this is channel 9 eyewitness news at 11:00, coverage you can count on. right now construction on the i-4 ultimate is halted indefinitely after a worker is run over and killed by a dump truck. we are asking why work is stopping on the entire 21-mile project. tonight crews have been taken off the i-4 ultimate project. >> we first told you that crews stopped work on the entire project after a dump truck backed over and killed a worker this morning. jeff live near mate lynn where this happened. there is no set date to go back to work so how much is this going to set this project back? >> as you can see there is no work going on right now on the i-4 ultimate project.

received an e-mail from the contractor and they tell me they build in weather days for situations like this and also try to schedule for unseen events so they don't anticipate this delaying the project at all. this is where that unfortunately accident happened and they tell me they plan to regroup. >> late tonight talked to the i- 4 project director. he confirmedded that work on the 21-mile stretch has come to a screeching halt. >> at this point in time we are going to open when we are ready to open. we're not going to go back to work until we are confident that everybody has had the proper training, the right focus and when we are sure we are ready we will go back to work. they are saddened by the death of their colleague. according to the highway patrol, franklin was killed when a dump truck backed up and

the operator of the truck is 49- year-old morales. it's still not known why franklin did not get out of the way. >> all we know is a dump truck was making a delivery of sand to the area. but we really don't have any other details. >> the design build contractor says they are cooperating with the investigation. there are over 400 employees and 200 supervisors that are project. >> the victim had only been working with them for about a month. we did some digging and found that franklin last lived in fort meyers before he came here to work on the project. meanwhile the truck driver is a subcontractor for the project and we learned also that osha is investigating this incident. reporting live. right now the orange county sheriff's office will be

throughout the night after the boater disappeared this evening. he boarded his boat about 7:30 this morning. about 3 hours later it turned up empty. lake county deputies are helping with the search. we learned space x is launching tomorrow night. out of an abundance of caution tonight's launch was scrubbed to insure liquid oxygen was as cold as possible. tomorrow's launch window opens up at 6:00 a.m. you can watch it on air and online. the altamonte mother accused of shooting and killing her adult son is still locked up. virginia is facing first degree premeditated murder charges. police say she shot and killed her 28-year-old son while he was in the shower.

for more than a day without telling anyone. >> it seems like they had a healthy relationship, which even begs more why did this happen. >> she told investigators she was depressed and her son wasn't happy either and she didn't want him to go through life without her. believe she tried to kill herself, too, but the gun jammed. we are staying on top of -- where police are searching for suspects of an armed armed robbery. >> carlo, the suspects bailed out of that car in that business plaza. but even after a massive search only one person is in custody tonight. >> and police still aren't telling us the name of that suspect. we tell us when that car crashed right here and came to a stop, he was the only one who

telling us they are not exactly sure what he will face as charges because the victim in this case isn't being cooperative. >> we spotted the young male victim of an apparent robbery and compass talking to detectives and even showing them the inside of the car he was allegedly pulled into. we learned he had hundreds of dollars stolen from his wall let, along with his shoes and cell phone. all 4 doors were open and the win shield wipers were still going when 3 male suspects bailed out and ran. this picture was sent to us of the suspects that stayed by the vehicle and was taken into custody. deputies searched by air for hours but they haven't found any of the alleged accomplices. this started near the steak and shake. the victim told police 4 males inside the car pulled up beside him and forced him in the

we are told this damage on the front of the car is from hitting other vehicles on to i- 4 where we found a third crime scene. detectives had to come to this rest area where they say an innocent driver had to pull over after a weapon allegedly used in the crime was thrown into their rear window. we tried to talk to the victim. he did not want to talk to us and as i mentioned he is not being totally forth coming with investigators either, according to police. we will keep you posted if we get update. we are going to stay on top of the search for the suspects clout the night. tonight a suspect in daytona beach last night is still on the run.

