tt2w!tw((i% amq"`j,ut announcer: this is channel 9 eyewitness at 11, coverage you can count on. we begin tonight with our eyes on the temperatures. they're falling rapidly, folks. it's 20 degrees colder than it was earlier today. certified meteorologist george waldenberger and i were having this conversation already locations dropping into the 40s and jorge it's going to be even colder when everyone gets up tomorrow morning. >> probably dropping another 10 degrees by morning. look at the 40s in daytona beach, in deland, and ocala, palm coast, in the mid-and-upper 40s. sanford, and clermont, 51, kissimmee at 54 degrees.

the winds are dies off but they're still out of the -- dying off, but they're out of the northwest. hour-by-hour, 2 a.m., low 40s in ocala, and even some upper 30s in ocala by 4:00. coming up, which locations will be dropping into the 30s, jorge. >> and while we're feeling the cooler temperatures, people around sarasota are surveying the damage after two tornados struck at dawn. so far, the damages estimated in the millions. we'll hear from residents a little bit later in the newscast. and before storms hit, central florida emergency managers asked you to keep informed. right? we told you about the potentially dangerous conditions and how you should download the weather app and weather radios. we learned there was a problem with the sent roy ramos to look for other ways to stay informed. >> reporter: sarasota and

of the storms that swept through the state overnight with tornado touchdowns that proved to be deadly. here in central florida we felt thunderstorms, lightning strikes and more than an inch of rain that fell in orlando and sanford just after midnight. it was three hours later that national weather service issued a statement that read, orlando noah weather radio is temporarily off the air. this is the transmitter off john young parkway and lee road that is offline. officials with the national weather service said they are working to get it back up and running, but residents from six different counties will be unable to get warnings and alerts from their weather radios. >> the radios will send out the warnings, so with the transmitter off air for the orlando area, a lot of those people weren't able to get these warnings on their weather radio. >> reporter: we reached out to the national weather service, and our meteorologist, george waldenberger could prove to be a

seminole, polk, and osceola counties if more storms are coming our way. >> we're waiting for the next storm system friday. the national weather service said they want it up as soon as possible. >> there are alternatives they said. >> this would be one, another one week the wftv weather, app, and another would be your tv. >> roy ramos, channel 9 eyewitness. >> the national weather service says the best option for now is to try and tap into other transmitters but the transmission may be a little bit fuzzy or download the wftv weather app. we'll be staying on top of the dropping temperatures for the rest of the night for you. a fruit packing plant in lake countie is being declared a total loss -- county is being declared a total loss. you're seeing smoke and fire rising from this lake citrus packing out on center street in leesburg. nobody got hurt, good thing. county and city firefighters spent the night putting out the

they were able to keep the flames from reaching fuel tanks. airport officials are warning passengers about packing guns inside luggage after a pen gun was found inside a carry on. tsa officials found a 22-caliber gun that resembles a pen gun about the size of a $20 bill. you can bring guns in checked bags. there's no word if anyone was arrested. a man prosecutors say is a danger to your family remains in jail tonight in orange county. at 6:00 we told you how the state believes he was involved in multiple shootings since new year's eve. ty russell got his hands on documents and prosecutors want him to stay in jail even though he hasn't been charged. >> reporter: and jorge, tonight, prosecutors have been given more time to help prove their case why they believe jay brown is

>> mr. brown was shot at himself. i don't know that establishes any need for pretrial detention. >> reporter: the attorney for jay brown argued his client should get bail. >> we searched court records and obtained a motion filed by prosecutors last year stating brown has been involved in several shootings and neighborhoods filled with families since new year's eve. records show he pulled the trigger in some incidents. in others, bullets went flying his way, but he's not been charged with firing a weapon. >> it's my understanding that state has to show beyond a reasonable doubt that pretrial detention's necessary. >> a judge gave prosecutors until tuesday to prove their case to call witnesses. deputies say brown was arrested after a shooting off orange blossom trail and americana. a delivery driver was hit. >> he's going to be probably crippled or something. >> reporter: prosecutors say brown was spotted running from the scene with the gun and the

with several others makes brown a danger to the community. >> reporter: brown is facing felony because of possession of a gun scheduled to be in court tuesday. tonight we're working on answers from the state on whether more jorge? democrats in central florida have just finished watching presidential candidates face off in their fourth debate. hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley addressed topics including employment, climate change, and gun control and international policy. the issue of gun control was particularly relevant with the debate in south carolina, just blocks away really from the church where nine parishioners were murdered. the democratic race for the white house is tightening. front runners clinton and sanders moved away from the relatively similar exchanges that define previous face offs. >> i understand that this is the hardest job in the world. i'm prepared and ready to take it on.

