also another hit-and-run, this time in taunton. we have the latest for the search for the driver that left a man bleeding the streets. several people without a home this morning after this building goes up in flames in lawrence. how a teenager alerted a mom and baby about the fire and got them out safely. and donald trump and mitt romney continue to discuss a potential role in trump's new cabinet. why the former massachusetts governor says he has been impressed by trump's work so far. good morning, everybody, 6:00 6:00 on this wednesday morning. it is november 30. we appreciate you being with us this morning, i am gene lavanchy. >> sara: i am sara underwood. start with breaking weather news. at least three people are dead as strong and severe storms swept across alabama overnight. at least four children are critically hurt after a 24-hour day-care center they were at was destroyed. >> gene: that same storm system is it come this way, although won't be nowhere near as severe.

weather center where the rain will arrive and where it will fall be and be the heaviest. >> sarah: a fairly large storm system and more heat across the southeast. when that cold front pushing into that, you have severe weather that develops. we have a tornado watch in effect for parts of louisiana all the way up to tennessee. notice ahead of that, that's where those severe weather warnings and tornado warnings stop, and that's what we are expecting. just some clouds and fog this morning with temperatures in the 30 the cape and islands, but in afternoon, we will be watching for steady rain to move on in. visibility down to less than a mile to places like norwood. hour by hour temperatures in the 50s and he will be tracking the heavy rain when it arrives. the timeline. we need a check on julie with an update with the accident she is tracking. before we do that, we are following some breaking news right now in chinatown. a huge water main break flooding streets. picture from our photographer

steward street, and it is under water. now we are hearing several other streets in that area are being impacted. we have a crew headed to the scene and keep you updated throughout the morning. and right now we want another check on the traffic mess in boston and on the expressway earlier too, julie. >> julie: of all places, gene, the expressway the least convenient. we had a crash earlier. it is still there, and that's why things are already jam-packed. a live look near freeport street. the accident happened near columbia road. as you shift in, you can see the backups stretching almost to granite avenue right now. as we shift slightly north. the other issue on washington street that is slowing things down. live drive times. 24 minutes on the pike. no issue there is but we are already up to almost 40 minutes on the expressway, and that will continue to climb if they don't get that accident cleared shortly. back to you. all right, developing news this morning. the hunt is on for the person who left a man seriously hurt

to the hospital and police have few clues to go on about the driver responsible. our catherine parrotta live in taunton where this all happened. catherine, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, it happened in this relation area of taunton as well. you can see the scene here has cleared; however, the investigation does continue. here is what we know of this case so far. taunton police say this happened around 8:30 near the intersection near state street and lawrence street in taunton. police got a c and reportedly dragged a ways. when they arrived they found the man lying in the street with a serious leg injury and the driver was nowhere to be found. the victim taken to rhode island hospital and police are not sure of his condition. police are not identified who that victim is and given an update on his condition. they are still working to find the driver at this time and we are checking in with them. also working to get more information as we go through the morning here. live in taunton, catherine parrotta, fox25 morning news. fierce flames are forcing more than 20 people to find a

many are just grateful to be alive thanks to one person that got them out of their homes before the fire was too intense. jessica reyes is live in lawrence with a look at how everyone made it out safely. >> reporter: cell phone video show flames tearing through this triple decker in lawrence at east lawrence and prospect street. >> i just want to cry. i don't know what to do. >> reporter: the alvarez family and several others were in their apartments ben the building went up in flames. >> overwhelmed, worried, and and another woman taken to the hospital as a precaution. >> something like a movie. something i have never seen before. >> all of a sudden i heard banging on the doors. >> reporter: she was taking a nap when someone came banging on her door. she grabbed her 5-month-old baby girl and made sure the she grabbed her 5-month-old baby girl and made sure the 5-year-old disabled son . >> we turned around and windows were shattered. >> reporter: nobody was hurt

the neighbor called police and officers found a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old in the home living among deplorable conditions full of trash and animal waste. police also found the bodies of three dead infants. erika murray is due back in court in december. >> the lynn robbery suspect shot and killed by police has been identified. 41-year-old michael mcguiness of malden robbed a gas station early yesterday morning and he claimed he had a gun. police found him and he of the pocket and he kept walking closer. an officer shot him and mcguiness died at the hospital. among his many robbery arrests this one that we reported on back in 2010 at a 7-eleven in malden, the video gained so much attention because the 75-year-old woman is seen using a price gun to hit mcguiness while he was behind the counter. this morning we are waiting to learn the identity

an electrical bicycle in metheun when he went into the road on the ramp from route 95 to 110 when a flat-bed truck hit and killed him. the driver didn't realize at first that he hit the man but he did stop to cooperate with the investigation. and he told police he did it, the suspect in the hit-and-run crash is being held on $10,000 bail after turning himself in, milton co ncalves admitted he was driving down the street when he his lawyer said he panicked and surrendered two days later because he wanted to do the right thing. >> he stated he had no way to stop and tried to brake but hit the person. he stated it happened very fast and he struck the person and proceeded to panic and drove home. >> gene: he is due in court on december 29. another scare for the people in gatlinburg, tennessee. a brief tornado warning in the town where people are evacuating.

