abc action news starts right now with breaking news. >> and we begin with that breaking news out of citrus county now at 9:00. detectives investigating a suspicious death on west sun ripe loop in crystal river. deputies say they found a bo in flames after receiving a call about a brush fire around 3:30 this morning. we do have a crew on the way, reporter isabel rosales will have a live update coming up at 9:30. good morning and thanks for joining us, i'm dan shaffer. >> and i'm ashley yore in for deiah this morning. we're following breaking news out of odessa. >> tragedy at a mobile home park there where we've just learned moments ago that one person has died in an early morning house fire. abc action news reporter erik

>> reporter: yeah, we just got that confirmation from the hillsborough county fire rescue department that one man inside that mobile home did die in this fire. let's take a look there, you can see the damage, just devastation to that mobile home there, and neighbors tell me that the woman who lived in that home came running across the street pounding on the door saying her house was on fire and her husband was still inside. there, just total devastation. now, this is video shot by a neighbor as the fire roared here at the silver dollar golf community in odessa. hillsborough fire rescue worked to put the fire out and saved the neighboring units. the woman who lived there was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. we were just told moments ago that she is improving. her husband is a retired new york cop who was disabled and authorities did just confirm that someone in that house, we

that fire. >> it just burned up really fast. i mean it burnt quick. it was really brutal, really fast, really hot, and, you know, hard to watch. >> reporter: this was hard to watch for so many people in this community. it's actually the second mobile home to burn down in recent weeks. no one was inside, the other home, lived in there seriously injured, but we are told improving and we did just get confirmation that one person did die inside that mobile home. live in odessa erik waxler abc action news. thanks erik. now to breaking news out of pasco county, we just learned the man killed in a deadly motorcycle collision is a popular musician in the area. this is rob cartwright. hundreds of people already

cartwright was the fiddle player in that band. cartwright was riding his motorcycle down u.s. 19 in hudson when an suv apparently turned in front of him at each boulevard. he slammed into the side of it and was killed. we're still waiting to learn if the other driver will face criminal charges for the crash. new at 9, a local teacher is arrested and charged with molestation. this is amit santiago's mug shot. deputies arrested him last middle school and he's been charged with lewd and lascivious molestation. we'll update you when we hear back from the school district. new at 9, pope francis appointing a new leader for bay area catholics. bishop gregory parks will replace robert lynch who's retiring after 20 years serving the tampa bay catholic community. parks comes from the diocese of pensacola and tallahassee where

show it to my wife. that's how i save at publix. how 'bout you? publix. where shopping is a pleasure. just about 9:14 now. a man accused of going on a violent rampage in baton rouge is now dead after a shootout with police. he shot and killed a woman, ran over two bystanders, then crashed into an ambulance. thch old man fired at deputies late last night when they demanded he show his hands. deputies shot him. he ran, they captured him, and he died on the way to the hospital. officers say this all started when that man shot a woman and threw her out of a car. then he shot another person and ran over those bystanders including a teen training in emergency medical care.

lives as gunshots ring out in new orleans' french quarter. ten people were shot early yesterday, and right now police are searching for the suspected shooters. police say one man was killed in the violence. we're told none of the victims were the intended target when two men began arguing and shooting. the suspects are believed to be from out of town. five of those victims were released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. at that time another four were still recovering. nine people have been arrested this morning in connection with a deadly acde plant. china's state news agency says the chairman and chief engineer of the power station were among those arrested. the arrests were announced a day after china's top leaders ordered a nationwide review of safety standards at industrial sites. a platform at the plant suddenly collapsed last week killing 74 people. jury selection is once again getting underway in south carolina in the charleston church shooting trial. 22-year-old dylann roof is

just bringing at times blizzard conditions to the midwest. it's the tail end of this front that will continue pushing to the south and east. it will do so very slowly. it's going to lose some steam and stall out to our north and west, and that's going to be key to our temperatures and our humidity. both will be on the increase with the southeasterly flow ahead of that front. that means for you and me, it is going to start feeling sticky out there with temps in the mid-80s by tomorrow and the dew point's going up. it's going to feel like early southeast flow. there's the front. it stalls out and has to wait for a new low to form, and then it will truck it through here, thursday not with severe weather or heavy rain if you're looking for any significant appreciable rainfall for your lawns, just some light showers. the sprinkles are what you'll have to deal with here. for today with this moisture coming in out of the southeast, look at the clouds beginning to bubble up through the afternoon, a couple of showers, 10 to 20% coverage especially

