i'm here with pete docter, director of the award-winning film "inside out." >> we're so grateful to be here. it's been a long haul for us. five years and the film has been embraced around the world. it's so amazing to be here tonight. george: when parents talk to you about what their kids got out of this what do they generally say? >> we set out to just make a funny film that would hopefully relate to people. a couple of folks have said that they felt the film unlocked some new form of communication, that they were able to talk to their kids for the first time and that was beyond anything i couch imagined. george: is it going to be another three or four years before we see you again? because all your films take a long time to make. >> yeah, i would love if it was

orge: one of the stars of the best picture "spotlight," leave sleeber with naomi watts. there was a conversation going on in that theater over "spotlight" and i think it will continue. do you agree? >> i certainly hope so marty baron said in an article he wrote for the "washington post" that it's hard to walk out of that film and not feel reinvigorated about the potential of journalism. when tom sent me the script i called him immediately and said this is so timely and important that we remember what this is to our democracy. this is a very meaningful win for us and i hope as many people as possible see the film.

an army staff sergeant has been arrested for the murder of a virginia police officer. the officer was on her very first patrol. woodbridge officer ashley guindon was killed when she responded to a domestic family -- violence call at the home of ronald hamilton. he's also accused killing his wife before police arrived. hamilton is a sergeant assigned to the pentagon. guindon will be remembered today at her hometown in new hampshire. the parents of a critically injured teen in salt lake city are looking for answers this morning. the 17-year-old had a stick in his hand friday night when he was shot by police. investigators initially said police fired when the teen tried to attack them. now they say they're trying to figure out exactly what happened. the two officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras. >> new details in the fatal shooting of an ohio pastor in his office. police plan to charge his brother with murder. services were ending when shots were fired.

five years. the film has been embraced around the world. it's so amazing to be here tonight. >> i'm still very overwhelmed. i kind of look down and i just got my name on it. first i was like oh, this looks like an oscar. i can't really wrap my head around it. it's just wonderful and i'm so happy to be here with my fellow colleagues and hopefully go out and celebrate tonight. >> everyone who pays great money and goes away satisfied and wants to come back next year. we deliver the goods. >> i ran into harry connick junior and i turned into a 15-year-old girl and played with my hair a lot. he couldn't be more charming. > i got pretty star struck. with daniel day-lewis coming to this party when he won. i sort of lost the ability to speak and my husband thankfully was there and was able to speak on my behalf. >> it's funny to see celebrities get star struck. >> they still do. the parties are still on going at this hour.
