of the rain didn't make it to the mountains, more moist air over the area should give firefighters a chance to make significant progress. firefighters say the fire danger will rise as drier weather returns and more leaves begin to fall. yesterday marked one year since the terror attacks in paris france that killed 130 people and months after the devastation france is a changed place. tourism is hurting. armed forces roam the streets,

moon from parish. a lot of us got clouded over, but before that happened we did get some fantastic photos coming in. as we take a look at the fog, still a little left over, crystal river seeing about a half mile, the rest of us doing much better. yes, yesterday morning we also were locked in, but more widespread was the fog as we had clear skies up above, one of the ingredients you need for the denser fog. didn't have that today. have a lot of clouds around. a front messy. eventually we will get into the clear air and the dry conditions and the cooler weather actually coming in already tonight. there's the front as we take it down further south, we'll continue to see improving weather from north to south throughout the day tomorrow. in fact, i still think we wake up tomorrow with a lot of clouds. it will be midday, and we won't see a lot of clouds for quite some time after that.

temps across the area, anywhere from the low 60s up to the north. this is 70s to the south, a few more breaks here, and so that will allow temperatures to climb up little bit, so we should flirt, if not touch 80 down south but staying in the low to mid-70s generally elsewhere for the remainder of the day. leaves are falling right, take a look at this. as you wake up tomorrow, despite the cloud cover, i still think we're going to get very chilly with temps dropping into the 50s, some upper 40s, up a by the way, the medium range models picking up on the coldest air mass we've had so far this season. that's for next week where we could be seeing our first temperatures in the 30s across the area. so stand by for parka weather here. mid to upper 70s for today, mostly cloudy day but not going to rain on us too much. just a 10% chance of a sprinkle, that would be it, and that would be it actually for

conditions behind the front tuesday. covering mid-70s and we'll keep those temperatures climbing up to near 80 by the end of the week. >> 9:21. back to our top story this morning breaking into the newsroom, our crew just arriving in citrus county where a car was swallowed up following a water main break. >> abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is live in beverly hills but look at what's happening out there. the pictures are incredible. what are you seeing. >> let me tell you, if you think the pictures a it's amazing. we're going to have roger pan over so you can see that hole. all of this is caused early this morning by this water main break. at this point we don't know how deep this hole actually is. again, the vehicle just pulled out of there. if you can see right in front of me, that vehicle just pulled out. the driver still here on the scene a bit too shaken up to speak with us on camera. as you can imagine he would be. thankfully he is not hurt. if you look right over to my

to pull out this water to see exactly what they're dealing with as far as this hole. now obviously whenever you see something like this in florida, the main concern a lot of folks worry about are possibly sinkholes and that's something that a lot of folks in this neighborhood were kind of concerned about initially. we have here joining me ivy gillaspie. you were saying early this morning when you saw this hole that was your first fear, sinkhole. >> exactly. >> sinkhole are so big here, and seei other sinkholes nearby it scares me. when i walk out and saw that and i said don't tell me it's a sink light and i saw the taillight. and my husband said it was a water main break and i was like oh, my god i hope the guy got out okay. his safety was my biggest thing. it's just scary to see this happen because just minutes before my son was getting ready to cross the road to his bus

prior to this driver, and then when this driver got over it, he felt the road starting to give, and he jumped out as fast as he could. >> i know truman boulevard here is a pretty busy area, and thankfully no buses or anything like that were able to get through at that time. i know this must be a pretty busy time at that time of morning as well. >> it was just around the time that the buses were about to come through. buses would have come through a matter of 10 minutes after we saw this. if the bus would have come through, it the bus routes, i contacted transportation and told them about my other son's bus and they rerouted buses for the other kids. >> thank you very much. and again, truman boulevard here shut down to traffic. again, it will definitely take some time to clean this mess up. again, the septic company here to pump all of this water up to determine exactly how deep this hole is. again, folks in this community simply thankful that no buses were coming through at the time. of course, we'll be out here throughout the morning gathering information on

>> well, dan, we know that it's improving, and it's possible he could help fill in some of the blanks deputies have at this point, because there are a lot of questions about what happened. now i'm here out on johns pass. this is very close to where paramedics found the two of them saturday afternoon. this man william blaze -- blaise gamba, excuse me, died yesterday morning. she was 37 years old and worked as an attorney what happened to her, saturday afternoon her husband made a distress call to another boater. blaise was unconscious when that boater radioed for help. spoke with the sheriff's office this morning, and still, deputies are simply calling this a diving accident. we also spoke with a colleague at the firm where blaise worked. he told us she was an unselfish and hardworking attorney.

