slammed into code gi garrick's car at the john young parkway early sunday morning. roy ramos looked into the suspect's background, you found out her license had already been revoked and she was scheduled to stand trial for fleeing from officers last year. >>reporter: on the driving record, i pulled she is listed as a habitual traffic o ferngsd we found citations that included dui, speeding and driving without a license. behind the wheel of that car, this mother says is a place that woman should have never been. >> she took away a piece of our family, a piece of our hearts. >> 23-year-old cody garrick family member s. >> it's heartbreaking, because she doesn't have a dad and everyone deserves a daddy. >>reporter: garrick was killed in a trash early sunday morning, 27-year-old syndia saint cyr ran a red light while fleeing from a deputy, who attempted to pull her over, for speeding.

saint cyr was travelling northbound on john young parkway when she approached this intersection, garrick was travelling eastbound headed back towards domino's pizza after a delivery when syndia saint cyr who was not supposed to be behind the wheel crashed into his vehicle, killing him. >> she took my son's life. she'd already run if the cops from before, she should never been out of jail, shouldn't have been on the roads. >>reporter: syndia saint cyr was denied bond for vehicular homicide and fleeing from laurpt. after i pulled her driving report, she had been cited in the past for driving under the influence, and can speeding and driving without a license. i also found this isn't the first time she has fled from the police. syndia saint cyr was facing a trial in april on charges of fleeing from the officers. >> i hope to god that her life is done and she stays in jail for the rest of her life. >>reporter: and i also did reach out to the orange county sheriff's office who said that deputy disenganged the pursuit.

allen grayson, he announced his support for sanders campaign. 376,000 democrats from around the country voted in grayson's online super poll. 86% of the vote. with marco rubio running for president, the race to fill his senate seat is getting more crowded, a close alley of governor rick scott is running for the seat. >> if my message doesn't resonate with the public, all the money in the world isn't going to -- >> multimillion their home builder talked to yns news. he has been a major donor to the republican party and to governor scott. but so far, scott who was said to be a close friend has not endorsed a candidate this the senate race. he is among a half dozen republicans now running for the seat. florida's senate primary is set for august 30th. disney ticket prices are about to go up, again, the theme park will charge guests based on the time of year that they go. during peak times, a ticket to the magic kingdom will cost

about four structures, two sheds or barns, and two home, i'm not far from aerial road here in oak hiel, you can see the smoke all around us, we're a few hundred yards from the fire that the florida forest service says is now about 8 acre, we're near a house right now, people told me that they're not too nervous because they've dealt with this before, but rer taking precautions, you can see this gentleman using a hose to wet down the perimeter of his yard, where the fire is getting close. he's not worried and that's why. you can see there are firefighters here, they're ready to go into action if they have to, you can see his home is not far away. but there are a lot of resources here, the volusia county fire department as well as the florida forest service and the new smyrna beach fire department. we'll go to sky witness now, you can see the fire from above, it's 8 acre, but it's a little breezy out here, they say it's moving very quickly, so they're trying to get around it as quick

officials with the florida forest service say they do have it under control. it is burning into marshy area, it will burn it's out -- itself out, but they are taking precautions and residents are taking precautions as well. we'll continue monitoring the area. channel 9 eyewitness news. all right. blaine, we'll get gak to you as necessary. state lawmakers have set their sights on giving governor rick scott more money than he requested to reduce potentially fatal interactions between humans and bears. in november, the governor had requested $230,000 to help pay and outreach programs. the house and senate are both more than that. lawmakers say the funding is important for the safety of humans and bears. but wildlife officials say there education. >> these cans are relatively expensive as well. it's not running down to lows and grabs one or two for your

three surgeries he's a victim of a tiny organism seen only in an aye microscope. >> i've cried over it and been angry over it, i've shaken my fist and says why a s this happening to me. >>reporter: the parasite thrives on contact lenses. too many patients are handling their contact lenses the wrong way. he says that the amoeba enters the eye and lit feed on it and it's excruciating. >> it starts living and growing in your cornea and you will know it because it's infiltrated along the nerves, and you will have pain like ten out of ten. >>reporter: the cdc published a report documents contact lens wearers risky behavior. 50 percent said they'd slept in their lenses. the amoeba lives everywhere, including color nighted drinking water -- chlorinated drinking water.

