scene, this video we shot here, within the last two and a half hours or so. fire officials on the scene tell fox 25, a firefighter and another person, was taken to the hospital. now at this hour, it's unclear how serious their injuries are. that fire started just around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon on east lawrence and prospect streets, right here in lawrence. now, officials tell us at least 20 people have within displaced from the triple decker home, now again, many people were told to evacuate, their homes were -- most of the residents were not home when this happened and just a couple of minutes ago, we spoke with the mayor. >> everyone is accounted for. no fatalities. one woman who lived there, had issues with her heart, but again, accounted for in good condition and we're so fortunate to have our guys on the spot. we have five communities backing us up. >> the reporter: again, back out here live, we are being told to

and the woman are doing. you heard from the mayor, there are no fatalities. everything is unfoley familying, we'll be out here and update you at 6:00 p.m. we are live in lawrence, malini basu, fox 25 news. >> mark: we're also following breaking news in methuen. state police tell us one person was hit by a car and killed. the victim watts riding a bike on the ramp from interstate 495 to route 110. the investigation is causing traffic issues there right now. the exit ramp just reopened about ten minutes ago. witnesses tell the "eagle-tribune," the driver of a heavy truck tried to leave people told him that he hit someone. >> vanessa: we are under a weather alert tonight. rain started moving in late this morning, and it has not stopped. you can see here, some people had to pull out their umbrellas in kenmore square. the radar tonight is covered in green and yellow. fox 25 storm tracker chief meteorologist kevin lemanowicz and kevin, the evening commute is really being impacted tonight. >> kevin: no doubt about it. it's bad enough around boston to begin with, but you factor in the rain, we saw it happening early today, an there is some

the north here, up through the route 2 area here, this takes you out to the northwest of boston, you see woburn in the picture there, some heavy rain right along some of the local roadways, along 2a, lexington is back here, give you an idea where we are, and then to the south and west of there, out to worcester county, we're finding heavy rain through the city of worcester and northward towards shrewsbury, this takes you awe long 140, and then the mass pike right out through the stretch. there's 290, heavy rain in and around route rain. northward, not so much in lowell, but nashua getting some rain coming down hard and then it's snow and ice in northernmost new england and oh, by the way, we're doing this all again tomorrow. to our south, a developing storm system this has tornado watches associated with, that has its eyes on new england as well. a timeline on when you can expect that to arrive coming up. >> vanessa: be sure to stay up-to-date with us no matter where you are with the fox 8 live weather app. -- with the fox 25 weather app, you can get weather alerts as

will be back with the full forecast in a minutes. >> vanessa: a deadly shooting on lynn way. traffic was backed up for hours after police responded to a call for an armed robbery at this gas station and ended up shooting land killing the suspect. fox 25's crystal haynes live at that gas station, where the investigation, crystal, still in the early stages. >> the reporter: vanessa, i can tell you that po suspect engaged in a violent struggle with the clerk inside this golf station, before he fled. they caught up with him. tonight, like you said, that suspect is dead, and area store managers are concerned about their employees' safety. i think it's a very sad story. whenever everything like this happens. >> the reporter: an armed robbery suspect is dead, and two lynn police officers are expected to be interviewed by the essex county district

shooting on the lynnway early this morning. >> the individual had his hands in his pockets, the officers ordered him to show his hands, refused to do so, continued to come at the officers, they moved back, tried to create distance, eventually one of the officers fired his weapon. >> lynn police say the suspect fled from this gulf station on commercial street, after he allegedly walked into the store with his hand in his pocket, claiming he had a gun intending to rob the place. and then, the clerk reacted. the clerk of the store. >> that's wrong. like just like giving whatever they need, be safe and call the cops. >> the reporter: denny manages the shell across the street from the armed robbery, and he says, they're not uncommon in the area. >> i feel bad for the next door. i would advise to get, like a service window during the overnight shift. >> the reporter: now, the district attorney's office says

suspect, and then they're going to notify family. coming up at 6:00 p.m., we talk again with other store managers in this area, and i can tell you that this is the second police offensive coordinator shooting in lynn in the last two months. -- police involved shooting in lynn in the last two months. we're learning how they investigate situations like that. >> mark: this man turned himself in to police saying he's responsible for a hit-and-run in brockton. of the victim diedfr fox 25's stephanie coueignoux is live outside the spot bar and lounge, where that hit-and-run happened. the suspect's relatives tell you, he's a good guy. >> the reporter: yeah and i was speaking with one of his relatives this afternoon, and he told me that milton calls this a good guy, someone who absolutely loves his family. prosecutors say he admitted that he was driving down north main street right here, when he hit sergio lacone and kept on going.

