you go to defend them? use #abc2020. that's "20/20" for tonight. i'm david muir. >> and i'm elizabeth vargas. from all of us, have a good night and a great weekend. this is channel 9 eyewitness news at 11:00. breaking right now, this local teacher was just arrested. accused of having sex with a student in a classroom. but tonight he is denying the allegations. >> lake county deputies arrested an east ridge high school teacher. >> the investigation started after a 17-year-old said the teacher had taken her to the school in the middle of the night where they had sex.

mike investigators say the teacher's relationship with the teen started on an adult website website. >> yes. right now deputies say the teacher is here. deputies say he sent a message to the student using a website where adults meet for sex and investigators say that is how it all started. >> investigators say 41-year- old marshal young rice knew the 17-year-old victim when he reached out for her on adult friends finder.com. because lake county deputies say the girl was a former student of his. investigators say the student told them that young rice picked her up and brought her here to the school before he led her to his portable classroom. that's where deputies say he had sex with the girl in the middle of the night. it all happened in november

contacted the girl online. deputies say young rice admitted to sending the girl a message but says the 2 never had sex. >> it's shocking. >> kristin's daughter is a student at the school. we told her about young rice's arrest as she left a softball game. >> you never know who you can trust and we trust these teachers and coaches with our kids. that's -- i don't know. >> we found young rice's bio on the school's website. it shows he teaches history and serves as the head girl's cross country coach. it also shows he spent nearly a decade where he worked as the head coach girl's track coach. >> i mention that young rice is still here at the jail. he is held without bonds. i am told he will see a judge first thing in the morning.

breaking nows. this time in orange county where the fire marshal has been 8 units have been affected. no word yet on the extent of the damage but all of the unoccupied. we will update you. at this hour there is no trace of the newborn baby born monday in a pine hills apartment complex. today dive teams spent several hours searching a pond half a mile away. orlando police didn't find the baby there but they did leave crime scene tape up over part of the pond tonight and an officer will be guarding that area. neighbors who know the mother are holding out hopes that somehow the new newborn will be found alive. >> for them to charge her with child neglect, that's crazy. >> tonight that mother is still being held in the orange county jail on a 50,000-dollar bond.

decided to put the search on hold for human remains in a volusia county woods. investigators told us they need heavier equipment. now due to the proximity of the search area to the volusia county jail, deputies believe the remains could remain to 56- year-old -- he vanished from that jail in 2014. we'll see if more cases of zika have been confirmed. there are now 26 cases in the state, including one in osceola and one in brevard. officials tell us they believe the newest became infected during travels in columbia. so far none have come from mass kiet owes -- mosquitoes here. click on the news tab. tonight seminole county schools and teachers still have not reached an agreement on

teachers are working with the minimum hours required by their contracts each day. >> this was the scene today. a group was out in front of spring lake elementary early this morning and walked out right at 3:00 when the bell rang. they told us papers are going ungraded and e-mails unanswered but classroom instruction still has not been impacted. >> i'm hoping that it will open the county's eyes and soften their hearts to us because we are the reason they are a district and the sooner they get that the better off they will be. >> it hopes to have the conflict dispute resolved soon. new in brevard county, we just got our hands on video of cash. say this guy was inside the union. you can see him right there

and then he takes off. an off duty deputy heard about the robbery and caught reed. there is still no sign of an orange county teenager accused of running over a deputy. >> new tonight we uncovered more of the history between the teenager and deputies. angela uncovered a long list of visits deputies have had at that boy's home. and he's also been arrested for a similar assault before. >> the sheriff's office doesn't believe he's armed. they say his actions today and in the past are plenty to consider him dangerous and have him wanted for attempted murder. >> tonight we found this east orange county street dark and quiet. no sign of the multiagency search now under way for a 15- year-old fugitive. >> we want to certainly hold him accountable for his actions even though he's a juvenile.