and she was good to everyone. we wish blaise's family, you know, the best in what we know is a very difficult time, and we're obviously all hoping and praying for her husband's recovery. >> reporter: that colleague also telling us that blaise volunteered her time, worked many pro bono cases during her time practicing law in tampa for those who couldn't afford it a lawyer. we learned deputies we'll let you know. right now it was a diving accident near madeira beach that led to blaise's death. live this morning in pinellas county, james tully abc action news. 9:34, donald trump speaking out for the first time since his presidential win in an interview with cbs defending his temperament and use of social media appearing on last night's 60 minutes, the president-elect called himself a quote, very sober person, and will conduct himself quote in a

when asked about his divisive rhetoric during the campaign, he says it's sometimes necessary to get people motivated. he called twitter an effective form of communication that helped him win but that he'll be more restrained as president. trump also discussed deporting criminals who are undocumented immigrants but left the door open for other undocumented immigrants. >> probably 2 million. it could even be 3 million. we're getting them out of our country or we're going to incarcerate. after the border's secured after everything gets normalized we're going it make a determination on the people you're talking about who are terrific people, terrific people. >> one surprising moment, trump says he's fine with same-sex marriage, that it's been settled by the supreme court. protests surrounding the election continued in the bay area over the weekend, more than 500 people rallied last night in st. pete. >> people united will never be defea ed >> immigrants and members of

elect. we're waiting to find out more about a shooting investigation in tampa. this happened in the 31 block of osborne avenue last night. police say they arrested one person. they have not released their name yet. they also found a gun, they say. no one was hurt in that shooting. police are becoming more concerned about a trend here in florida involving so-called ghost guns. they're military style semiautomatic rifles that people can assemble at home. they don't have any serial numbers or markings making them untraceable. at least six companies are selling kits for them in the daytona beach area. people can legally buy them without background checks because of how the government defines firearms. toyota will pay up to $3.4 billion to pick up truck and suv owners here in the u.s. the vehicles don't have enough protection against rust and it may impact their structural integrity. the japanese automaker reaching a settlement after owners filed a lawsuit. it includes tacoma and tundra

at 9:41, back to breaking news we've been following all morning, our crew now in citrus county where cars were swallowed up following a water main break. >> abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is live in beverly hills with a driver who got out just in time. this guy certainly is lucky. >> reporter: yeah, you're right about that. you know, it's a very fluid situation. this is the car. they actually just pulled it out of that hole, about to tow it away. matt jakes is the owner of that car. he's nice us. matt, we're on live real quick. i know you're trying to handle some things. just describe for us, we've all seen those dramatic pictures, this all happened about 6:30 this morning, you're headed out to work. kind of describe what happened. >> i was on my way to work, it was still kind of dark out. i was just coming up here like i usually do. the speed limit's like 15. i think i was doing 10. there was a pickup truck in front of me and he drove right

and then all of a suomi front two tires kind of fell, and i tried to reverse, back it up, and it wasn't happening. it just started sucking my car in and started leaning. the water started coming up through the bottom so i had to get out, just pretty much just jumped out and that was about it, and then it just started sinking more and more. >> you know, we've all been looking at those pictures, you know, folks have been wanting to know about you and your, you know, safety, how you're doing. just describe for us, it had be a scary situation. >> reporter: it was kind of unbelievable for a minute, i was like is this really happening, and then whatever it was, so i'm glad i just -- you know, i jumped out when i did. my feet got a little wet or whatever. yeah, it just kind of freaked me out, and then it just kept falling, sinking more and more, and eventually went totally submerged. i'm okay, i got out. i don't know, just a hassle. i was on my way to work,

with hillsborough community college with more than 20 years serving in military intelligence, a commander in the pacific, author and survivor of a drunk driver and traumatic brain injury. in 2007 karen mertez has created an inspiration and organization helping veterans all over the tampa bay area just like herself to start over and reclaim their joy. she's brought another veteran with her this morning for the interview. thank you so much for coming in. >> thank you for having us today. >> on of you for your service to our country. >> thank you. >> we're excited to hear about the operation startup, the program. how is fulfill your destiny helping veterans with that program at hcc karen. >> yes, fulfill your destiny has pioneered a program called business builder grants and we've partnered and are awarding grants to local veterans interested in taking their businesses to the next level.

offering this grant. what can the community do to help support you with that? >> i would like to throw a nice polite challenge to the community, fulfill your destiny is awarding $5000, and i would love for the community to match that or a number of businesses in the community to match it either in whole or in part and all the money is going to operation startup and specifically those veterans that are selected through that program. >> and valerie, describe the program. give me the elevator speech. what is it? >> operation startup is an ideation and space for aspiring or early stage veteran-owned businesses. so they can come together. we can provide them with resources or connect them with resources. we can help them with continuous business model development. >> wow, it's like having your own consultant. >> it's very similar to the other collaborative work centers and ideation centers around tampa but we specifically service veterans, active duty within one year of

and their business partners. >> so this is a program you're in the process of organizing everything. when can people start applying to be part of this program? >> currently any veteran entrepreneur can come into the center and utilize our resources, but we're going to start taking applications for the official program after the first of the year. >> and give our viewers the name of the office at hcc that handles the program. >> operation startup center in ybor. >> we're out of time on tv but we're going to continue the conversation on social media. >> if you would like to learn more about these programs and fulfill your destiny please them online. also you can call them directly for all of their other programs they have in the community, the
