the anchorwoman stepping from the news desk to the classroom to share vital stories from the past. an important black history month lesson on this friday, february 26th. >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." good morning. on what is really a busy friday morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm reena ninan. >> let's get started with the top story that deadly shooting incident in kansas. 38-year-old cedric ford went on a shooting rampage according to authorities in his town shooting at people and then storming a lawn mow manufacturing business where he worked. >> evers killed by police after taking the lives of three others and woundsing more than a dozen people with an assault style weapon. linsey davis has details. >> four people including the shooter are dead this shooting after a shooting at a company called excel industries. 14 others were injured in the gunfire.

order calling on the company to assist the fbi in unlocking the iphone of san bernardino shooter syed farook. the company claims the government is seeking what it calls dangerous powerses. apple's filing also says that the constitution for bids what the government is asking it to do. on capitol hill yesterday, fbi director james comey called the whole thing the hardest question that he's seen in government. >> i don't know whether there is evidence of the identity of another terrorist on the phone or nothing at all. but we ought to be fired in the fbi if we didn't pursue that lead. comey also countered apple's claim if software is yin po unlock the iphone it would put users everywhere at risk of hacking. he said that was not a legitimate concern. several companies plan to file a brief in support of and next week. jurors in. the erin andrews trial were with shown secretly recorded nude videoses of her. she left the croom right before

well, returning to our breaking story. a deadly workplace shooting at a lawn moor manufacturer in kansas. the gunman 38-year-old cedric ford he worked for the company. he opened fire outside, then went inside and continued firing. ford killed three people and wounded more than a dozen others before being shot and killed by police. police say that something triggered ford's attack but they haven't said what his motive could be. we'll stay on top of this breaking story. a former bp big rig supervisor has been found not guilty in a case lirked to the gulf of mexico oil spill in 2010. robert kalu sa was tried on a single misdemeanor charge of

prosecutors said that he and another rig supervisor botched a negative pressure test and missed clear signals of trouble before the explosion on the deepwater horizon rig. a very different verdict has been handed down by investigators in the case of a us airways jet crash as it tried to take off two years ago in philadelphia. >> at the time, the airline suggested it was a blown tire but now investigators are blaming pilot error. here's abc's david kerley. >> oh, my god, my plane. my plane just crashed. >> reporter: it was a scramble. >> the plane is on fire. >> reporter: for the 154 people to get off the jet. >> i see smoke down there. we're going to dispatch the emergency vehicles. >> reporter: this, after the four-second flight ended by slamming onto the pavement in march of 2014. first reports of a blown tire or landing gear trouble were wrong. it was pilot error. according to the ntsb the according to the ntsb, the pilots didn't input a piece of information into the flight computer. so, as the jet started to take off, warnings. the captain puts the nose down

all of the devastation here in lancaster, pennsylvania, still no injuries and no deaths. but a schoolhouse was leveled here, even so, workers believe gio benitez, abc news, lancaster, pennsylvania. they've capped a leaking gas line that sent flames shooting into the air. city workers were repairing a broken water main in an upscale residential neighborhood when their backhoe hit a gas line. that sparked a fire that engulfed the roof of one home. but firefighters were able to put it out quickly. a hospital in new jersey sent out an alarming letter to more than 200 former patients. they're being urged to get tested because they may have been exposed to hiv or hepatitis. a pharmacist who worked at shore medical center was arrested last month for drug tampering accused of stealing morphine and replacing it with saline. his blood may have come in contact with the patients. a major medical milestone in

updating our breaking story, a gunman's rampage in a small community in kansas. police say 38-year-old cedric ford fired on people from his vehicle before entering the lawn moor factory where he worked. a shooting spree left more than three dead and a dozen wounded. ford was killed by the first officer who responded. police believe something triggered his attack but aren't saying what his motive was. >> bill cosby has dropped a defamation lawsuit against supermodel beverly johnson who accused him of drugging her back in the 1980s. his lawyer says he wants to focus on the criminal case against him in pennsylvania. she says the suit against johnson will be refiled before the statute of limitations runs out. >> turning to history being made at the vatican, pope francis has made no secret about his affection for children.
