was made sunday night when the gunfire started inside glitz nightclub. earlier this week, we broke the news that federal drug agents were asked to join the investigation. yesterday we uncovered one of the victims was suspected in half a dozen violent crimes in puerto rico. we reported this gun battle could have ties to the drug wars there. kathi belich questioned the chief about the potential connection to puerto rico. you asked if he is worried that we could see this kind of violence right here. >> reporter: well, puerto rico's failing economy is driving as many as a thousand hardworking people every month from the island here to florida. we asked if the chief if it is also sending more criminals and drug gangs our way and whether that has anything to do with the shooting. an orlando police report just released today says a security video shows a fight broke out inside the glitz ultralounge between two groups of hispanic men and immediately some pulled

the police chief told us today that the two men who were killed were on opposite sides of the gun battle and the three others that survived also were involved. we asked the chief whether he is concerned that drug turf wars in puerto rico could be migrating to orlando. >> is that a concern, that people are coming from elsewhere and coming here and their problems are being played out and innocent people are being killed. >> any time there is loss of life, it is a concern to us. >> reporter: the chief says he does not know whether puerto rico's failing economy is bringing drug turf wars here. so far 23-year-old jose lopez is the only one who has been arrested. he admitted he took a gun into the club but denies he ever fired t he told police he was not patted down as others were and had his handgun with an extended magazine hidden inside the groin area of his pants. the chief said that detectives are still investigating and

but won't say why the three survivors accused of participating have not been arrested. now, opd's report says that there were photos on social media of rivalling gang members and threats that they would be targets on sunday night. the chief would not elaborate about that. he did say that glitz security was not properly trained and that the owner has closed it down. reporting live at opd headquarters, kathi belich, channel 9 eyewitness news. >> new at 6:00, an orlando police officer who investigates other cops is off the job tonight accused of drinking, hitting another vehicle in her city-issued car, and then taking off. this is dash cam video of the off duty officer right after the incident. 9 investigates found out she admitted she had been drinking but she was never given a field sobriety test.

and a 911 caller saw the whole thing. >> reporter: yeah. he said it happened right here in this very spot in front of the apartments. he took down the driver's license and even walked up to the front of her vehicle to confront her. that's when he told dispatchers that she took off down the street. when cops caught up to her, she got a slap on the wrist. >> were you -- >> reporter: we obtained dash camera video taken on super bowl sunday minutes after the driver of this ford fusion backed into another car while trying to parallel park and took off. >> were you drinking or just hanging out with friends. >> no, i was drinking. >> okay. >> reporter: the driver admits to having beers just yards away but denies being in an accident even though there was damage to her bumper. >> i just seen a lady back into a car and then i approached her on it. she is really drunk. >> reporter: in fact a 911 caller claims he saw everything and even took down the woman's

uncovered is registered to a car that you paid for. >> are you a sworn officer. >> yes, sir. >> what department do you work in. >> reporter: the driver is anna cafland. >> are you saying that didn't happen. >> that didn't happen. >> reporter: despite admitting to drinking and denying any recollection of the crash, the cop was only given a criminal citation for hit and run. no field sobriety test and no trip to jail. so we asked if she got special treatment. >> why didn't she go to jail. >> hit and run, leave being the scene of an accident is a misdemeanor. again, that's officer discretion. >> reporter: and tonight the police department is standing by its officer's discretion. there is no internal investigation for how he handled the call. but that officer is relieved of duty.

karla ray, channel 9 eyewitness news. we posted the entire 10- minute dash cam video of the officer being questioned and you can take a look for yourself at wftv.com. click on the video tab. we continue to follow breaking news right now. just a few hours ago an inmate that escaped with his girlfriend and her 3-year-old son have been found in kentucky. blaine tolison just spoke were investigators. the trio has been on the run for exactly three weeks. >> reporter: and this entire time, the family of that missing 3-year-old has been worried sick about that boy. i spoke to the grandmother of zander, the 3-year-old, and she told me that the family is very relieved they were all found safe. she was in this parking lot three weeks ago passing out flyers, trying to bring attention to this matter. it's right across the street from this resort where bullock allegedly escaped from his work release program.

monitor and just left here with the help of his girlfriend, natasha quigley. u.s. marshalls told me over the phone that they were found at a phone in kentucky. there was no resistance and zander was found safe. bullock faces charges of escape, destruction of a monitor and destruction. i spoke to the grandmother over the phone and she is on her way to get zander from pennsylvania. it's about an 8-hour drive. we will have more on this story tonight at 10:00 and 11:00. we're live in daytona beach shores, channel 9 eyewitness news. they're now using social media to get the word out about this sexual predator.