morning, milton stood before a judge today in brockton district court, charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. sergio lacone, who was critically injured in the hit-and-run, was taken off live support early monday morning. in court today, the defense told the judge after hitting lacone, guncall panicked, but turned himself in two days later, because he wanted today do what was right. >> he was unable to sleep the entire weekend leading station -- going down to the police station. >> the reporter: gonecall is married and a father of four children, who are between 8 and 14 years old. >> all i know is he's a good guy. and he's my friend. also, he knows my family. >> the reporter: prosecutors saigoncall admitted on tape to hitting lacone with this jaguar and then driving home. >> he stated it happened very fast and that he struck the person and proceeded to panic andreoff home. >> the reporter: prosecutors

gonecalls removed the license plate from the car, claiming he needed to return it too the car's owner. the car's owner told police, that never happened. his relatives say they all support him. >> i know his kids also. good people. that's all i have to say now. >> the reporter: gonecalls is now being held on a $10,000 cash bail and as can you imagine, this is extremely difficult for lacone's family. hi still in honduras. now i did speak with one of his friends and coming up at 6:00 p.m., the reason he says lacone moved here to brockton. in brockton, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> mark: investigators are searching for clues in the death of a local man, shot in his home. the victim was found early this morning at a home on thornton street in manchester, new hampshire. there were reports of shots fired in the area just after midnight. the name of the man has not been released. >> vanessa: a new hampshire day care is closed tonight.

found alone on the side of a busy road. this happened in lee, the child crossed the street and was found on an on-ramp. robert goulston live with us tonight with reaction from the boy's mother. robert. >> the reporter: vanessa, yeah, that 3-year-old boy made it across this busy street and about 75 feet up this highway ramp, the mother telling us, she picked up the boy a few hours later at the day care, but nobody told her. locals cannot believe that toddler made it this far. it even has the locals in disbelief. >> thank god nothing happened. >> the reporter: lee new hampshire police say a 3-year-old boy walked away from his day care and ended up playing basketball. she says her sons has down's syndrome, so he can't communicate easily, but she is so thankful a man driving by stopped and helped him. he walked out on to this busy

highway. the day care, his angels learning academy, voluntarily shut down right after the incident, but the boy's mother telling us, the day care never told her what happened, even when she picked him up that day. she ace sherbinski ex-husband was first notified that her son was no longer allowed at the day care, because he was a safety concern. it wasn't until the police called that they found out what really happened. one local telling us, the road the boy crossed is treacherous. >> traffic on 155, it's 40 miles an hour, and there's hills they exceed 60 sometimes, so you know, i'm kind of amazed that nothing drastic happened. >> the reporter: the state telling us, the center voluntarily closed on november 23rd, the department is aware of the incident in question, and is conducting an investigation to determine whether future action is warranted. the man who found the boy told us when he alerted the day care about the child they found, they had first told him they were not missing any one. the day care is a pretty good distance from the intersection

people in central square this morning, including state norm jamie eldridge of acton. hundreds of workers and their supporters gathered outside of a mcdonald's for what they have called an act of civil disobedience. >> mark: at logan airport, nonunion airport workers also head a protest, they also want a minimum wage of $15 an hour as well as union rights. >> vanessa: the legalization of recreational marijuana in massachusetts may be de secretary bill galvin said the results of the bloat question legalizing marijuana still has to be certified by the council. the council may not certify the results until the end of the year. galvin explains why it may take another year before enforce are licensed to sell legalized marijuana in stores. the tuesday after thanksgiving

organizations are hoping you'll pay it forward. heather hegedus spent the day with people who are giving back. >> the reporter: mark and vanessa, you know bostonians are for for giving back, even just donating $5 to giving blood, to volunteering, there are still plenty of ways to give back right now. during a season focused so much on spending, with black friday and cyber monday, giving tuesday has become a way to put that money to meaningful use. at the greater boston employees taking time out of their busy day, sorting food headed to food pantries and soup kitchens. >> a couple hours really goes a long way for people that need it. >> the reporter: hashtag, giving tuesday, trending all over twitter and organizations are using social media to make their cases for why you should donate to them. john hancock is asking for donations for people running for charities in next year's marathon, and the organization founded in memory of marathon

