started with a call toll 911, but the dispatchers sent them to an officer on bent grass avenue instead of where the call was made. shannon butler has been digging into the officer's history. and you uncovered they have been both under investigation before. >> yeah, they are and just in the last hour the ocoee police chief ooh sent out a carefully worded statement making it clear the officers were sent to the wrong house, that the home owner here did have a gun and stressed despite the door, there were no injuries here. he offered no apology or explanation and said he will take action after an fdle investigation is done. >> the door here at this home is still boarded up. the sign lets everyone know ocoee police did this. the door was shot out by officers after a 911 call sent them to the wrong home. officer stephanie roberts and carlos responded.

identify themselves at the door. he thought they were the bad guys. he never once thought they were the good guys. he tells us they shot his home up, handcuffed him, his wife and 12-year-old son and then searched their home for hours. they sat feeling violated. more than two days later ocoee police offered no explanation to why. channel 9 has learned the officers were under internal investigations before the shooting. sources say the inquiries are involving the time sheet and comp issues. the two were involved in another questionable case in ocoee. they told their bosses an informant said their bosses was selling drugs and protecting a gang. >> sourcers tell us they were retaliated against after bringing up those concerns. they are under administrative leave. they have questions about why these two officers already under scrutiny at the department were

he is trying to figure out all those answers to why. >> now, the door here at the home is still not fixed. the homeowners were waiting to meet with an attorney. they have done that this afternoon. they just got home a while ago and said they have signed with an attorney and all questions now from the ocoee police and media will be directed to him. we are live to want in ocoee, shannon butler, channel 9. orange county investigators are looking at what led up to shots fired at the glitz nightclub. three police officers were working extra duty and reported the shots fired. they spoke to john about this investigation. >> we have a good idea who all and why this happened. it wasn't just a random act of violence.

one of his officers fired their weapons. detectives are reviewing surveillance videos. we will check in and let you know when arrests are made. sunday morn, shooting with -- morning shooting is just one of a half a dozen. we spoke to a woman after her brother was murdered. we will have her story in about 10 minutes. new tonight orlando is trying to change the way they do fire training. we broke the story that a dozen firefighters were exposed to asbestos in an apartment complex. steve baron confronted the mayor and fire chief to find out how it happen and, steve, you found out more firefighters may have been put in danger. >> there are a lot of firefighters here at this location. you can see some fire department employees just arrived in the last hour we believe to pick up the equipment when they abandoned this last week on

today we learned about 400 or more fight fighters or more participated throughout this area, but the ones that got really close to the asbestos laced flooring, there were only about 12 to 15 of those. >> we stopped training at the site and from stopping training we also will launch an investigation interimly within the city to look at -- internally within the city to look at best practices. >> we sat down with orlando major and union to discuss this abandoned apartment complex and the hazardous job the firefighters were doing. floor tiles with cancer causing asbestos were being removed without proper equipment. >> we think the exposure was minimal. >> he tells us he expects changes to the way training is planned.

before 1980 let's all assume it has asbestos until somebody tells you it doesn't. >> union officials tell us 12 to 15 firefighters were in close contact with asbestos material. problem. >> doing air quality samples of the training site, in addition, testing all the bunker gear to see if there was any exposure on the bunker gear itself. >> reporter: and the union president tells me that one other thing that he is going to do is have an occupational health doctor come speak to those firefighterers next week, e plain to them what -- explain to them what to expect and ask questions of that doctor. reporting live in orlando, steve, channel 9. 12 cases of zika virus. declared a public health

state leaders were doing to prepare for the mosquito born defects. >> last week i asked the cdc to test kits. we are also purchasing 4,000 test kits to see if somebody has active zika. >> he says of the 16 cases so far in the state all of them are travel related, meaning no one has contracted the virus in pregnant women. the governor says he is working closely with the department of agriculture to make sure money is going to help with mosquito control. a teenager remains in critical condition after being shot in an orange county home. an 18-year-old accidentally shot a gun. it happened yesterday in the bedroom of a house in con roy acres. walter has been arrested now. he is charged with possession of a gun by a convicted felon. the university of central florida is preparing for the

downtown campus approved. today the school got a boost when the orlando city commissioners approved an incentive package. they gave the ucf 15 acres at the village and center for emerging media. today's vote will help them in the pitch to board of governors next month. >> i'm expecting a lot of hard questions, although to be fair, their staff has asked our staff a lot of questions. and we have answered each and every one of those questions. >> the board is expected to vote on the project, but the school still needs raise $11 on million on its own. >> karla ray got a closer look at the proposed changes and found out it comes after explosionive growth. >> we found out the expansion

gates right here where this parking lot currently sits. and we found out it has to do with the rising popularity of domestic flights to and from sanford. >> simpler, faster, better. that's the motto . >> getting in and out is so much easier. >> that convenience helps the once country airport soar in popularity. 2 1/2 million people came through, setting an airport record. and domestic passengers nearly tripled from a lull in 2010. >> that's pretty impressive, yeah, the word is getting around. >> we learned that's the push behind these expansion plans. we got a look at early renders for gates with an estimated cost of 4 1/2 million. when you reach a capacity level you need to start planning for the next phase. >> they told us most of that will be from fees collected from plane tickets but $9 million will come from the department of transportation.