political revolution to not elect a president, but to transform this country. >> voting for the primaries starts in just two weeks for the iowa caucuses. donald trump, and senator ted cruz are in a war of words themselves. cruz's latest ad takes a shot by bringing his past interview by trump claiming to be pro-choice. trump fired back claiming cruz is a hypocrite for not reporting bank loans. >> he's a nasty guy, nobody likes him. nobody in congress likes him. nobody likes him anywhere. >> voters will finally get their chance to make their first picks for president in about two weeks at the iowa caucus. one of the top prosecutors in orlando would like judges to put a hold on death penalty cases for the time being now that u.s. supreme court has ruled that florida's sentencing procedure is flawed. state attorney jeff ashton wants to see cases pushed back at least until the end of the legislative session on march 11th.

help to find two people who were in a car with a third person, driver, who almost hit a police officer. police say 17-year-old trevim laymans, accelerated towards an officer, and the officer opened fire who crashed into a house on stony brook lane. the other two people took out. the officer is on routine paid leave and the suspect is in the hospital. osceola county detectives are looking for a couple armed robbers who struck a liquor store last night. you can see two guys right here, one with a hat and the guy in front trying to cover their faces. deputies say these two went into the a&m beverage discount store on clay street? kissimmee with guns demanding cash. they got away with an unknown amount of money. nobody got hurt. this week a local lawmaker's expected to discuss her plan to hold law enforcement agencies

. developing tonight, clean up is underway in southwest florida after deadly tornadoes killed two and injured seven. george waldenberger has been following this story, jorge, the national weather service confirmed these upper ef 2 tornados? >> yes, normally rare, expect during el nio. these ripped through sarasota just before dawn with 132-mile per hour wind gusts tearing through homes, buildings, and countless trees leaving behind this, destruction. steven and kelly wilson were asleep in their mobile home when that deadly tornadoes struck. >> actually removed the mobile home from its concrete block foundation and rolled in the direction toward the street.

his wife, passing away from a heart attack a short time after. their son managed to crawl from the wreckage, helping his four children to safety. >> woke up this morning and lost a family friend, a neighbor. >> these deaths in duette, florida, the only ones attributed to the three deadly tornados as line of deadly winds pushed through the state. >> we have reports of two people trapped upstairs in a home. >> in fiesta a key, a home trapping victims on this asked. >> i'll take hurricanes all day long. this was bad. >> residents who survived the night were out surveying the the cost, estimated in the millions. >> this is the worst storm that i've ever been in, in 43 years. all. >> governor rick scott toured

hundreds of people were without power across central florida as the el nio storm system trekked through. and we were talking about that earlier, we really did dodge a bullet. >> southwest florida took the brunt of the storm. we're lucky. and this morning, all six meteorologists were in tracking that severe thunderstorm that you just showed video of in brevard county. okay. now we're cooling off behind the storm system. we're 71 today, and it's 52 now, that's almost a 20 degrees drop, and by the way, that's the blinking light on the top of the sun trust building downtown. look at the 40s, mid-40s in ocala right now. it's 46 in deland, towards deleon springs, 51 in sanford, and 52 in orlando. there goes the storm system. three inches of rain in spots with that. that's gone. it's very common for storm systems to draw in very cold air behind them and that's what we saw today. it was gusty. tomorrow won't be windy, but we'll still have a north breeze and that'll draw cold air in for

so the next three days are going to be winter-like. if you like cold air, good news. by morning, the coldest air in ocala and marion county, upper 30s. more mild into melbourne county, and into orlando downtown, towards ivanhoe, and leesburg , some of these places may dip into the 30s by tomorrow morning. not quite so cold, but poinciana, 42 degrees, and holopaw around 44, then hour-by-hour, check it out. we spend most of the day in the 50s. we'll likely crack the 60 degrees mark right around here, 4:00 in the afternoon. 4:00 or 5:00 and then we get even colder tomorrow night into early tuesday morning. this is tomorrow night into tuesday morning.

call police if you know anything about where he could be. the florida mall should be open tomorrow after part of the building was evacuated because of a gas leak. it started at one of the docking areas before noon. they evacuated until the leak stopped. no word on what caused the leak. the coast guard has no plans to call off the search for 12 missing marines following a of hawaii. rescue crews have been searching around the clock since two u.s. marine choppers crashed last thursday. investigators still aren't sure what caused the helicopters to go down. >> i you, too, want to emphasize that our thoughts and prayers are with the entire marine corps, and especially with the families and the loved ones of the missing service members. >> an aircraft searching for survivors was hit with a laser yesterday. luckily, it was able to change direction without any problems.

embassy in iraq says several american are nowhere to be found. american officials say they're working with iraqi authorities to find the people who are missing. covering volusia county, sunday night, drivers in port orange can expect lane closures tomorrow. crews will shut down south williamson boulevard from taylor road south to the spruce creek bridge in order to replace poles. the work starts tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. until 6 a.m. so overnight work >> a fire station in volusia county has a fresh new exterior tonight, debris has been cleared now from this daytona beach station number 3, after a vehicle crashed into it yesterday. that driver was taken to the hospital. there were not any structure damage to the station and look at this, you can see members already working at the fire union helping to restore the building and replacing plants this morning.
