police chief says the armed robbery happened before 4:00 this morning, and a violent struggle ensued between the male suspect who had his hands in his pockets and claimed he was armed and the clerk. the chief says the clerk was not hurt. the suspect on the other hand started walking down the block on the lynnway here between commercial and shepherd streets which does remain closed at this hour and police responded to that scene. the chief says that when the 2 who again claim to be armed, started coming at the officers. then the chief says the officers tried to maintain distance, keep backing up and backing up but when the suspect refused and did not remove his hands from his pockets, the chief says 1 of the officers ended up discharging his firearm, shooting his gun, hitting that suspect. that suspect is now in surgery at mass general hospital. the 2 officers involved in the
