6:18 pm
the precipitation is and that's because of the storm and the air moves eastward, warm air goes up over the cold air, and produces precipitation that falls into the cold air, as snow. we're seeing it here as well. so front is like this. the snow to the east and north of it with the rain to the south and west, although there's mixing when you get into the elias elevations here in -- elevations in pennsylvania. precipitation playing a part and it will here in new england too. we are not looking at a snowstorm on most ever in boston on thanksgiving is 4 1/2 inches. we're not looking like anything that way. but we are watching for some new sans precipitation in the morning. in my mind, there's no doubt there are going to be flurries tomorrow morning. that precipitation coming in from the west as light as it may be with the warm front in this cold air mass, has to produce snowflakes. novelty flakes for most. some places in the high elevations and maybe grassy coatings. perhaps impacting your thanksgiving day football game with that grassy coat willing,
6:19 pm
what we will be watching for with the cold temperatures back here and they are going to continue to fall, for instance, north of worcester at wachusett going down into the 20's overnight tonight, staying dry as far as futurecast is concerned, but saying this too many times, it's going to stay dry, particularly what we're seeing out to the west of us. temperatures getting down to freezing in boston, right at the water maybe a degree or two above freezing. notice precipitation working in and whether it does, falling into this air mass, we're talking about mainly inland. light snow. i guess that. we're not talking about accumulating, shoveling out your driveway on thanksgiving kind of snow, but even futurecast shows nothing here, until you get up here, i expect that snow stripe will be farther south. it was last night on future cast, and for whatever purpose, it doesn't see it today. i still do. there will be light snow falling into worcester county. at the coast, likely be drizzle that will fall especially in eastern and southeastern massachusetts. that all pushes off to the north and southward toward late
6:20 pm
what i do agree were the futurecast is this. the rain moving in later in the day with a more potent part of the storm system coming at us. we see that to the west and we'll see it here. here's the other part of this problem. who have to the north and west, temperatures are only going to be in the upper 30's for highs hand they'll be falling as the rain falls in evening. we'll have to watch for some icing here. snow in ski country by the way for thanksgiving weekend. here's seven-day forecast, takes you through that threat on thanksgiving, and another threat coming in to this weekend, something we've been we'll see rain and snow working its wave in here saturday and sunday, predominantly light and that's because the storm system is it making its way toward us, but too far out to sea to be a big player. what i'm watching to see if anything is going to form in this part of the pressure pattern. that's a signal to me to watch it very closely, if it forms closer, we'd have to deal with more ramifications from that storm system. lots to look at and talk about and we'll keep talking through evening on the newscast. >> mark: saluting some american heroes.
6:21 pm
time for holidays, but first, let's send it out to butch stearns. butch? >> the reporter: the turkey day forecast might be iffy for tomorrow, but not tonight in

6:25 pm
overhead in westwood, xavarian field, st. john's prep and xavarian for turkey night football. hawks get on the board first. senior quarterback madison cronene takes it in himself and it is 7-0 xavarian. going into score again, number 33, pinchin, fumbles and look at number 5, west rocket, aptly named, st. john's defensive back picks it up and goes 9 score. the extra point was no good. that makes it 7-6 xavarian on top. that's where we are right now in the third quarter. don't forget to join us tomorrow night, 10:30 p.m. live for our thanksgiving day high school football special. we'll be covering 16 different games, we'll be looking at the high school playoff format and some of the controversy surrounding that, we'll relay it again at 11:30 p.m., tomorrow night for our fox 25 high school

been taken to the hospital after being hit by a driver, backing out of a spot at hannaford's in waltham. that driver also hit several other cars and was rushed to the hospital. >> vanessa: burr as you can imagine on a busy night like this, when so many people are picking up last minute items for thanksgiving, it could have been much worse. fox 25's malini basu live on the scene for us talking to witnesses. malini? >> the reporter: vanessa and mark, it was a packed shopping lot right here, just like it is right now. we're being told once again, two people were taken to the car, the other is a person collecting carriages. that scene unfolded right over here. all of this happened just after 4:00 p.m. i want to show you, sky fox was over the scene, all of this happened at the hannaford's supermarket just after 4:00 p.m. on russell street in waltham. fire officials tell fox 25, the woman driving the black chevy was backing out of a parking spot. she kept going and going and she didn't stop. officials say she backed into about five other cars, and then
6:31 pm
now, investigators say the employee kept trying to get up and say, i need to make a phone call. now, witnesses tell us that employee was lucky because some of the carriages were crushed by the car. >> i see like where the cards are collected on top of a car. one car is totally smashed. the one in front of it looks like it was hit and turns out that the person that was put in the carts away was actually dragged when the car came in, but they're ok, thank god. >> the reporter: so again, two people were taken to the hospital. they are ok. investigators here say this really could have been quite a scene, but luckily, again, everything turned out to be become. at 10:00 p.m. tonight, we spoke to some of the other owners of the cars, they were in there shopping and they came outside to find their car damaged. for now, live in waltham, malini basu. fox 25 news. >> mark: also breaking a local defense attorney is now accused of rape and it's not the first time he's been charged with a sex crime.

