80 miles per hour at 1:00 in the morning back on august 31 when he rear ended the hutle. investigators say bierbalm's blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit. police are searching for the driver of this horrific hit-and-run accident in brockton that left a man in extremely critical condition. >> reporter: you can see the victim crossing the street with a group of friends when he was struck by a speeding car that was all caught on surveillance outside of the bar where that h outside the bar in brockton where police have actually recovered the carjack but are still looking for the driver. >> they recovered that car on saturday night, and they tell us that the victim crossing this stretch of north main street in brockton right after leaving a bar at night. this morning his family is from cape verte and they tell the enterprise that's in completely critical condition and is now braindead. >> reporter: stunning moment

struck head-on. fox 25's jason law joins us with more on the call she made to 911, jason. >> jason: yeah, sara. taylor mcbarron was on her way home to barnstable when she was hit head-on. she is still in the hospital recovering, she surprised us when she considers this the best thanksgiving ever. >> i was just so happy that, you know, i didn't -- >>reporter: hard to even put into words how this crash on route 495 early thanksgiving morning could have ended. the phone from her hospital bed, she focused on how this could end. she was in this white suv headed from college in fitchburg to a home in barnstable at 2:00 in the morning on thursday after a waitressing shift when 22-year-old james keating of norton was driving the wrong way and hit taylor head on. he died at the scene. taylor never lost consciousness. >> i was still in the fast lane after the crash because that's where i ended up and

not stopping, and i didn't know if anyone else had known, so i -- i called 911. >>reporter: at the hospital, taylor learned she suffered a severely broken ankle and broken pelvis and cuts and bruises. her friends learned she was the one involved in the crash they have seen on the news. >> definitely very shocking. >> reporter: for taylor's best friend emma mcman. >> we are as close as you can possibly be as two separate people. >> reporter: very upsetting sheets up a go fund me account to pay for her bills because she won't be able to work for several months. >> i can't help you put your bones together. i can't make you feel better physically but hopefully this will make her mentally and emotionally. >> it has made things easier. >> reporter: it had allowed her to focus on her recovery. >> most of taylor's rehab and recovery will take place on the cape and because of that

her final semester. the young man killed in the crash. keating is the sixth student to die since april. the senior was a football player at the university. the investigation continues this morning why exactly he got on the wrong said of the road. in the newsroom, jason law, fox25 morning news. three young children have been taken from mare mattapan apartment after their mother was found dead inside. responded to the call on bismarck street. they thought they were responding to a home invasion but quickly found out that was not the case. officials arrived to find the door open. >> a few of the relatives haven't heard from her and they are the ones that forced the door. it wasn't a home invasion. it looks like they forced the door. they went in and found the young lady. >> kids were checked out at the hospital and they are expected to be okay. police do not suspect foul play in the woman's death. they are awaiting the results
