in a couple hours or so, they'll get back on that aircraft that landed here and head to their base in north carolina. i spoke with several, they are super excited to be back for thanksgiving. there was a lot of wheeling and dealing that had to go on to get them back home in time, but it looks like they're going to make it, and as you might imagine, they're absolutely thrilled. we will hear from some of the soldiers who just landed a little later on in the newscast. that's the latest reporting >> a local boy scout troop that reported their trailer stolen now has a new one. a troop from norwood got a new trailer, they reported theirs missing back in august. norwood police say the trailer was stolen from a u-haul nearly 20 years ago, it ended up in the troops hands overtime. police learned the trailer was never actually stolen, it was just u-haul repossessing their property. >> vanessa: a skeleton of a cow uncovered in plymouth could hold the key to learning more about pilgrims. a team of umass boston researchers says the bones found

5:19 pm
we've been tracking this since it was born in the rockies, that sound like a commercial. born in the rockies, and moving into the middle of the country with snow, rain, and ice. now, it's still producing snow in the northern reaches of the u.s., michigan, upper peninsula of michigan, and the glove side, as well as into western new york, and pennsylvania. and this is becoming more prominent too. when we first started talking at 4:00 p.m., there's a little bit of this. now it's widening and the reason is, this storm is moving east. the warm air is riding up over the cold air, so the snow the rain is not moving east, the know is getting more and more. so what we were talking about here is a warm front trying to make its way on in here and not doing a good job of it. so that's my concern for tomorrow. no, it's not going to be a big storm, we're not going to have a lot of snow or ice around here. just takes a little bit to cause problems. that's what i want you to be concerned about. 34 in worcester right now. so you know the temperature is going down below freezing easily, probably before we're
5:20 pm
10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. boston, getting close to freezing at the airport tonight, this is the east boston temperature. now in the back bay, it will be freezing overnight. 32 degrees. 28 out there in the suburbs and 20's off to the north and west. look at this. low to mid 20's. so when anybody precipitation falls in that kind of an air mass, it has to be something frozen or freezing. if it's frozen, it's a snowflake, if it's freezing, it's a raindrop that freezes on contact. the way the as it first moves in, in the morning, it would be snowflakes over the interior. you're not seeing it in the futurecast data. sometimes the computer models don't pick up in the light precipitation activity, but when you have warm air moving up above and a little kicker in the atmosphere, which we're going to have, sliding on through, that's the warm front, you're going to get light precipitation, there will be flurries here and there will be some drizzle, the closer into the coastline you get. now, southeastern massachusetts, it will be warm enough that it's just going to be raindrops, but north and west, you'll have some
5:21 pm
some of the higher elevations, that's about it, but my bigger concern is with temperatures being so cold in the morning, anything that falls can make it slippery in a couple of spots. just be aware of it as you're traveling especially going off to the north and west along route 2 out to worcester county and the berkshires through the mass pike. by the evening, that's when the rain starts to arrive in more earnest. there will be showers around here, even a steadier batch of rain. this too, north and west of 495, we have to watch for those temperatures, which will only make it to the upper 40 degrees for highs, to actually fall back through the 30's and we'll have to watch for spotty ice. going northward, ski area getting more snow. around freezing in morning with the slight risk of some flurries or some freezing precipitation through the 30's in the afternoon, but getting to the 40's mostly for high temperatures, those 30's were kind of around that, so getting to 30's by lunchtime and dropping into the 30's by dinnertime. 40's, but only upper 30's back there for your high temperature. seven-day forecast shows the

5:31 pm
rather than going -- staying just a little snow and changing over to rain, it just keeps growing. and that's because the warm air is not making its way northward or eastward either. we are going to be in the cold air as the precipitation arrives in the morning. temperatures right now are in the 30's to near 40, even 41 in norwood. these will be falling and we'll be tracking that. it is going to be light precipitation. flurries or even some freezing drizzle. and that's something we're going to talk more about in just a few minutes. the good thing problems resulting from the weather on roadways. heather hegedus has been tracking that for us this evening. >> vanessa: what a difference a day makes, kevin, because last night when julie was here, we were tacking about massive traffic backups because of not only rush hour, but thanksgiving holiday, early commuters, but tonight, a much different story. if you can wait until after 8:00 p.m., things are really good and tomorrow night and tomorrow afternoon, great time to head out to your loved ones. you can see a ton of green on

breaking news in waltham, a scary scene outside of a hannaford's supermarket, a store employee struck by a car, while collecting shopping carts. the victim is now in the hospital, along with the driver of the car we're told. we're also told, a woman was backing out of a parking spot, when she hit the employee. her car and some shopping carts then struck two other vehicles. we have a reporter, malini basu, in that parking lot, and we have a live report coming up at 6:00 p.m. >> vanessa: a little girl arrived at the hospital, barely able to walk. now, one day before thanksgiving, she' home. fox 25 was there today for the sendoff. >> mark: that's right. new at 5:30 p.m., heather hegedus joins us now with her story and what will be a very special day tomorrow for her entire family. >> the reporter: indeed, mark. 10-year-old girl has a rare polio-like illness, but after spending two months in the hospital, being discharged just in time for thanksgiving is just what the doctor ordered. 10-year-old paulinea lopez of