for the fires, officials say three people have died and several more are missing from the state's largest wildfire in a century. gutted buildings and smoking piles of debris is all that is left in some areas of gatlinburg. dry conditions and hurricane-force winds have spread the fire from the great smokey mountains national park. more than 150 businesses and homes were burned to the ground in the resort town on monday including the mayor's >> personally i lost my house and things can be rebuilt. our downtown is intact which is really great for our economy and for the future of gatlinburg. >> sara: authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. the national park service said it was likely human caused. 6:08. investigators believe the student who attacked 11 people at the ohio state university was inspired by messages posted by isis, but despite claims by the terror organization, they don't think

with the group. meanwhile, the fbi is now looking through the cell phone and computer that belongs to abdul razak artan. investigators say the 18-year-old wasn't on their radar but he did post a message to facebook before the attack saying if you want us muslims to stop carrying out in lone wolf attacks, then make peace. he was shot and killed by a police officer after he rammed his car into a group of people on the sidewalk and started stabbing them with a butcher knife. despite new relations with sending a formal delegation to fidel castro's funeral, the u.s. will accepted a pair of white house aides to the funeral. the white house said american relations with cuba are still complicated. cuba is still in mourning following the death on friday. the funeral is scheduled for sunday. happening today, governor charlie baker will be in washington d.c. to discuss transportation and military issues. he is meeting with the army's chief of staff at the pentagon to talk about the progress of

back at 6:14. president-elect donald trump makes good on one of his campaign promises. struck a deal company to keep jobs in the united states. >> reporter: connecticut-based carrier tweeted last night it will keep nearly 1,000 jobs in indiana. the air conditioning manufacturer had been planning to move its factories to mexico and trump campaigned on the promise he will keep those jobs in the united states or punish the company if it refused. the company's decision to stay is perhaps the first major victory since mr. trump was elected president. the news isn't also good for carrier employees. the company has its west side

layoffs in the coming weeks and months. president-elect trump and his vice president will be in indiana tomorrow for the official announcement. trump meant again with former massachusetts governor mitt romney in new york. you see them having dinner here. romney is being considered for secretary of state. the pair were spotted eating dinner at a restaurant in trump tower. afterwards, romney said they talked about the affairs throughout the world, and that he was impressed so far with the president-elect. >> i have to tell you i have seen in the transition efforts. the people he has selected as members of this cabinet are solid, effective, capable people. >> daniel: the secretary of state post is not necessarily a done deal for romney. mr. trump also met yesterday with senator bob corker, former new york mayor rudy giuliani expressed have in that post. the president-elect has not laid out a timeline when he will pick a secretary of state. now he is planning to make a, quote, victory tour to swing

fog and we had rain yesterday and a good slug of it from a half an inch to almost two inches. thank you so much for all of your reports and guess what, folks, getting ready for round two headed our way later on today overnight. here is the rain down stretching from the ohio valley down from the gulf gulf coastal states. actually a tornado watch in effect ahead of this line from louisiana to tennessee as well as georgia, but no severe weather expected in our area. you may hear a rumble of thunder overnight tonight, morning is the fog. the low visibility out there. dense fog from the accounts account river valley through much of central parts of new england, even manchester airport has weather warnings for the potential of a quarter-mile visibility as we head on through the morning hours. we should start to see the fog lift by 9, 10:00. a few breaks in the cloud cover. temperatures range from the 30s to the north and west to the 50s down across the south and places like norwood, 45. that's where we have very

we will see the clouds break apart and then thicken back up as the rain moves in this afternoon and evening. look at those temperatures, well above the average. typically upper 40s. highs today upper 40s to lower 50s as we are going to be dealing with that steady rain. really moving nonby the evening commute and hanging with us overnight tonight as temperatures stay on the mild side. tomorrow morning, starting off with wet conditions, but by midday, we are going to start to see the clouds breaking apart and the mild conditions hang w cloudy and foggy. take look at your futurecast. this is what it looks like by your lunch hour. doesn't look like much. may see a passing shower or sprinkle, but i think things really start going as you head into the afternoon and evening at least for eastern parts of the state. where you see this area of yellow and orange is indicating we could be dealing with heavier downpours at times. otherwise it will be a steady rain through the evening and overnight, but 5:00, you are still dealing with steadier downpours, and then that area

