>> this happened around 3:30 this morning. we know the officer was traveling eastbound on kennedy boulevard when a wrong way driver entered his lane. right now we're told the driver was not hurt, but that officer is at tampa general hospital. >> according to police the officer is being treated for minor injuries. we have a crew headed to that scene. we'll check in with them as soon as they arrive. >> right now we want to get a look at your forecast. ivan standing by with a cold start today. >> frigid stuff here, we're talking temps in the 30s. we reached the freezing point in some areas. we second here. there are the temperatures, mid and upper 40s, 42 in brandon, 42 at sun city center, milder along pinellas here, 53 pinellas park and 56 in st. pete. compare that to the lower 30s right now, literally freezing in crystal river. we hit 32, may drop a couple more degrees, lower 30s as well. we're doing this without wind. no windchill out there. we don't need it.

of drew street. we do have a crew gathering more information on the scene right now from police. we'll update you as soon as we know more. also happening right now in pinellas county, detectives are trying to piece together what led to the death of a man in pinellas park. two homeless men found the body of that man behind a dumpster. ryan this is a murder investigation? >> reporter: yeah, dan it is now a murder investigation. in fact, detectives say that man died of blunt force trauma your attention. behind this mall area it was two men who found the body. they were looking for cardboard. they found the body back there behind those dumpsters. here's a picture of the victim, identified as william joe hodges. he is 38 years old. police released his name yesterday after notifying his family of his death. all cameras rolled as detectives looked for clues in this case saturday night. there's still a lot to piece together here, a lot they don't

their bigger question this morning, who killed him. this area again is right next to a mall. we're kind of behind a mall. it's tucked in there where those dumpsters are. you would think someone would see something. live in pinellas park this morning, rye yay raisch. four police shootings across the country in the last 24 hours, one in florida, three of them st. louis, kansas city and sanibel island. >> detective benjamin marconi was writing a traffic ticket when another car pulled up behind him. a man walked up to marconi shot him twice in the head. i want to show you a look at the suspect and his vehicle. police are still trying to track this person down. detective marconi was a 20-year veteran. the suspect accused of shooting a st. louis police

ambushed one of their officers while his cruiser was sitting in traffic last night. he was shot twice in the face. he's expected to survive. and late last night in sanibel, police arrested the person this say shot one of their officers during a traffic stop. officer j arred ciccone was taken to a hospital and treated and released. the gunman took off to a neighborhood, forcing police the shooting was the first time in the sanibel police department's history that an officer was shot. and in a kansas city suburb, an officer and a suspect were both shot. we're still waiting to learn more details on this latest incident. the police department did tweet that the officer is expected to survive. police are investigating what led to a shooting outside a tampa nightclub. shots rang out last night in the parking lot of the pegasus lounge on 30th street.

they've not released that person's name yet. still developing now, polk detectives are trying to figure out what caused an inmate to die. lavon was given cpr but paramedics already not able to save him -- paramedics were not able to save him. in the wake of spike in hate crimes nationwide one local group is calling for peace remembrance yesterday a group gathered in st. pete to honor the 26 trans people killed in the past year in the concerned. they also wanted to share a message of hope. >> we're all just people, you know. we are all different orientations, all different religions, all different colors like everybody else, if more people in this country can understand that, we will see the hate crimes decrease. >> many of the transgender communities say they continue to live in fear and are

encourage everyone to get educated about the lgbtq community and the challenges they face. a family is shocked to learn a teacher's aide is under investigation for possibly abusing their autistic son. 5-year-old damian, the school district contacted his parents about this potential abuse. his mother says they were told the aide covered damian's mouth to keep him from screaming and then hit him, also might have used his own hand to hit him. room. that isn't enough for damian's parents. >> i would like criminal charges. she shouldn't be working in a school with children. i think it takes patience to be any kind of teacher but it takes a lot of patience to be around children with special needs and she doesn't have it. she failed. >> the broward county school district is still investigating the aide. the sheriff's office says there have been other incidents involves other students. there are plenty of

