>> we're still waiting to find out if the governor is going to extend voting hours tonight in orange county. all the frontrunners are in south florida tonight waiting for results. and we have a team of reporters there with him. we begin in orange county with mike manzoni. many of the polling places, some voters can't believe this is happening now in 2016. >> reporter: they were very, very angry. they're still angry because some of them have still within the past 60 minutes, i found out all of the 52 affected poling locations, that they now should have enough ballots for anyone behind me at elections officer, where they opened up a polling location to accommodate some of the people, they're still waiting on the

polling hours until 8:00. they ran out of ballots at this location. >> how do we run out of ballots? it doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: and how wasn't the only one when he will that way. >> i like to speak my voice. >> if you want to vote for your party favorite, you can't do it. >> reporter: the elections office says 52 presinges ran out of ballots because the numbers on the printer order form got mixed up. a worker showed up with boxes of ballots this afternoon. but for many voters, it was too late. >> how do we have a say in what happens in our government when we try to execute democratacy, and we're told sorry. >> reporter: the elections supervisor says anyone who missed their chance to vote can come to the elections office to get an absentee ballot up until

someone will handdeliver within. >> weave delivering that ballot to them so they can mark it, and we'll bring it back so they don't have to leave home or work. >> reporter: i also pressed the elections supervisor on how something like this even happens in the first place. and i asked what he's doing to make sure something like this doesn't happen again. i'll have that story for tonight at 6:00 . continuing our coverage tonight. they had brood problems there as well, affecting the mayor race. >> reporter: it's really the about. we were in precinct 220, voters still making their way into the polls right now. except

race. a very tight race right both will be staying here until the polls close tonight. that of coursing approval. >> i wasn't gonna wait. i had groceries. >> reporter: we caught up with mrs. frank on her second trip to vote for her candidate today. the first time? ballots. >> reporter: now they do. this is a sample ballot showing the mayor and district 3 candidate. and for at least a handful of voters, they could not bubble in their choice. they were given the option of using an express voting machine, but that came with a wait. mayoral candidates have been spent their last hours at the poles. now they're just hoping the voters will come back. an election worker called mrs. frank.

first full term election for mayor since scott vandergriff years. >> i think it's very, very poor planning on the supervisor. elections. >> it's not a good thing. we like to address that. hear that. that's not a good thing when people are wanting to vote. >> reporter: stills and johnson battled for mayor in a special election last year. this is a race where everyone vote does count. we'll be out here monitoring this race and let you know if those polls are extended by that hour tonight. more than two million florida voters cast earlier absentee ballots.

it's an increase from the 2012 presidential primary. >> i'm very pleased about that. and siknowledge we're gonna see ever increasing amounts of mail balloting and early voting as we go forward. >> the polls will be open until 7:00 tonight. as long as you are in line by that time, you'll be allowed to vote. by the end of the night, we'll probably know whether marco rubio has a future in this election. the hopeful has been expressing confidence that he has the sunshine state in the bag. so you asked what happens if rubio does win florida. >> reporter: it is a possibility. a slim one, but yes, it could happen. rubio getting 99 delegates and winning florida. that could happen here where he could take to that podium and declare victory. but with his coming in 3rd in most future contests, is there really

offshore breeze fuelling fires. at least five they could count . we're concerned about the smoke along the coast. roy ramos is a controlled burn got out of control over there. >> reporter: crews tell me that workers were out here burning large piles of prush. it's when the fire started to spread to this wooded area, they began to get very concerned. it burned this plastic, which is just feet away. >> reporter: residents watched as flames swept across ten acres of thick brush. firefighters with the help of brevard county

forestry worked to knock down the brush fire. >> they were doing some lane clearing. >> reporter: it is these dry conditions that made it for easy for the fire to spread. and with high winds in the area, it was protecting nearby accidents that were the primary concern of crews. >> nobody was closed down or anything. they did have to deal with a little smoke and all. >> reporter: firefighters said it came close to damaging the cocoa veterinary clinic. >> as long as they keep it on that side of the road, i'll be fine. i can't did anywhere until it's over w. >> reporter: and the department of transportation would be putting signs out by state road 424 to alert drivers of the smoky conditions and to keep

