mary bruce has the latest. >> reporter: overnight, slick, sleety roads leading to wreck after wreck. >> there's a lot of icy spots. >> reporter: early this morning, this massive pileup in pennsylvania, just north of scranton on i-81, semi trucks hitting each other. crushing cars in their path. rescue crews are on the scene. there are reports of multiple injuries. the ice-covered interstate remains closed. many cars unable to get traction. over,000 wrecks in 24 hours across 17 states. virginia seeing more than 500. it wasn't just miserable road conditions. tornadoes touching down in the south. on the florida/alabama border, a tornado damaging homes and dropping trees on cars. in louisiana, a reported tornado ripping the roof off this car wash and tossing it into this pizza hut. cell phone video capturing the panicked patrons moments after.

there are still a lot of unanswered questions about who killed a woman and her 16-year- old daughter. we first told you about this yesterday as it was breaking on eyewitness news at 4:00. the two were found by a man who lives inside the pine hills home where they were found on santa barbara road. they say it was not a murder- suicide. deputies are not saying how they died or if they have any suspects. victims names have not been released. let's look at the roads. >> we have two crashes on i-4 westbound starting off in seminole county at 434. this crash is off to the shoulder. it is slowing down traffic. give yourself an extra five minutes in that direction. i-4 westbound at orange blossom trail this is your traffic
