this monday morning at 6, tampa police are investigating a crash involving a police officer and a wrong way driver. >> our crew just arrived on the scene in the past hour. i want to show you all new video from the scene want so far we know the officer was traveling eastbound on kennedy boulevard when a wrong way driver entered his lane from northbound high park avenue. this happened around 3:30 this morning. the driver was not hurt, but hospital. the officer is being treated for minor injuries. we'll go live coming up at 6:45. ivan cabrera is in this morning, we're feeling the coldest temps so far this season. >> they're colder than 5, and we're going to continue to do that through sunrise. temperatures in the low 40s, tampa at 43. the airports now coldest we've

he is 38 years old. all investigators saying right now is he died of blunt force trauma. police released his name yesterday after notifying his family of his death. all cameras rolled as detectives looked for clues saturday night. there's a lot to piece together. a lot they don't know about how hodges died and who killed him. this is kind of tucked away. i'll give you a frame of reference. the shopping plaza over there. there's an alley on still some people are traveling around here. it'd be hard to believe someone not seeing something when this occurred. live in pinellas park, ryan raich enews news. four police shoots across the country in the last 24 hours. one of them in florida. three of them happening overnight, in st. louis, kansas city and sanibel island. police have released a picture

shooting outside police headquarters. local media is reporting u.s. marshals do have someone in custody. officer biennia min benjamin marconi, another car pulled up next to him and shot him in the head. a st. louis sergeant is in critical condition after being shot twice in an ambush style attack. he was sitting in traffic when a driver pulled up next to him and shot the sergeant in for help and responding officers shot and killed that suspect. police say he was a murder suspect and was also wanted for robberies and a carjacking. back here in florida, a shootout lands a sanibel police officer in the hospital. it started when a man shot an officer during a traffic stop in sanibel last night. the suspect took off into a neighborhood putting that neighborhood on lockdown. the man started a gunfight with officers. when they found him they ended up arresting him.

this is the first time in the sanibel police department's history that an officer was shot. and police officers and a suspect have been shot near kansas city missouri. the shooting happened around 10:30 sunday night. the officer involved is with the gladstone police department, a suburb of kansas city. the kansas city fraternal order of police said the officer is expected to survive. 5 minutes after 6 now. tampa police are investigating what led to a shooting outside a nightclub. shots the parking lot of the pegasus lounge on 30th street. the victim has minor injuries. they did arrest a suspect but have not released the name. during a spike in hate crimes across the country, one group is calling for peace and understanding. to mark national transgender remembrance day a group gathered in st. pete. they wanted to honor the 26 trans people who have been killed in the past year. many continue to live in fear. they say they're frequently the

stopped them by forming a line and using water canons. a nearby indian reservation says the pipeline could contaminate their drinking water and destroy historic sites. the 1200-mile long pipeline is being built to carry oil from north dakota to illinois. take a look at this image, it captures the moment a coast guard helicopter comes to the rescue after their boat started taking on water. that 72-foot boat hit a killing the motor. it was sinking quickly 5 miles from shore with 5 men and one woman on board. they've got cuts and are suffering from disorientation. toys"r"us is pulling tonka ride on dump trucks after one of them burst into flames on the family's ride home. grandparents in washington state say they just bought that tonka 12-volt ride on dump truck as a gift. not only did it catch on fire

luckily no one got hurt. there is not an official recall of this, but the store pulled the toy off the shelves and from their website while the incident is investigated. facebook's ceo mark zuckerberg has announced plans to stop fake news from circulating on the social media platform. they include making it easier for users to report false news, third-party verification, and misinformation. the spread of fake news about the presidential election escalated the conversation about misinformation on facebook. the season's first major snowstorm making it feel more like the holidays for people all over the country. unfortunately it hit just in time to create problems for the thanksgiving travel. meteorologist ivan cabrera joins us now with a look at the trouble it's causing. >> terrible stuff there for our good friends in the midwest, not just feeling it but look at this. two cars on fire. no one hurt here but these are