accused of sexually abusing a child. he was supposed to turn himself into to police but he took off. police say he has been running ever since. >> we're hoping that someone somewhere will see this, share it on social media and be able to identify him. >> take another look at adams. police believe may be living under an assumed identity. he has done it before. the main suspect in a brinks heist plans to take his luck at trial rather than taking a plea deal. that bag contained $160,000. today he rejected a plea deal that would have forced had i am to pay back $52,000 that is still missing and spend 10 years in prison. >> do you think the sentence that they were offering was too harsh? >> at this time we're not making any

>> that was his attorney. the trial is now set for may. if convicted he faces up to 50 years in prison. a third person was just arrested in connection with a suspected illegal sports betting operation. we told you earlier this week when two other people were arrested. investigators say they were running the operation out of this store, the food and grocery off of orange blossom trail. undercover agents had been placing bets on football games all season. in less than an hour, donald trump will take the stage at the university of south florida in tampa. his sharp tongue has earned him supporters but also raised a lot of eyebrows. michael paluska is live in tampa where trump says he is going to tone down some of the language. >> reporter: the candidates have been attacking trump for those harsh words. trump said that he would tone down the language and not use any more foul words.

attack the other candidates but we will see how he delivers that message. a group of protesters, about 50 of them, gathered outside as part of the dump trump efforts. they're upset with his comments on immigration and muslims. trump fans that i spoke with outside say they like the fact that the candidate doesn't hold back and they believe his harsh words have tapped into an anger going around the country right now. a man drove from orlando just to see the candidate. >> i believe he realizes that he has to be a little bit more presidential. and he is so far ahead in the person. a few minutes ago. the line is out the door, around the arena and down the block literally. a lot of people expected tonight. he will take the stage around 7:00 and we will have a full

>> some st. cloud neighbors called channel 9 after they discovered their mail was discovering for years. >> they blamed one of the mail carriers caught by the post office's newest technology delivering to the wrong spot. when we started asking questions about who was delivering the mail, neighbors say the woman was taken off the route. >> reporter: the post office started upgrading technology about a year ago. you probably already know they scan your packages when they're leaving them on the doorstep.

they're logging the gps coordinates of the drop-off points. to see it you just have to know who to ask. >> all of the neighbors it was like a mail swap. we got your mail. you have ours. >> reporter: for years postal customers in this neighborhood had been on clean-up duty after the mail truck headed back to home base. >> i've had mail from the front of the neighborhood. >> reporter: heather finally got fed up. she realized all of the problems were with the fill-in that delivers letters and packages when the main mail carrier is off. >> we're just so tired of complaining. >> reporter: jeffrey scott lives down the street. he used to be a mail carrier himself. put the numbers there so she can see definitely. >> has it helped? >> i still don't get some of the right mail. >> reporter: but those packages didn't get lost in transient. >> you guys found my house okay. i don't know.

know why it's so hard to drop things on the right doorstep or how one mail carrier can consistently stop in the wrong spot but now she has a map to find the packages that the neighbors nervelet like returning -- never felt like returning. the neighbors are worried since the mail carrier is still employed, she will be another community's problem. >> now, we did ask the post office for details on that reassigned mail carrier and whether that gps system will be made available to customers on the internet. we're waiting for a response. we're getting an update on the sister that was serverly injured off duty.

of his body when a gas can exploded on super bowl sunday. a man got nearly a $1,000 water bill from the city of cocoa beach. other neighbors also noticed discrepancies with their water bills. he couldn't have used that much water because he hadn't been home for months. >> i was in new jersey. i was in new jersey. so i don't know how they can justify it. >> now, the mayor spoke with us today and said the city is checking the data and will look to see if it's an issue with the meters. a new city manager will continue later this week. they will stop looking for a new candidate due to scheduling conflicts. now city council members have vote today continue the process until the end of february. in polk county a grow house

plants was busted thanks to the electric company. deputies confiscated 111 marijuana plants, grow equipment and other drug paraphernalia. a electric worker found wires tapped into the electrical system that led to the barn. deputies arrested phillip prior and linda lemonte. a record number of passengers traveled through the airport last year. 38million passengers came through oia in 2015. that shatters the previous record set back in 2007. that's about two and a half million more travelers. it is hawk nesting season again at the port orange library. and there have already been a few attacks this year. >> a woman says one of the bird landed on her mother's head last no.