on a makeshift raft. the u.s. coast guard says 16 migrants r picked up on saturday by a legends of pittsburgh themed cruise. these pictures are from pittsburgh steeler james harrison's instagram page. he was one of several athletes on the ship. earlier this month, a disney cruise also rescued about a dozen stranded migrants. the count down clock will have a new home, these pictures from 2014 of crews taking the clock apart. the historic clock and the nearby flag pole are well known as the press site. the clock has been part of the kennedy space center since the moon landings 45 years ago. a beautiful day here in florida. >> we've had this crazy el nino pattern, a wet january, february has been a little drier, we've had stormy patterns, let me show you what it looks like with the

the last big el nino outbreak in 1998, we had the tornadoes here in february. we had fires in the summer. and this is something we have learned a lot of, a lot about, how to mitigate wise spread fires, and this is as you can see, kind of a wildfire we're watching over in oak hill, relatively small, but a sign wre dry. we picked up 1.7 inches of rain this month, this is not a month we generally get a lot of rainfall, we're drying than normal, but if we don't start turning things around here, el nino, generally gives us some drier weather, by the end of the winter and it can certainly mean a much more active fire season, once we get in late spring and early summer, temperatures warm back up again. the winds are on o shore and that again -- onshore and that again has been blowing the motor vehicle from the fire from the highway 1. you may see some of that from the i-95 area. downtown orlando, otherwise, we are gradually getting more daylight back, and couple of

-- as a police officer. jeff was in court when the judge pointed out jackson still hadn't admitted doing anything wrong. >>reporter: former bell isle police chief. the now convicted felon go intused himself before heading into federal court on three counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. jackson made bribes -- promoted him all the way up to command e giving him credentials and access to firearms, even though fdle insisted the felon wasn't allowed to be an officer or have a gun. in exchange, they believe jackson received more than $32,000 in the bribes. >> this is a rare instance of police misconduct at the highest level. >>reporter: all along, his defense claim the money was a loan, prosecutors say there was no evidence of that, based on the charges jackson faced a

but sentencing guidelines called for 5-6 year, the judge pointed out jackson has not admitted any wrongdoing, based on his years of service to the community he gave jackson just 4 years and allowed him to walk out today and turn himself into prison later. >> do you think you did anything wrong? >> i appreciate y'all 's concern, but i have no comment, thanks a lot. take care. >>reporter: the judge also said he would recommend that the bureau of prisons keep jackson in a low security camp, as for -- prosecutors say he left the country and now considered an international fugitive. some sanford neighbors helped the police catch a suspect who crashed a car into a home yesterday and took off. police si they were able -- say they were able to catch him after the neighbors chased him down. they had tried to pull him over about 10 minutes earlier, but he took uf and then crashed into that house on grand view avenue. he's facing charges of resisting an officer, leaving the scene of a accident and drug possession. volusia county deputies are

channel 9 eyewitness news continues right now at 6:00. >> and breaking right now, firefighters and forestry officials are battling a fas-moving wildfire that was near a couple of homes in volusia county. >> a live look from sky witness 9. the fire near oak hill quickly grew from 5-10 acres, blaine is live there, right now, and blaine, in the last few minute, you learned firefighters say that the nearby homes are no longer in danger. >>reporter: they are starting to get a handle on the fire out here, i'm standing near maple lane, that's near the aerial road at oak hill, and a few hundred yards this way is where the fire is, this is to our east. and residents in this area were not in a panic or anything like that, but they were out here taking precautions, we saw a man who lived here on this property, spraying the brush just along

because you can see how close his home is to the smoke that i just showed you. here, ou live truck parked there. and some residents in the area, again, taking precaution, but the officials say they where r wrapping things up. from sky witness 9, that's over the scene right now, this fire was moving very quickly, i was 8 ache -- it was 8 acres and threatened four structures, including two homes, but they say those homes are protected now they have a lot of resources and including the volusia county fire department. the florida forest service, new smyrna beach fire department in the area making sure that this fire does not get close to homes again. but now they think it's moving into a marshy area can and they have a handle on it and they are doing the mop up. we will give you updates. live in oak hill, channel 9