a kidnapping and ends with two crashes. >> those crashes shut down eastbound colonial drive near good homes road early this morning. and police believe it started with social media posts. >> reporter: two of the suspects are known. they worked for some kind of tax service business and lived in the second town home from the end. and recently police posted a photo of a pile of cash on a bed in instagram, and police are wondering if there's a connection. it was a mess, a crushed mercedes and krufrmelled nissan forced the shoot down early this morning. >> oh, my gosh. >> reporter: police say the suv was the getaway car in a home invasion from just a few blocks away at this town home. two men

partying at a strip club. they returned home with a young woman. five or six masked men were inside. two victims were tied up in the bathroom. one man was pistol whipped and kidnapped in his own car. >> the victims may have become a target because of the fact that they did tend to tell a lot of people that they had large amounts of cash in the house. >> reporter: the main getaway car was the silver suv . the driver had to be rushed to the hospital. moments later, another suv drove through and collided with the police cruiser. police found a handgun and drugs in the mercedes. >> this is the first time anything like this has happened. >> agents from a local drug task force told us the victims have friends that they believe

have any evidence the victims themselves are involved. as for the suspects, so far they have not been caught . thinking about changing their minds about allowing students to wear jeans to school. members are going over the union policy. school leaders are also thinking about changing their no pass no play policy. student athletes cannot play a sport if they fail a class. the new proposal would allow athletes to keep playing as long as they have a 2.0 grade point average

universal is giving us a sneak peek at the new king kong ride. for the first time in universal history, it will not navigate on any type of track. officials say it will be the longest ride of any universal attraction. it will open this summer. legoland announcing expansions to the water park and legoland beach retreat. there will be a new 4d theatrical attraction and a new summertime event. the night lights events will start in june.

there's some sea fog along the west coast that will start to migrate inland. and between 2:00 and 9:00 am, we'll be watching for smoke. these are where fires are ongoing right now. we had this issue in polk county last year where we had a deadly crash on i-4 when smoke and fog combined in the early morning hours. be careful of that combination. very nice beach weather again tomorrow. back in the upper 80s. 89 orlando. very close to 90. 89 clairemont. 89 sanford. as far as rain, nothing for tomorrow. toward thursday, watch the clouds in the morning, and a chance for showers developing in the afternoon. a 20% rain chance for tomorrow. we will up that to 40% to 50% rain coverage. we need the rain for friday and saturday. also cooling down so much it's gonna be much more like an ordinary march toward next week.

a city commissioner is fired up because trees that were never supposed to be touched got cut down. workers went ahead with orders, and this wasn't much that this commissioner could do to stop them. >> reporter: and she didn't stop them. this area right here is really a public and private partnership.

were cut down are actually on private property. but there are questions about what that really means, because this area really is called the trail easement. it was supposed to be on the city and the developer had a say in what happened here. commissioner sheehan was on her daily run this morning when she saw this. tree trimmers hacking away at old oak trees she thought she helped protect. she halted the project and called city hall. she found out the trimmers had a permit issued by the city itself. the developer is making way for a dog park. but she says it was a mistake by city staff to allow it. >> this is a shared situation. for them to come and say we're gonna take out all your shade trees, that wasn't the deal. >> reporter: a city between the developer years ago was that the developer had to maintain the

she isn't doing that either. and look at garbage piled up. code violations were issued today. as for the tree, she halted that project for an hour or two. but the deal she says is on paper couldn't save these trees. by 2:30, trimmers were back at it again. they took both trees that were rotted and took them all the way to the ground. >> reporter: public and private deals together can be awfully tricky. part of the problem would be that the developer here isn't the same one that signed that agreement back then. now we're waiting to talk to that developer and let you know what they say. and our team coverage of tonight's florida primary is far from over. >> we'll did back to south florida to find out why hillary

a woman facing serious charges after police say she crashed into a school bus packed with kids. why investigators say that crash is now the least of her worries. >> that 21-year-old suspect took off from the scene. >> they found her a short time tree. mel, they told you the injuries weren't serious, but the charges are. >> reporter: they told me as soon as this suspect left the scene, this became a criminal case. >> reporter: 21-year-old ashley steerington is facing charges after she first crashed this