merit, mr8. giving tuesday was created four years ago by a cultural center in new york city, as an unofficial kickoff to the charitable giving season. >> this is a time, particularly in the winter, when people are choosing between eating and paying their heating bills, that the need increases. >> the reporter: four years after its creation, organizations are setting their giving tuesday fund raising goals high, the jimmy fund, the fund raising arm for dana farber in boston, says four years ago, they didn't even s today, their goal is to raise 1 million dollars, just on this one day, and while that may sound like a lot of money, that's actually only a small portion though of the money that they raise in a year. >> that's a lot of money, but we do raise over $200 million per year, at dana farber and that's through all of our events. >> the reporter: last year, an estimated $46 million was raised for charities worldwide because of giving tuesday, an many local organizations have matching donation programs going on right

take an umbrella. worcester, holden, north of the city of worcester all of the local streets being affected. 122a and route 12, 190 stretching right through that portion of worcester county, and to the north shore, we're seeing heavy rain here too. ipswich to manchester by the sea and cape ann gloucester, seeing some of the heavy rains. south shore, you're not out of it. plymouth, marshfield, all seeing heavy rain, stretches into carver and out to cape cod. over to falmouth, seeing some heavy rain on the west shoreline here, seeing some of that rain in west falmouth, and southward to nantucket, you're getting heavy rain too. didn't need me to tell you that if you're on nantucket. this system is coming on through and moving out of here through the night. then we get a break. weather in the deep stout is pushing toward us tomorrow. temperature continues to arrive in fitchburg. when i arrived before 2:00 p.m., it was 35. pittsburgh is up to 39.

this is where that cold hair likes to sit and that's why northern worcester county, that route 2 corridor, was always the issue, a potential issue for freezing rain this morning, when we were talking yesterday, ended up being icy in some spots this morning because of that. now, it's warm enough, barely, but warm enough for it to just be rain and through tonight, we'll see that heavy rain move on out. by the time i'm talking to you during our 11:00 p.m. newscast, last of the rain moving off of cape cod. in the morning there will be fog and still some clouds in spots, but also some breaks of sun. to come on in, and another batch of rain for tomorrow evening's commute, going to be a mess just like this one and guess what, thursday morning, you're still dealing with it here especially in eastern massachusetts, before it slides on by, we finally get some drying in here, so travel conditions are bad enough now, will be bad enough again tomorrow afternoon and thursday morning. the only break for travelers will be tomorrow morning. high temperatures tomorrow, in and around the boston area, are going to be around 50. braintree, 51. brockton, 52.

>> vanessa: tonight, brazil's president is declaring three days of official mourning after dozens of people were killed in a plane crash. >> mark: black boxes have been found, which will provide investigators with information as to what exactly went wrong. a charter plane was carrying a brazilian championship soccer team when it went down >> the reporter: rescue workers and first responders combing through the wreckage of a charter flight that crashed in colombia, late monday night, killing at least 70 people, including almost all of the members of a championship soccer team from brazil. en route to colombia for a south american soccer tournament. >> we are supporting with all the neighboring municipalities, with all the logistical matters needed, emergency medical staff,

torrential downpour right now. worcester, a bit of a break, but northward along route 12, up through boylston, west boylston into shrewsbury on 290, seeing heavy rain. this takes you to the north shore, cape ann, you're getting it now. gloucester and rockport, both in some of this heavy rain. it's not everywhere, but in some spots it's coming down hard along 127 and 128. to the south, plympton, middleboro, 495 getting drenched right now. soaking rain out here on cape cod falmouth just a little while ago. let's go in to this part of cape cod. this is craigville beach, going to the east of there into hyannis and hyannisport where the rain is. coming down hard. so to the south and west is our next batch of rain. it's already producing severe weather, not even connected to the storm we have now, but that's ours tomorrow. i'll have a timeline on that just ahead. >> mark: count on fox 25, fox25boston.com to bring you updated information throughout the night on this weather alert. you can also download the fox 25

updates. >> vanessa: developing right now, racing wildfires are burning across the south and in just the last hour, we learned at least three people have died it tennessee. >> mark: hundreds of buildings have been destroyed near the great smoky mountains today. the mayor of gatlinburg, tennessee, people are basically running for their lives. firefighters are trying to contain more than a dozen fires. >> the reporter: out-of-control wildfires forced thousands to flee. some evacuees have to drive through the flames to get more than a dozen fires threatened the great smoky mountains of eastern tennessee, but instead of seeing the serene mountainside, people feel hot flames and stinging smoke being pushed by strong winds. winds. winds. >> the power went out, it was so dark, our eyes were stinging, we grabbed a blanket and took off running. >> we watched the building go down if flames to the right of us and we pulled in front of

fire but the fireman came and got us. i thanked him so much. >> the reporter: the fire is damaging or destroying homes and businesses. >> personally, i think i've lost my house, but you know, things can be rebuilt. >> it's difficult to go out this to a community and try to protect and serve others when your own property and everything that you've worked for is burning down but that's what these men and women have done for the last 24 hours. >> the reporter: as the firefighters fight the flames, those in shelters >> the things i've known probably done exist anymore. i just close my eyes and have that memory in my heart. pray for us, that's the one thing i know that will work. god will take care of the rest. >> the reporter: i'm mary maloney reporting. >> vanessa: new at 5:30 p.m., a massachusetts woman serving a life sentence for murder is asking a judge for leniency. carol lee rentalia was found guilty of first degree last month.

