active and on going investigation, when i contacted the city manager's office, is was told there is a heightened sense of security. the city of titusville is still adding up the losses but believes thousands of dollars were stolen in what it's calling a sophisticated wire fraud scheme, carried out by e-mail. the city believes that several attempts were made, with one of them being successful. the city isn't saying much more about the ongoing investigation, but residents are. >> i hope they catch the people, and then they better reprogram these people inside, figure out wlas going on. >>reporter: in a written statement from the city manager's office, we were told the city is investigating this theft with our bank, state and federal l authorities. as well as reviewing administrative procedures to prevent future a occurrences. >> it's not something that you hear about hitting about a city. lots and lots of things

>> you're paying for your child to be safe, you're coming here, dropping your child off, hoping she'll have a good day. >> as bad as the video looks, police say the boy is fine. reid told the investigators it was rough play, but she was already on probation for fraud and grand theft cases, and remains locked up tonight without bond for violating her probation. new at 6:00, tonight, we're asking the police in maitland if they believe a local middle school has a gang problem. two mothers reached out to us with those concerns, after they say their sons were attacked at maitland middle school on friday. and today, we learned threats there prompted increased security measures today. channel 9's carla rey is there now. incidents on friday, there was threats on social media. >>reporter: maitland police told us tonight that those threats were regarding rumors of a possible school shooting. they determined that there was

those problems may be related to a group of students here, maitland police told me they're still trying to figure out who those students are. >> we spotted police cars parked prominently in front of maitland middle school today and a message from the school's principal to these parents explains why. >> over the weekend, i was made aware of threats on social media and immediately reported it to maitland police department. >>reporter: late today, we learned the threats were claims there would be a shooting at the school. lakeisha singleton and mercedes jones says this comes after -- >> you come to school to learn, not to fight, not to be -- you come to learn to school and that's it. >>reporter: the principal's call explained that the threats on social media, students were sent to class in staggered groups today. she also referenced the group,

>> we do know the group of students who are causing some of our disruption. >>reporter: we asked the district leaders whether the issues were related to a gang and were told that is up to law enforcement. law enforcement is working out the detail, but these mothers want answer. >> where were the teacher, where were the administrators, how did this happen? >>reporter: in that call to the parent, the principal went on to say there are two meetings held here tomorrow night, one at 6:00 o'clock, one at 7:00 o'clock can and that a school resource officer will be here to answer these threats. reporting live in maitland, channel 9, eyewitness news. in the past hour, investigators in brevard county confirmed the man found dead in a house along with a high school teacher, was her estranged husband. police found the bodies of ricky cook, and 54-year-old sandra melbourne home.

the only two involved, but have not released details. one neighbor says he isn't seen the two in a month. >> about a month, three weeks before christmas, they went away and haven't seen them since. >> sandra cook was a teacher at rock ledge high school. the school put out a statement. the orange county office is working to confirm another possible murder-suicide. they're not looking for any suspects in the deaths of katie hall and her boyfriend, baker, a relative found the couple's bodies at the mission club apartments on saturday. the couple does not have a history of reported domestic violence. >> we are asking what's next for prosecutors after a man's second-degree murder conviction was thrown out. we told you at 5:00, craig sandhouse could get 30 years taken off of his sentence, following a murder of a bouncer at a downtown orlando bar five years ago. he claims he was trying to help his daughter. live outside of the courthouse

sparked the complaints by reid and lane, who says thod those deputies kneed them and twisted reid's arm so hard it was pulled out to socket. they were the ones at fault. we talked with their attorney, and we'll have more on that and what will be their next steps. a hearing is scheduled tomorrow for the orlando police officer accused of kneeing a suspect so hard, his spleen ruptured. we've shown you this video there of officer peter and suspect robert lee, said an orlando police holding cell in august 2014. investigators say lied about the incident, were both fired from the department. his trial is pt anded to begin -- expected to begin in mid february. >> the city of daytona beach wants you to donate to homeless assistance programs. because dozens of homeless people have been camped outside of the property appraiser's

the city has set up a link now on the website for anyone to donate and so far, more than $100,000 have been raise sfwld winter park city leaders may have been violating the sunshine law for years, the city's new attorney says the common practice of commissioners going to tallahassee as a group violates the sunshine law because those trips were not advertise xd there are no minutes of the meetings. the city may ask lawmakers to change the law to allow public officials to meet with lawmakers without those other requirements. rith now, kissimmee police are looking for a man who tried to sexual assault a woman. 4:00 a.m. saturday, he offered a woman a ride. police say when she got in the kashgs, he exposed himself and demand sexual favors, she refused and he pulled out a screwdriver and threat ped to stab her. the woman was able to get out of that vehicle.

you're watching channel 9 witness news at 6:00, coverage you can count on. you at 6:00, a man says he fwoept a local hospital for treatment and was forced to actually sit outside. >> yeah. the former police officer living with health problems now, after 911 went to the st. cloud regional medical center to be tested for tuberculosis, but he told shannon butler, hospital workers didn't know how to treat him. >> you know, take care of myself. >>reporter: patrick smith is a retired nypd police officer. he says he started having problems with his lungs. smith has black lung from the dust and the debris from the twin towers, on friday, he called his doctors after he wasn't feeling well and the doctor wanted him to get tested

5:00 to 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. and brian shields will basically update that if there are any issues tomorrow. check in with him before you head to work. 83 tomorrow. so it's warmer in orlando tomorrow than today. some of the warmest temperatures west of orlando. look at our beaches, though, low 70s palm beach coast, mid 70s cocoa beach. so a little cooler once again tomorrow, at the beach, highlighting the western zone, around clermont, greater pine, up to 84 tomorrow. into the villages, 84, ocala, 84, 83 for a high temperature. the warmest temperatures in the orange county county will be around the attractions, 83. downtown orlando. 82. we can't rule out an isolated shower tomorrow, but mainly dry weather. and then we'll be tracking more heat on wednesday. you see the front, though, behind me? that will bring a good chance for rain come thursday. talk more about that in a second. first, the front will also drop the temperatures, we're down to