investigating a body. fisherman found the body of a 72-year-old man floating between the international speedway. the body had no signs of trauma. the man did have an id on him, but investigators are reaching out to his family before releasing his name. tomorrow kissimmee police will take steps to make sure you don't get ripped off. two skimmers were found in two gas stations in kissimmee. now the department of agriculture will do a sweep of all the gas stations in the city to ensure there are no other skimmers. crooks use those skimmers to capture your credit and debit card information. there is another twist considering the leadership of the city of mount dora. they have cancelled plans -- canceled plans for the

the first was when two people were shot and killed in a parking lot in a florida mall and 11 people were hurt when there were shots. mike, she told you she has been doing it for years, but can't get everybody on board. >> she worked on preventing gun sly lens after her brother -- violence after her brother was killed. but getting people to care is hardest part of her job. >> this happens in every day places, in a mall parking lot, outside a grocery store and inside a nightclub. >> it seems like we have forgeten to care about each other. >> this is janita jones from sanford. >> we are losing our kids, young. we are not only losing them, we are losing us.

put your guns down, put your hand up after her brother was shot to death in 2013. she says she needs help from the community to make a difference, but says that's the tough part. >> getting people out has been a struggle. >> she says when she tries to get people to join her cause, most people just aren't interested. >> it's been difficult only because i believe that usually when it's not someone's loved one that is touched, even though it's affecting the community, we tend to turn a blind eye. >> i tried to get ahold of local city and county leaders to get their thoughts on the violence. >> the mayor can comment. >> but either they didn't return my call were weren't available for an interview. jones just helps people start paying attention. >> jones is planning a rally against gun violence outside orlando city hall. that will happen at the end of the month.

orlando police department and orange county sheriff's office. both of those agencies tell me they do have outreach programs that involve going into neighborhoods to stop gun violence. we are following breaking news out of south florida where a statewide amber alert was issued. authorities are looking for her with a red shirt with a heart on it and pink pants. she may be with a man driving a green chevy cruise, bps 7346, anyone with information is urged to contact 911. increase in police controls and task force in leesburg is paying off. they have made 100 arrests in the carber hearts address. this new receiver in response to a string of recent shootings last year.

support a measure to use cellphone pings to help ease traffic on the roads. we told you in november when congressman john proposed a program to place sensors at intersections. those would use pings on cellphones to count the cars. the lights would be adjusted in realtime to ease congestion. >> i will definitely give it a thumbs up. that will definitely help. >> half of the impacted cities passed resolutions supporting the program. the other half is set to discuss the program at meetings this month. seminole county deputies arrested a man for leading them on a high speed chase. you can see them in this video. at one point the driver was going more than 100 miles per hour. eventually the car stopped the driver ran away, but deputies quickly caught him. brandon is now facing several charges.

tavares is revamping their downtown district. this is the first plan we have seen. the multimillion dollar project will bring retail, sidewalks and recreation nor tourists. no idea when it will start. the water management district is reporting the highest level of brown tide algae in years. it has improved in the mosquito lagoon. it persists in the lagoons. experts think extra nutrients, if it remains it could keep it from reaching sea grass. and after their trip was cut short after some very rough seas, they are asking the ntsb to investigate it. >> anthem of the seas encountered hurricane force winds off the coast of north dakota. the damage was captured bypass

the cruise -- passengers. we spoke to a number of people cruising from port canaveral this afternoon. >> my understanding any time the ship anticipates a storm, they will go around it. >> in this case royal caribbean said wind speeds were higher than forecasted. they are being refunded and getting tickets for half off the next trip. and rains ahead of schedule. moved in saturday around lunch hour, so these things are fast moving. the atmosphere is energized, which is common in an el nino cycle. caught the fourth largest cruise ship in the middle of a storm. west, southwest breeze at 17 miles per hour. 60s across the board with a gusty wind out of the south and west. we will get more of a northwest wind behind this front.

and just a sliver of showers will be moving closer as you make your late evening plans tonight. just a spritz or sprinkle here from 10:00 all the way down past 11:30, 12:00 tonight. so that will be just ahead of the cold front. the front itself will slide through once you start your day tomorrow, orlando, between 10:00 and midnight chance for shower, not all that bad this evening, the wind will make you feel cooler. temperatures will fall all the way after sunrise because cold air is going to keep rolling in all the way through the day tomorrow, that brief isolated shower will be long gone by daybreak, 40 in palm coast tonight. the wind chill in the morning, remember, temperature mid to upper 40s, but wind chill 30s to low 30s. so cool there. then tomorrow night as a second cold front moves through, and look at this, wednesday morning 20s and 30s.