grandby home. they are attorney has filed a motion to have her conviction reduced to manslaughter, that is would mean a shorter sentence. a judge is reviewing the motion. >> mark: we are learning the cause of a fire that took the life of a 91-year-old man in charlton. fire investigators say armand st. laurent was in his shed last week when his clothes caught fire after coming into contact with a wood stove. he is the 48th person to die in a year. >> vanessa: this man punched a 72-year-old man who complained he was smoking on the harvard t-stop. the man faced a judge today. the attack happened earlier this month, but officers say he ran away after he threw the punch and just arrested him on monday. >> mark: falling windows, plumbing issues, mold, those are some of the concerns at the medford police department. officers are fed up. fox 25's kerry kavanaugh is live in medford, with a look at the damage you'll see only on

it's will about health and safety. >> the reporter: ock, we began looking into this when we heard from a couple of concerned residents. tonight, some of them, as well as several officers are out here outside of city hall, sending a strong message. they want action taken now. we went inside the department today to see the conditions for ourself. >> that's the one i think they identify the most when they talk about the mold issues. >> the reporter: moldy and missing ceiling tiles, holding cells used for storage, broken of raid and paper towels. >> this is the elevator lobby, but you use this for -- >> yeah. we use whatever space is available. >> the reporter: medford police chief leo sacco says a problem at the police station aren't just cosmetic. health, safety and wellness issue. the building is more than 50 years old. the medford police department have outgrown it and they say there are real safety issues here has well. >> i am always looking up whenever i hear a door. >> the reporter: there's no barrier between the plain desk

front door. the entire area lacks modern safety features, you find at most newer departments and then there's the unwanted additions. >> there's vermin, a lot of mice, and animals. we get a lot of odors from things in the ceilings, bugs. the mayor of medford has only held the position for 11 months, and chief sacco says he believes the new administration will find funds and will prioritize getting the medford police a new facility. but, he understands why his officers are fed up. communities, and you see brand new facilities, that are cropping up left and right, and they always say, you know, why not in medford. >> the reporter: so we took that question to mayor, we spoke with her over the phone and she says in her draft, capital improvements budget, she has earmarked $20 million for a few facility and in the meantime, she's looking around at available real estate here in the city. coming up tonight at 6:00 p.m. though, we take a look at the special set of concerns facing only female officers in this

kavanaugh, fox 25 news. >> vanessa: a new miami hand is accused of stealing a bottle of vodka from a local bills. police say michael murphy of manchester was spotted searching a car in a mailbox near new england brace company in hooksett yesterday. investigators then say he went inside and took a bottle of vodka from an office. he was captured with the alcohol a short time later. >> mark: officers on the cape need help finding a woman, who stole hundreds of dollars in cash and gift cards from an elderly shopper at a wal-mart. falmouth police say this woman stole the shopping cart yesterday evening. they are now trying to identify her. >> vanessa: a holiday light celebration is in limbo on its 100-year anniversary. >> mark: new at 6:00 p.m., the last-ditch effort to save christmas in one local town. >> vanessa: it is flu season and now may be a good time to get your flu shot. the possible outbreak local doctors are bracing for. >> mark: plus a couple is reunited with their family after going missing in the mountains.

a dry evening commute on thursday. seven-day forecast shows the break that's on the way thursday and really into this weekend too. while there's going to be some, well, messiness in atmosphere, i expect most of the precipitation, shower activity to stay in northern new england. if you're heading northward this weekend, rain and snow showers will stay there. i expect southern new england, to stay, if not totally dry, predominantly dry through this weekend and by sunday, kickoff, 1:00 p.m. for the patriots and rams. 46 the high temperature in the morning for your it's going to be in the 30's. kickoff, i'm expecting about 43 degrees, you can expect that to go a degree or two colder or warmer as we get closer to the day and more information comes in. we see the pattern setting up. i like it for a dry light wind kind of a day for the football game right here on fox 25 news sunday afternoon and beyond that, staying ok into early next week, with temperatures rising. a shot for rain and snow showers on monday. i'm not expecting snow to come down and accumulate, but we'll watch for that and more rain on tuesday.