still see the tire tracks where sergeant marcy pierce said he deliberately tried to run her down as she approached his car this morning. >> sergeant pierce said that she could hear the engine reffing and he began to increase his speed. >> the 22-year-old department veteran suffered head, hand and back injuries before her release from the hospital. we told you earlier sergeant reed. we now know the sheriff's office is very familiar with this address telling us deputies have been out here 12 times the past 6 months. >> we don't know if any of those calls were related to ortiz. only 4 times did deputies file reports. tonight we tried again to contact ortiz's mother but neighbors say they didn't know her or her son. the search continues for a

was arrested for assaulting an officer with a car in another escape. i also reached out to orlando police and highway patrol. both agencies involved in helping out with that search. i have been told all officers and troopers are still asked to be on the look out for that white honda hatch back with black rims. we're live in orange county. channel 9 eyewitness news. we are going to stay on top of the search throughout the night. we will have the latest for you when you wake tomorrow. if you have bought gas recently in st. cloud you want to take a look at your credit card. earlier this month police were checking more than a dozen gas stations. skimming has been a big problem in that area for the past two weeks.

connection with a deadly night club shooting is out object bond. we told you yesterday he was arrested along with luis for their alleged involvement with that shooting at glitz ultra lounge in orlando. 2 people were killed and others injured. tonight another campaign contribution for a winter park city commissioner is being questioned. last week we told you about carolyn cooper who took money from her campaign from a garbage collect or. she returned the money. now cooper has accepted $2000 from a developer hoping to buy city lands. tonight there is still no trial date for a man accused of killing suarez and her children back in 2013. the judge said he had ordered him to a courtroom this morning

leave his jail cell. >> i ordered the deputies to bring him here forcefully, so i don't know if he's here voluntarily. >> his trial has been postponed until lawmakers can fix florida's death penalty system. the man who repeatedly slashed the throat of an elderly woman will spend the rest of his life behind bars. today a judge denied his request to reduce his sentenced him to life in prison. the judge called reed a danger to the community. the victim said she felt like a prisoner in her own home. >> it's wonderful that i don't have to be worried about coming back down here or facing him. i can finish this and hopefully get on with my life. prosecutors say that reed had been arrested for robbery in new york state 5 times

tonight 2 lake county parents are out on bond facing child abuse charges after school officials saw injuries on a child. say sabrina beat a 9-year-old child in january and matthews did nothing to stop it. they kept the child out of school but when he returned officials saw his injuries and reported it. >> all of our employees are mandatory reporters when it comes to child abuse or neglect or abandonment and that's mandated by state. >> dcf has removed all 7 children who lived with that couple. a judge just ruled the city of orlando broke rules when it handed out red light camera tickets. what that could mean for those cot. clouds and. plus the actions a former

here we have seen this camera flash several times here at the intersection of lake under hill and similar ron. now, it was catching drivers going through the lights but lawyers say if they challenge it in court it should be tossed. >> today in downtown we caught up with drivers who didn't mind the news that the red light cameras could be shut down. >> i just wish they would he limb in it them state -- eliminate them statewide. >> after she got a red light allowed american solution a private company to do the job of police. >> i realized it was a clear violation of police power. >> i went to city hall today but no one would talk on camera for us. >> the city did later release a statement saying they disagree with this decision.

investigators say hamilton took nearly $4000 she was not entitled to. >> they said you were [ indiscernible ] >> in florida for every one investigator there are more than 37,000 food stamp households. a man is refusing to give up the fight for custody of a daughter he has never even met. he has been in a long legal battle losing cases. his daughter has an adopted family but he is asking a judge to get her back. >> i love her. i love her. i loved her from the beginning and i love her now. >> the judge is now expected to case. he says the woman who had that baby gave the baby away and now baby back. a lot of stuff going on.

children and they are asking anyone who knows anything to come forward. sea world wants to build a resort for guests. hired a person of several resorts to head this project. also the chief park operations has retired and will be replaced by the president of sea world san diego. a shoe print led police to 3 teens accused of stealing guns and other valuables. they broke into a house yesterday and stole rifles, silver bars and coins worth $26,000. a deputy matched the shoe of one of the suspects with a shoe found near the targeted house. in brevard county, people may have noticed a plume of black smoke. a pile of scrap metal somehow caught fire. nobody was hurt. the cause of the fire and all