including 3 innocent girls. one was just 14 years old. police chief said the suspect is also the prime suspect in a murder last year but he says no one will help police prove it and the chief is not happy. >> until we take responsibility, we the people take responsibility, this stuff is going to keep flourishing. >> the parent of one student wrote a letter to the mayor months ago asking what is being done but the mayor did not respond. tonight the number of zika cases here is up to 32 and state officials say those cases include 3 pregnant women. they are not releasing the identities of those women but they say the cases are travel related and the babies of those pregnant women could be born with severe birth defects. new tonight a bill that was supposed to help the widow of an orange county deputy killed

caught up in a legal struggle. in the house that bill was attached to a pension bill and half. legal analyst who drafted the initial bill said it's politics as usual. >> it's just fundamental fairness to take care of people who take care of us. >> state representative who sponsored the scott pine provision of the house bill said their bill is a compromise that will make sure. we will be in contact with prosecutors to see if a -- will be charged with a crime. after a woman accused him of molesting her. state officials told us they could not stop the counselor

clinics because he is fighting the allegations in administrative court. tonight domestic violence victims now have a safer way to get away from their abusers. created this room with an emergency escape route. despite nearly 2000 injunctions being filed last year, the sheriff's office believes many more should have been filed but weren't. next week the city of orlando is expected to sell an old apartment complex. plans to sell this property for more than $1.2 million. a jacksonville developer will knock it down and put up new low income housing. >> we will have a community center here where there will be community meetings. we will also have a case manager here to help the residents become self sufficient. >> the prompt is expected to be

the developer plans to break ground by the end of the year. this is where some firefighters were exposed to asbestos and we have learned that the gear worn while they were inside that complex has been sent out for testing after signs of asbestos were found. earlier this month a firefighter called 9 investigates. we discovered a county report that showed the building had asbestos in it. they were prepping the building. orange county officials are now investigating. a governor has signed into law that closes a loophole. we found incidents where gunfire from backyard shooting ranges crossed property lines. the ranges were legal. now the new law bans people from firing guns recreationally in certain residential areas. violators could face up to a year in jail.

potential victim who received a threatening phone call stating to be from the irs. he says the person on the other end of the line told him he owed thousands in back taxes and knew his name and address. >> he kept saying, so you're not going to do anything. i said, no, i'm not. he said the t five-day fbi is going to come to your house. >> we want to remind you the irs will never contact you by phone. firefighters railroad moved out of this orlando because of a dangerous mold inside. i got answers on how they plan to keep people safe in an emergency. gusty winds dropping our windchill hour by hour tonight. just how cold it will be as you start your day tomorrow.

about 8 weeks. >> martha, i talked to a spokesperson who told me only 4 firefighters will be inside this fire station for shift. normally there are 10 and we learned there will only be 1 fire engine in for months. >> reached out for your safety after dangerous mold forced the city to move firefighters from station 8. we obtained this e- mail. he stated indoor air quality tests revealed mold in station 8. >> this is in a busy and growing area of orlando. the chief wasn't available for comment and we asked for pictures of the mold. we also learned the ladder truck is 5 1/2 miles away. that's when we asked about response times and this is the answer we got. the statement said in part, we

service areas while taking into account response times. also obtained the air quality report that states the department should act fast to remove the mold or it could spread. eyewitness news told you about fire station 9 because of mold and other firefighters complained of being sick because of it. that's when firefighters started the yearly tests. they started removing ceiling tiles, bedding and carpet monday after finding out the results of the report. >> now, i talked to that spokesperson and asked if any firefighter reported any sickness from this recent report but she said no and that the city is documenting every firefighter that went inside this building over the last year. we are live in or lands oh tonight. in orange county, it could be easier for drivers to get through hundreds of

we found out traffic management received a $3.3 million grant to optimize commute time. also hope to expand their signal system. >> that will allow us access to all the cameras that we have in the field. right now we have access to a handful of those cameras. >> traffic management said the changes could take some time because it is being done by the county. it is up to orange county voters to decide how taxes get spent. right now there's a short list of programs that get the money and no way to ask for funding. the proposed amendment would set up an application process. the plan requires one round of approval. now that the weather is clear tonight the weather radio system in daytona beach is back up.

an orange county commissioner wants to discuss a plan to help the homeless community. the center can house hundreds at a time. commissioner pete clark told us on average there were only about 60 inmates staying there so he wants to move them out and get the homeless in there in energy situations. >> that's what we are looking at right now. does it make sensor is it better to look somewhere else. >> clark has ordered a cost study and there's a team looking at other potential facilities to house the inmates. drivers in osceola county is one step closer to -- to complete a belt way around the county. the project can likely be split up into segments. drivers say they are fed up with the construction and congestion. >> annoying. a waste of gas because i'm just sitting in my car doing nothing. >> the first construction could