scene meaning we have very limited details at this time, but what we do know is that a concerned neighbor around here called 9-1-1 for what they thought was a brush fire, but when first responders arrived and said they found a car fully engulfed in flames inside a body, now you can see that they've blocked off the area. there is a forensics unit there. deputies, investigators coming in and out in the few minutes we've been here. now deep in that wooded area is where that car is located. some of smoldering around there. again, very limited details at this time. we are waiting to learn more about who precisely this person was, their identity, and what led to their death. as soon as we get any updates we'll make sure to let you know on social media and on abcactionnews.com. live in citrus county, i'm isabel rosales abc action news. police have arrested a 27- year-old man in connection with a body found in pinellas county

now behind bars. police believe he is connected to the murder of will hodges. police found hodges body a week ago. investigatorsfound watkins fingerprints at the crime scene and he is charged now with second degree murder. developing this morning, police are searching for a man who shot and killed a security guard in illinois. loved ones are now mourning that guard's 38-year-old tyrone harden. he worked if the canadian national railroad. investigators say he was trying to stop a carjacker who woman's car saturday night. harden spotted the suspect in a different stolen car. police say that's when the man shot at him more than a dozen times. the shooter stole the officer's vehicle but then abandoned it. his family is pleading for the killer to please come forward. >> he was working. he did not deserve this at all. this senselessness that's going

welcome back, 9:42. outrage in texas after a symbol of combat injury, courage and bravery is found discarded in a dumpster, and now an army veteran is on the hunt to find who this purple heart belongs to. gary kennedy received a call about the purple heart and other medals that were found, and now kennedy's trying to figure out who jim c. carter is. we know he's a world war ii veteran who served in the army.

those medals. >> you only receive one purple heart for each time you were shot. if you did get shot that means you were in harm's way and you were shot by the enemy. >> it's unclear who discarded the medals or why. kennedy has reached out to several organizations and families to track down the owners. hundreds of people protesting in western massachusetts after hampshire college took down the american flag after the election. the school's decision came after they say students burned an american donald trump's presidential election win. veterans and several others waved american flags and held peaceful protests yesterday. many veterans disappointed and saddened by the school's decision. >> they took down my flag. they have a right to do that. i'm here to defend their right to do that, however, i want them to understand how seriously that hurts me.

reed, hanscom air force base. i came home and there's no way i'll let anybody take down the flag. >> the city's mayor stood with those veterans. the college's president did not attend the demonstrations. take a look at this video getting a lot of attention nationwide right now. shoppers at a crowded northern california mall start throwing punches ending in an all-out brawl. the video shows six men on the night of thanksgiving. you can see them kicking and hitting and punching each other. no one called 9-1-1 during the fight. there were no reports of any injuries. the mall spokesperson says the mall security quickly broke up that fight. it's not clear exactly what caused it. more people opened their wallets this black friday than last year, but on average they spent less. according to a national retail federation survey, more than 154 million consumers shopped in stores and online. that's about 3 million more than last year, but the nrf

about the hudsons. this year with the angel tree it's a perfect time to hopefully be able to give kids their perfect christmas this year. >> this is not the first year. you all have so many great stories of customers that come in and employees. what's the general mood as soon as people see the paper angels go up on the tree. >> the employees love it. they get excited about hopefully being able to get all the angels taken. we never like the idea of thinking one of the angels are left the last couple of years we've had it farther in the back and they've not been quite as recognizable. we put it right front and center this year so hopefully all the angels will go. >> you'll been looking at the angels on the tree, and what are some of the things you've noticed as you read through the names and stuff. >> there's the stuff that they want and the stuff that they need. and whenever you look at the stuff that they need it really

you are than them. >> yes. this year part of the strategy of putting the angel tree right at the front is the fact we have less time to help these kids, december 9th is the time, so what are you asking folks to do when they come out to the stores? >> well, come out as soon as possible because like she said, we are on a much shorter time frame this year, so by december 9th for most of the stores we need as many people to come in as possible and grab an angel or even more and invite your friends in to of them taken as possible. >> thank you. and we're making it as easy for you as possible, so we've got all of the stores listed on our website here in pinellas county we've got this beautiful store, pinellas park participating in angel tree, also the clear water store. in hillsborough county, the north tampa location and brandon location of hudson's furniture is participating in angel tree. in polk county they have the
