with sheriff's deputies. >> the sheriff's office said ortiz was taken into custody at his mother's house around 1:15 just feet away from the original crime scene. deputies found the stolen vehicle abandoned on saturday. >> paul sotter lives across the street in the suspect's mother and was home the day sergeant pearce got hit. he said he watched one detective approach the house and back up quickly arrived. >> the next thing i knew the swat team was here and they all went in there and they arrested him and brought him out. i don't know if he turned himself in or what. i'm just so glad i started -- i almost started clapping. >> reporter: the sheriff's office said that suspect is not talking tonight and has asked for an attorney. we previously reported that he has had past run-ins with the law. we've asked the county how this whole process will play out given his past and the seriousness of this situation and we're working on that story for 6:00.

live in orlando, michael la party, channel 9, eyewitness news. covering brevard county tonight, we just talked to family members of a father and daughter found dead in their home on merritt island. deputies say the father committed suicide but can't say what happened to his 13-year-old daughter. their bodies with your discovered on indian street. our brevard county reporter melanie holt just spoke to the dad's sister. melanie, she said he was a great father but did have stress in his life. >> reporter: she told me he worked sometimes seven days a week and long hours. she told him that he needed a life outside of work. she told me that she would have a hard time imaging a scenario where he could have harmed his daughter at their home and she's waiting for investigators to do their work. >> neighbors describe 42-year-old sittichai boonkeian as a hard worker who doted on his 13-year-old now. the sheriff's office is investigating his suicide and his daughter's death.

just trying to figure out, you know, what is the reasoning behind it. very shocking. >> investigators won't be able to say what happened to ananya mangmart until her autopsy is complete but she was a bright 6th grader who spoke three languages. she had aspirations of a career in law. today grief councillors we are at her school. >> my oldest daughter reminded me of her. she looked just like her from a distance. >> and neighbors tell us they saw no warning of the tragedy now unfolding on indian street but they did notice boonkeian's car in his driveway for days. that was unimaginable for the restaurant owner and his family's unability to reach him. >> it's terrible. it's very sad. very sad .

the shooting death of 17-year-old jordan davis. his lawyers appealed claiming multiple errors by the judge and prosecutors. prosecutors say the conviction was legal and dunn should not get a new trial. health officials have confirmed another case of zika virus here in orange county. there are now 28 cases of the mosquito-born virus in florida. roy ramos is live at a mosquito roy, this new case here in orange county is another traveler. >> reporter: bob, officials say is that this one a travel-related case. we did get a chance to speak to officials here at mosquito control. they said they are proactively working to stop the spread of the zika virus. they do need the help of residents. they are urging you to clear any areas of standing water to stop mosquitos from breeding. >> it is described on the

fever, rash and joint pain. officials have reported two more cases of the virus in florida. >> cases of the zika virus have been reported in miami-dade down and in orange county bringing the total number of cases to 28 in the state with two cases now reported in orange county, one in osceola and another one in brevard county. cases are also rising in central florida. >> health officials said the zika carrying mosquitos strive and breed in manmade containers that you can find in your yard like buckets, jars and guters. >> workers have been on the look out because the same mosquitos also carry other viruses. >> the health department said it's a growing concern because of the dangers the virus can cause with pregnant woman resulting in birth defects and miscarriages. >> reporter: all reported cases of zika are travel-related. if

to the virus health officials urge that you self-quarantine and maintain minimal contact with others around you. in orange county, roy ramos, channel 9, eyewitness news. it appears the clermont day care director charged with child abuse will not get out of soon. kimberly reid was arrested after a coworker shot video of her striking and slowing down a small boy. she's in jail for violating probation where she stole from another day care. her attorney requested bond but that was denied. tsa precheck is now at the sanford airport. precheck allows low risk travelers to get through security lines faster by letting them keep their shoes on. congressman john micah was at the airport for the announcement. >> it's a great advantage we save time and we save money. the federal government saves money because we don't have to spend taxpayers resources

ballots have to go out 45 days before the election. they means they were certified in december with all the candidates names. the super visors of elections can't reprint every time someone drops out. it's too expensive and sets them up for too many mistakes. >> half of the candidates here on the ballot have already suspended their campaigns. the best advice from the supervisor of elections is to wait until march 1st. in seminole county, shannon butler, channel 9, eyewitness news. >> the good news is just because someone dropped out doesn't mean your vote won't count. they're still in the race if they're suspended. according to the division of elections none of the presidential candidates has officially with drawn yet. election supervisors are using twitter, facebook and their website to try to reach voters to let them know which candidates have suspended their campaigns.

be getting a cold front and a line of storms approaching on wednesday. the bottom line is we have a threat for severe weather and the threat for a tornado out break across the deep south. we will have a slight, slight chance of a tornado here but mainly it's going to be across the mid south here. here's mississippi, alabama, georgia, right along i-10. tornado out break. this is for tomorrow. as we head closer to wednesday that is when we will have storms closer to our area and we'll be down from a moderate risk, which is what we have to the north all the way down to just a slight risk on the north side of central florida. let me show you how future track pans this out. isolated showers along the sea breeze. i don't think we'll have any thunder, just a passing shower. into tomorrow morning a warm front passes by. some scattered light rain developing along with that. joining rusty

the search of this pond here today was really their last solid lead they had and even though they spend hours in here they didn't come up with anything. >> after more than two days after pumping out water and draining this small pond today the water level was low enough for the orange county sheriff's office dive team to walk the pond in a grid-like pattern searching the bottom inch by inch looking for any sign of missing newborn baby willow. >> whatever happened with that baby the lord knows and she knows. >> roscoe sparrow is talking about susan richardson. police believe she gave birth between 10:00 a.m. and noon near the willow bend apartments and discarded the baby. we've seen searching with dogs, the dive team sent into the pond that richardson used to walk past and today's search in the pond on foot. three different dog
