>> cruz beating trump by roughly 5000 votes but the third, marco rubio came in just a few thousand votes shy of beating donald trump for second place. donald trump was leading going into tonight but he finishes 4 points behind ted cruz. it was a strong showing for marco rubio. rub i don't said it was eyeing a third place but tonight almost as good as a win for rubio. tonight in what sounded like a victory speech he said he will lead it to a win over any democratic nominee. >> the people of this great state sent a great message. we are not waiting any longer to take our country back.

one neighbor said he hadn't seen either of the victims in a while. >> he had a big airboat and a big truck. maybe a month before christmas that all went away. >> investigators said they were the only ones involved in the incident. a -- of a day care is behind bars. this all started with the disturbing cell phone video that is playing here behind me. this was captured by a coworker in claire month. police say the director struck a 4-year-old boy with stuffed animals and then threw him on to a cot. the coworker said the abuse had been going on for about 3 weeks. >> i have a child and if somebody hurt her that way, i don't know what i would do. >> while the video looks bad, police say the boy is fine. reed told investigators it was

the city of daytona beach wants you to donate to homeless assistance after -- camped out for 44 days shutting down the government office. the city had set up a link on donate. been raised. good samaritans catch a potential purse snatcher. take a look. it shows the suspect grabbed the 79-year-old victim's purse as she was putting items items into her car. the bystanders were able to get her plate number and call the sheriff's office. deputies say they are interviewing a person they hope

shot and killed a boy last week. deputies said other people in the car with harris took off after the shooting. his mother is now pleading for the public's health. >> my baby had his whole life ahead of him. he did not deserve that. >> that mother said her son was listening to music in her car. new tonight the attorney of a local college student who said deputies used excessive force said she did everything she could to the her client justice. >> the apartment complex where this incident happened. ty, wanted to hear from the accused in person. >> they were left with more questions than answers.

was supposed to protect will go before a grand jury. former security guard followed her into her uptown apartment, raped and murdered her back in october. he was arrested on second degree murder charges and remains in jail. hundreds of students are expected to return to school following a shooting threat. west port officials say it all started on thursday when an african american girl punched a white student. the fight turned into a war of words on social media which spiraled. >> is it annoying for you? absolutely. >> why? >> because i can't go to school. >> 10 police officers patrolled school today why more than half the school students stayed home.

stabbed milton torez to death to protect his brother during a fight in 2011. today the 5th district court of appeals should be resentenced on a lesser manslaughter conviction. the court said he didn't kill him out of hate hatred or spite, which is required. this comes after the district exceeded class limits at lake way and -- the schools will use coteachers, multi grade classrooms and bring in additional teachers. the tax collectors office is at the center of an investigation into fraudulent licenses. arrested these 2 employees at the office. police found nearly 2 dozen people received driver's licenses without having to take drivers tests. both are facing charges,

lake nigh is the fastest growing community but there's 1500 acres of land that the school district won't build on and they have a reason. because the military used the site to test bombs during world war ii. millions of dollars were spent to clean up the land but the county says it doesn't want to take any chances. trying to figure out any threats at a school war gang related after a threat of a shooting circulated on social media. two parents say their kids were attacked at school on friday. >> he was scared so he was one of the kids that wasn't allowed so he's home. >> a call from the school's principal said students were -- to avoid large crowds.

fog will be possible. between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., pockets of dense fog, especially lake sumter and lake counties. in eyewitness news this morning starting at 5:00 a.m. they will be pointing out any issues the fog is causing. upper 50s in palm coast, otherwise 63 in orlando. these are very mild morning temperatures for ground hog day. than normal. the warmest weather will be west of orlando. 83 in orlando. some of the cooler temperatures along our east coast but still tomorrow. a brief shower cannot be ruled out but most people will stay

neighbors say this new business led sign is too bright. the business has offered to make things darker for those who live and sleep nearby. tomorrow on eyewitness news this morning we are going to track some of that fog and that mild out the door start and also get some new information on the timing of our next front.

business said it has toned it down after residents complain the sign was just too bright. no issue with the sign that sits in a commercial zone. the general manager said he has set the resolution to be dimmer at night. he also offered to purchase black out curtains for one neighborhood that complained. after the city of titusville said it was the victim of a wire fraud scheme. it was committed viea e-mail. we have learned the loss to taxpayers will be minimized by the city's liability insurance. in vol use a county, about 400 teachers voiced their opinion. we told you they have not reached a salary increase agreement. is offering teachers a 3% raise but teachers say -- were so upset tonight they began
