>> reporter: in the last 35 minutes we wrapped up a press conference. we found out the man who barricaded himself for nearly half a day has been identified as michael thomas taylor. 10:30 am he surrendered to police and neighbors captured moments on video camera as he came out with his hands up. that happened after hours of negotiations when george taylor founder of national veterans homeless support was just called and successfully talked taylor out of his condo. he says he was relieved this was resolved easily and shed light on what happened. >> it's ptsd. they can lay dormant but when you have marital problems it compounds other symptoms. >> reporter: this started around 11:00 last night and we

was gunfire back and forth between taylor and melbourne police who at this time police said they cannot say much about the number or types of weapons that taylor was armed with but we know this started last night with a domestic disturbance call to police. police say after 1 am taylor started firing and a short time later officers fired back. take a listen to what they told us. >> anytime we are dealing with someone that is armed with a firearm and the intent is to hurt one of us, regardless of training in the past it is a concern. about charges. they were not specifically told me taylor could be facing murder. they say he was not seriously injured in this nor were any police officers. relieved to law enforcement but the investigation is ongoing. we will follow developments bringing you the latest on

live in brevard county, janai norman, channel 9 eyewitness news. we are following breaking news in orange county when deputies have a busy intersection blocked while they investigate a suspicious device. intersection of conway road is blocked now. investigators say a box was found with what they believe is a grenade inside found in a nearby neighborhood. no word if homes or businesses have been evacuated we have a crew on the way and we will bring you updates. we know more this afternoon about plans to build a ucf campus in downtown orlando. any to total of $60 million to build the campus. the school trustees were briefed on a timeline of the project this morning. channel 9's julie salomone following developments. ucf says it will not pitch the project to the state board of governors this month. >> reporter: the campus will be built on the property behind me and this is the paperwork that the board of trustees approved today. before they make the pitch to

police said at that point that is when the men ran into the woods. that's what they thought but now they say they do not know. >> 12 hours after 3 armed suspects vanished, brevard county deputies are still looking for clues. we watched half an hour ago as they searched the field at the end of pineda causeway. the same field where the 3 suspects disappeared. deputies say melbourne police chased the man through brevard county and down the causeway before 1 am -- 1 am. after they kicked in the door of an apartment, stole a man keys and car. they fled from the scene of the break-in and from police deputy said. leading offices on a high-speed chase through brevard county, reportedly tapping speed of 130 miles an hour. the suspects ditched the car at the end of the causeway and bailed into the woods. that is where deputies took over -- brevard county deputies. to the cars set up a perimeter around the woods. they brought out k-9 officers and a helicopter.