6:35 pm
to be ok but i'm watching the situation developing to our west that will move in tomorrow. it will be cold out there as this storm system starts to arrive and on leading edge of it, it's not just rain, if it were, that would be a minor problem and really, this is going to be minor too. but for anybody who gets some of the flurries in the cold air, maybe a couple tricky spots off to the north and west. in the highest elevations especially in worcester county, may even get a coating on the grassy surfaces before it's said and done. clearly not much but it is thanksgiving the roadways going to thanksgiving dinner. i want you to be aware of that potential. there may be drizzle along the coastline. temperatures though inland, especially are going to be very cold. but even to the coast, it's going to be freezing first thing in the morning. so i have expect many will see some of those snow flurries first thing. the heavier snows will be pushed to the north, into mountains and ski country where they need to be. what we're looking at right now is watching the latest information come into show me exactly what threat is going to be and where it will be tomorrow. i have that right now and i'm

and that's what makes this a tricky forecast, because this storm system moving toward us, certainly moving into some cold dry air. whether or not the snowflakes make it to ground level is one question, but the real question to me is how long it's going to take for that to happen. you see, we have to moisten up or make the air wetter over the top of us. no doubt, with the leading edge of this with our cold air there would be snow falling at least up above us and as that makes it down to ground level the highest elevations have the best chance temperatures the way they are and falling from here, already below freezing offer to the north and west, keene new hampshire, 29 degrees an low temperatures going down below freezing, even to freezing in boston, low to mid 20's so the north and west. as this moves in, we're going to see some flurries. just the way it works. you get some warm air to start to come in, it rides up over the top of the cold air, and it falls out of the clouds that are formed as some snowflakes. so the question will then be, as i mentioned, will it make it all the way down to ground level.
6:49 pm
into the high elevations. my thoughts are, there's almost certainly going to be some flurries here in southern new england. especially in the high elevations and it won't be very much. but there can be some grassy surfaces, they got coated, we saw that a few days ago. couldn't not happen again, so there will be some drizzle at the coast, flurries inland, and none of it will be very heavy. temperatures so cold first thing in the morning, you have to watch out for slippery spots to the north and west. evening hours, better shot more snow for the key areas an certainly good news for the thanksgiving weekend. the showers will come on by and start to become more of a drizzly situation by friday morning, an onshore flow, spin in the atmosphere going by, bottom line is, friday is not starting out so good and by the afternoon, not much happening to break that up either, so i'm getting levels optimistic for any sunny breaks on friday. the seven-day forecast has them in there, but i'm going to have to revise that later on tonight.
6:50 pm
10:00 p.m. an 11:00 p.m. before i have dash your hopes for black friday. saturday, another storm system handled here's the deal with that. there's going to be another storm that forms offshore, and our different computer models are showing this and of course, we have to go by the computer models, because the storm doesn't exist yet, but here it is starting to form out here and here's my thoughts on this. there's a center out here. you see that circle, that's where the low pressure is forecast to be, low pressure meaning a storm center. however, when i see a bigger circle around it like this, i start to think, could there be a redevelopment closer and you see how in here, that's what i'm watching. if a storm forms closer to us, it would pull down the blue line, which is the cold air farther south of new england, we would have to entertain the thoughts of rain or snow by the end of the weekend from that storm system. then no doubt early next week, another storm lined up to come on in here, see that happening tuesday with some showers, and again on wednesday, two batches that would come on by. it will come with warmer air. that's definitely going to be a rain situation. what we'll be watching tonight is this storm center moving in
