channel 9 eyewitness news continues right now at 5:30. >> an airport worker told us that this is not water but jet fuel. all new at 5:00, the reason workers told us not enough is being done to keep this the spills from happening. and channel 9's shan butler saw a spill today. >> why this is so common and why more isn't being done to prevent it. >>reporter: jet fuel is the single greatest fire hazard at an airport, according to a study at the pittsburgh airport as they tried to minimize the risks there. that's why the airport employee sent us this picture of what he says is jet fuel spewing from one what is called a few pit. you can see here, it's next to an american airlines plane. the employee tells us that the picture was take about a few days ago at gate 31.

the background, ran over a few lyle while the plane was being -- fuel line while the plane was being gassed up. they want to know why a jet fuel is so close to the plane. here's what we learned about the issue. the employees tell us that they use cones like these to mark exactly where those fuel pits are. but they say when you're up high in a truck, or o even worse, an airplane, these cones down here, are very hard to see. there are much better options like skaflding or flags that would make things clearer. you can see that the fire department standing by, just in case. no fire here, but on the fire department's own website, you can see how quickly fires can happen. sources at the airport say fuel spills are common. but the airport won't say why they're so common or how they

seats, but it's how the congressional districts are mapped that florida democratic congressman allen grayson needs to change. he's proposing an amendment to the constitution banning gerrymandering. one political party or politician, over others. >> unfair, not just to the individual district, involved, not just to the constituents, but it's unfair to america, and the principle of democracy. >>reporter: this doesn't look much like any normal map, bit it is a map of coreen brown's district. the florida supreme court says is unconstitutional because of gerrymandering, an issue that crosses idealogical and party demands. the judicial watch has filed federal lawsuits to fight gerrymandering. >> both democrats and republican s are attempted to abuse the powers entrusted in them. >>reporter: the only way to stop the practice is by amending the u.s. constitution. >> it's not fair to anybody

surveillance video that they hope will lead them to a vandal businesses. this skate shop had its windows shattered over the weekend. the owner told channel 9's roy ramos, it's expense i to replace them, and roy, police say that clue. >>reporter: investigators say it is the one clue they hope will help them find whoever damaged all of these businesses. take a look right here, on one section of colonial drive, and one, two, three, businesses were damaged here, right across the street. in this surveillance video from plus skate shop, you can see a white car drive right past the business, but watch. as if the same time the front window shatters. >> it's not intended to catch stuff from the road and you it did, you can see the car that goes by.

owners to have the windows shot out. to vacant buildings, mattress stores and skate shops. according to orlando police, over a dozen businesses were vandalized in downtown over the weekend, which has proven to be a big financial hit for owners. >> we saw skate boards, not too much money in that, so a window is a big setback. >> not only will it set the businesses back, whatever the extense of the repairs are, but i don't think we did any business on saturday, we were closed all day, the biggest day of the week. >>reporter: business owners estimated the cost of the repairs in the thousands, but with the latest clue to catching the vandals, they are hoping that the cost of the repairs will come out of those pockets that are responsible. >> what's the point, take your energy and put it to something positive. >>reporter: and i reached out to the orlando police to see if they are reviewing any other surveillance video, we're still waiting to hear back from them.

this guy, 28-year-old eric provos used that atm, investigators believe he realized it was open, then returned later with a hoodie covering his face, and stole all of the cash. >> trying to be sneaky, you know, he probably was wondering, how keen is the human eye behind the scene, watching him. >> deputies haven't said how much cash, if any, they have recovered. they are investigating and looking to see who may have driven that suspect back to the bank to get the money. in less than two weeks, women in central florida will have more healthcare option s. today, we got a look inside of florida hospital for women new 12 story facility. the building is nearing 400,000 square feet, and will offer a vast array of services, including a milk depot, mothers can donate breast milk and a clinic for women battling post part m depression.
