this is channel 9 eyewitness news at 11:00, coverage you can count on. breaking tonight, a mother was just hauled off the jail. police believe she abandoned her baby moments after giving birth. >> and right now officers are still trying to track down what happened to that newborn. >> just after 8:00 tonight an orlando mother was taken in handcuffs to jail where she is being held right now without bond. >> police believe she gave birth yesterday, then left the

apartments but officers have not been able to find that baby. was there to question the mother as she was taken into custody and she didn't have anything to say to you. >> not at all and we talked to her right in this spot outside the orange county jail before she went in and she turned her head away from our cameras and detectives say she has been doing the same thing to them and they don't know if this baby is dead or alive. >> only our camera was there. we were at the orange county jail moments later when that same cruiser pulled up with richardson inside. >> can you tell us where is baby willow? >> she turned her head away from us. >> did you kill baby willow? >> and still no response. we tracked down richardson's boyfriend who didn't know she had the baby.

i seen blood. i said i'm going to call the ambulance. she said no. >> we obtained her mugshot just after 8:00. detectives don't know where the baby is located. police say she delivered at the hills. and this area is walking distance from a police substation where police stay unwanted newborn babies can be dropped off without a penalty. tonight we asked police chief if they have given up. >> we don't give up hope. >> when we talked to the chief he confirmed that richardson is charged with aggravated child neglect. they told me richardson is expected first appearance tomorrow. ty russell. we are going to stay on top of this story throughout the night. we will be in touch with orlando police and have any new developments for you on eyewitness news this morning

tonight eyewitness news found out more than 230 newborns have been left in the last 15 years. protects parents from any penalties if they choose to give up their newborn child. >> criminal prosecution is most mothers. and to know a life is saved to get to a station. haven sign outside. that is a way of knowing. at this hour orange county detectives don't have a suspect in connection with the murders of a mother and her daughter. we found out they were homeless before they moved into this house where investigators say they were killed. neighbors were too afraid to talk to us on camera about the murders. tonight an orange county man faces charges for killing his girlfriend's father.

he is accused of stabbing and killing 81-year-old in a home over the weekend. he was initially taken into custody with his girlfriend who is also the victim's daughter. right now there is no word on whether she is connected to the case. heart break for a local family. the coast guard has suspended its search for a man lost at sea. >> the search was called off at 7:00 tonight after the coast guard said it exhausted all of its efforts. there as that search ended. jeff, did the family have any reaction to this news? >> well, we tried to talk to the family but understandablely they are too upset to talk about these latest developments. we are here at coco beach and this is just one part of florida's coastline that was searched since sunday night. as the sun set, eyewitness news was there as members of the coast guard came back into port and cleaned up their vessel after a 12 hour search.

word that the search was suspended by the coast guard after 7:00 p.m. for the last 3 days crews searched over 5000 miles of the ocean for the merit island man who never came home sunday after heading out on his boat. we were there when investigators found his boat. they found it after they pinged his cell phone. friends tell us he was an experienced professional cautious. the coast gourd would not do an interview but released a press release saying in part. >> a friends of chamberlains told us he was in amazing shape and they are hoping somehow he was able to make it to shore.

new tonight, orange county commissioners just shut down plans to build two charter schools. we have told you parents have been against the project since two years ago. unanimously voted against the two schools. they said traffic and parking in the area would be a nightmare and one of the schools would be too close to a bar. the city of grove land took a historic step to right a wrong from 70 years ago. the mayor issued a post hum us apology. in 1949, two of them went to prison, two others killed after being arrested for an alleged rape of a white girl. family members say they are still waiting for action from the state which that ignored legislation to. >> i think it's going to cut somebody hard.

but a new audit shows issues with the way they handled money. >> i think we did some things out of convenience and maybe because we didn't plan so well. >> money bill oversees -- says a lack of communication caused the county to be out of the loop on how business was being handled. >> who is responsible for not having the communication? >> that's on me. i will take responsibility for that. >> the most disturbing issue according to auditors is that independent contractors hired to supervise kids for camp were not background checked. the money. money ranging from poor recordkeeping to employees who quit being paid a total of have been. and the biggest financial hit was at the historical society was paying for insurance on this building.

they didn't even need it. the county was already self insured. auditors wrote the organization was double insuring the building property. that's about $300,000 of money down the drain. in orlando, shannon butler. a county spokesperson said the old director retired after 30 years of service. the new director told us most fixed. a no contest that left a toper injured and another teen dead was just sentenced as a delinquent child. we told you when morgan mcneil and her boyfriend were approached by a trooper and tear i know oched fire. the trooper shot back killing the boy. mcneil will be in a program until she vetches the age of 21. a suspected hit an run driver is sitting in jail after the victim helped track him down.

9 investigates whether an orlando affairs officer violated policy in the past and got away with it. last week we exposed the officer admitting to drinking and driving her city vehicle, which believe was used in a hit and run. live with the alleged incidents happen and the first one didn't result in any criminal charges. >> in that situation a witness told investigators they saw that officer's vehicle hit a car and pole just like this one

that same night alt month police say they found a man drunk in the passenger's seat of that city vehicle. that would violate this opd policy but it allegedly happened back in august and she's been working in internal affairs ever since. >> 9 investigates first exposed this video of anna cough land. >> were you drinking or just hanging out with friend. >> i was dripping. >> drinking and then driving her city issued car which police say was used in a hit and run on super bowl sunday. now her ia colleagues are investigating her but we uncovered claims she may have violated policy months ago. these were taken on august 7th after someone reported seeing a man in the driver's seat of her city issued impala. alt month police told us they

right now we're much quieter. look at the rain totals from earlier today. it was windy along the coast as well. also had a tornado warning but nothing varyified. it's been very busy but we have been very busy. showing fog in the morning from about 6:00 to 8:00 mainly on the west side where we also had rain early last night. as far as osceola county, winds down. st. cloud at 47. very very nice and quiet with the exception of some patchy late night fog. back to the upper 40s in the morning. quickly warming up. 75 degrees at 3:00 p.m. the average about 73.

average day along the coast tomorrow. over toward cocoa beach. all the way up the coast looking good for tomorrow and a nice 73 over at daytona beach. here's a look at early morning future track. we will get that pamy fog to the -- patchy fog to the west. but overall mostly fair skies. we will get more of a breeze. relatively dry air will keep our rain chances out of the forecast. all the way through thursday, friday, and including the upcoming weekend. and boy what a week it's going to be for racing over in daytona. they just spent $400 million on the track. got it all ready to go here. 7:00 on thursday. they start the dual races trying to start for the daytona 500. skies will be clear.

new tonight the titusville fire department is working to find out what caused a fire at a senior living community. they got a call about smoke. by the time they got there the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system. no one was hurt. lake county residents took tear concerns to commissioners about a plan to build 200 homes on an old golf course. residents dressed in red let them know. after hours of discussions both sides worked out a deal and commissioners approved the project. roller koster enthusiasts may only have to wait a few months to ride mayco. will be the at tallest, fastest and longest in orlando. will carry 3 trains and the only thing that will hold you