a disaster there. now, in ohio what we had was snow piling up and icy roads caused a chain reaction. we had upwards of 40 cars involved in a ridiculous accident that involved a lot of folks there. the first car had a fender bender and everyone kind of piled in. syracuse is dealing with some very heavy snowfall as a result of the heavy lake effe we dropped 40 degrees in some areas here. we went from sunny skies, we skipped fall and went right to winter here, and it is still snowing and coming down pretty god. folks there, officials telling folks to stay off the roads, but as you can see there the pickups and pokes out -- folks out there get from a to b. 72 degrees, so we went from that to the scenes you've been seeing there, just incredible

through tarpon springs. we have complete roadblock u.s. 19 southbound right at tarpon avenue, also some roadblocks northbound. we're hearing cars are using a parking lot to get around this crash. you definitely, if you can, avoid u.s. 19. you can always take alt 19 or east lake depending on where you're coming from and where you're going. the interstates, however looking great. take a look at this, i-275 right at ashley up to speed, 5 minutes down to the howard franklin. back to you. 6:31, staying on breaking news this morning, tampa police officers is injured after his cruiser was hit by a wrong way driver. >> the whole thing happened east of kennedy and hyde park avenue. abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is on the scene right now. rodney, any word on how the officer's doing. >> deiah, we understand that officer is recovering this morning. he was rushed to tampa general hospital with minor injuries we understand. the driver who was headed the wrong way, that driver was not

vehicles did deploy. all of this happened right at the intersection right behind me. if we can, let's toss to a bit of video from overnight. that officer was traveling eastbound on kennedy headed into downtown when that wrong way driver entered his path on south hyde park avenue. that's when those two vehicles collided. hyde park is a one way street. investigators have not revealed if alcohol may have played a factor at all in this crash, and also what, if any charges that driver could possibly face. back out here live this morning, this one-way street here at south hyde park avenue is clearly marked so investigators will be piecing together exactly what made that driver travel this way. [ technical difficulties ] >> we apologize for the audio problems right there. meanwhile, we're waiting to learn if charges are going to be filed in a north port shooting that injured a child. police say two kids were firing

in the head. and still developing right now, polk county defers are trying to figure out what -- detectives are trying to find out what caused this inmate's death. officials say there are no obvious signs of a struggle. happening now, rescuers in northern india are still looking for survivors after a train derailment killed at least 133 people. that at the time toll has been steadily rising could go even higher. you can see here just how bad the devastation is from that crash. we know at least 200 other passengers were hurt, several of those reportedly have life- threatening injuries. investigators trying to figure out what caused the crash. the pump on a boat near jacksonville is being blamed for an explosion that sent two people to the hospital and caused thousands of dollars in damage. two men were working on that boat on the st. john's river outside jacksonville saturday

the electricity to repair a fuel leak, but one of the men thinks the pump kicked on sparking a fire that, god them to jump from the -- that forced them to jump from the body. they suffered severe burns. the flames spread to other vessels as well. new information about a deadly plane crash in nevada. the faa says the pilot likely saved the lives of people on the ground. he crashed the medical transport plane into a parking lot. that plane could nearby apartment complex. they were headed to a hospital in utah friday night. it crashed moments after taking off. investigators believe there was a mechanical failure. families of passengers on board missing malaysia flight 370 will hunt for debris on madagascar next month. they hope find clues about what happened to the missing plane. so far investigators have found six pieces of wreckage that have definitely or almost

off africa's east coast. there has been no organized search there. a search in the indian ocean has turned up nothing so far. investigators need to find the plane's data recorders to help slain what -- explain what went wrong. the plane vanished in march of 2014 with 239 people aboard. a woman is trying to raise money for century before the dangerous bacteria in her ear begins so spread. she's keeping it in check with antibiotics. her doctor thinks she contracted this bacteria while swimming in martin county. there were no warning signs in the area when she caught the bacteria. she's already tried multiple medications to kill the bacteria. right now she's on her last one. >> if it becomes resistant to that, there's nothing else to do. that's it, and then eventually it will go into my bloodstream. >> she's trying to raise money to help pay for her surgery to remove the infected bone.