he's promising more cabinet picks to be announced very soon. he held a second round of marathon meetings on sunday at his estate in new jersey. new jersey governor chris christie was there. trump called christie a talented man. christie was an early backer of trump but was recently demoted as head of his transition team. he also met with rudy giuliani who is still being considered for secretary of state and ore things. vice president-elect mike strong contender for secretary of state. during donald trump's presidential campaign he said he would tear up the transpacific partnership trade deal. president obama strongly expressing his support of that partnership in front of foreign leaders. he made the comment during a news conference at the closing of the economic summit in peru. >> what i can guarantee is that

of these issues. >> president obama's trip to peru is his final foreign, official foreign trip before donald trump takes office. new this morning, another tense standoff happening overnight between police and protestors at the dakota access pipeline site. a sheriff spokeswoman says about 400 protestors were involved in what she's calling a riot. at least one person is under arrest, and officers used a water canon and tear gas on the crowd. you can see police ar crossing a bridge in the area. it's where protestors have been trying to stop construction of the pipeline for months now. they say this project will help the environment and destroy -- hurt the environment and destroy native american sites. the newest way to get from st. pete to tampa is preparing for next week official launch. you can try out the cross bay ferry for free. it departs at 7 in the morning

cheerleaders celebrating their win as the snow came down with some snow angels. >> that looks painful though. >> this is the first time we've seen 40s in tampa this season right? >> it is the coldest we've had so far. still with this big area of low pressure they're dropping the snow, and now what they're talking about, there's lake effect show, right, and that's what you referred to as how many inches. 10, 20, i mean this thing can go a while, and the lows not moving tha northeast, you're going to find some issues there. another storm is brewing out west. clear air for us, and calm winds and that has set the stage for a frigid morning. take a look at these numbers there. low, mid-40s, upper 40s, milder in pinellas county. heading up to the north, this is our first freeze as far as our temperatures, right? the first 32. crystal river has hit that this morning and has been there a couple of hours.

it. very cold but unlike the northeast we warm up nicely in florida through the afternoon. yesterday we hit 70. we'll be close to that if not hitting it right at the airport. notice this is our futurecast. by tuesday into wednesday you see some green there, don't worry about any rainfall. just an indication of a pull from the atlantic, and that will bring us partly cloudy skies, but more importantly it will moderate this air mass so by tuesday tomorrow we're in th by thanksgiving. for today we're still stuck in the upper 60s to low 70s. it's going to feel comfortable to where we are this morning. and then one more, one more chilly night tonight. wake up tomorrow morning with readings into the lower 40s, lower 50s in pinellas, and then we'll begin that big warmup. 69 for boaters out there, 10 knots, 2 to 4-foot seas. moderate hot an improvement from where we were yesterday. want to check in on our travel

thanks. 5:17. a consumer alert this morning, toys"r"us is pulling ride on tonka trucks off its shelves after one of them burst into flames on a family's ride home. grandparents say they just bought the tonka 12-volt ride on dump truck as a gift. not only did the toy catch fire, so did their pickup truck on the interstate. luckily no one got hurt. there's not an official recall but the store pulled the truck from their shelves and website while the facebook's ceo mark zuckerberg has announced plans to stop fake news from circulating on the social media platform. he listed projects that are underway to stop the spread of misinformation. they include making it easier for users to report false news. third-party verification cracking down on ads with misinformation. the spread of fake news

how's the officer doing? >> reporter: well, deiah at this point, we understand that officer is -- [ technical difficulties ] we're told the air bags on both -- i want to walk you through what happened. the officer was traveling eastbound down kennedy boulevard when that wrong officer's path of travel. hyde park here is a one-way street. that's when those two vehicles did collide. now at this point this investigation is ongoing. we're trying to determine if alcohol may have possibly been involved in this case, and what potential charges, if any, that driver could possibly be facing. obviously this is an issue that we deal with a lot here in this area with these wrong way drivers, and this is a clearly