following a high-speed chase in connecticut. jyrus little was in the front seat of a car with his father brandon little. at the time of the crash, court documents say the pair was with three other children and the 18-year-old driver. they allegedly hit speeds of up to 15 miles per hour before crashing head on into another car. >> i just want to know why. why didn't tyler stop. why! that's a baby that's a baby. >> gene: police had called off of the chase just before the crash calling the pursuit "too dangerous." at least three people have died and 17 others are sick after eating a free thanksgiving meal. health officials say all 20 people ate at the golden hills church in california. investigators say food rejected by the church but still given to people waiting in line could be to blame. the church says it is fully cooperating with officials.

victims have not been released. new york police are looking for a man they say stole a pot of gold. check out this surveillance footage. the man in the black vest seems to notice the unattended armored truck and walks over and takes a five-gallon bucket out of the back and runs down the street. police say that bucket was filled with 86 pounds of gold flakes worth about $176 million. took the bruins a while to get going in philadelphia. they came from behind to tie the game. went into where philly prevailed. tuukka rask wasn't really challenged last night and bruins down 2-0 to the flyers. the bs strike twice in a 90-second you span. david krejci's one timer cuts the lead in half. tory krug. brad marchand on side of the net to gobble up. the game tied at 2-2. and a shootout. a long one tuukka rask up to the task.

continuing. drive times over an hour on the expressway. just too much to handle. this is from an accident on several cars right before. and backing things up significantly. bumper-to-bumper all the way back to furnace brook parkway. we shift slightly north. an accident westbound on storrow drive and an issue on route 1 southbound at lynn street in revere. live drive times. thank goodness gained a little bit of t the expressway. 105 minutes. the last time i checked in 80 minutes. making improvements there; however, i would leave early and take the back roads to avoid the expressway until i give you the all clear. back to you. this morning, taunton police are searching for a driver they say hit someone on state street and didn't stop to help. when police arrived at the scene around 8:30 last night. they found the man laying in the road and his leg was seriously hurt.

island hospital. we are working to get more information from police on that car involved. 6:33. a meeting is planned to talk about the future of this local fire chief. the 20-year veteran is under fire for using town money to buy women's clothing. the chief went to great lengths to cover this up. >> reporter: even using some office supplies in some creative ways according to the allegations. that's right this dighton chief is not only accused of using taxpayers money to buy women's clothing against the rules for that policy but also accused of trying to cover it up. >> reporter: dighton fire chief for the past 11 years, anton roderick is now accused of violating the public's trust by purchasing women's clothes with taxpayer money. the chair of the dighton board of selectmen say a recent private audit of the fire department raised red flags.

according to south coast today, investigators claim that roderick submitted invoices for women's clothing. on one invoice for a new coat, they claim he used the word wit-out on the word "women's" and wrote the word "men." he said he bought the women's clothes because it fit him better after his significant weight loss. he was arrested on charge of presenting a fraudulent claim to an employer, police. so what is happening today? well, the board of selectmen chair say a meeting -- a public meeting scheduled for 11 a.m. behind me here at the town hall and that chair does hope that roderick's employment status is resolved before the meeting starts. live in dighton, michael henrich, fox25 news. a new hampshire day care has been shut down after a 3-year-old boy was found wandering alone on a busy street. the toddler walked away from

lee last month. a driver eventually stopped after seeing the child walk near a busy highway on ramp. the boy's mom who did not want to go on camera said her son has down syndrome and can't communicate easily. she sheaves the day care voluntarily closed after the incident and she was never told about what happened. location we talk to say that stretch of road is treacherous. >> it is 40 miles per hour and they exceed 60 >> sara: right now unclear what action will be taken against the day care, but she could lose her license permanently. a controversial plan to bring commuter rail to gillette stadium has new life. a proposal to add four round-trip commuter line trains to gillette under a pilot program. it would run along a line of track used currently for fright train. there could be opposition from those who live close to the

stations, if you don't have the trains running on time and reliable so the people can count on, they won't ride them because they have to get to work and they have to get home. >> gene: the will have plans it walpole residents. they have pledged to pay $200,000 for operating the train. the station parking lot will be near gillette stadium and patriots place parking lot. they won't go through with the plan unless it is approved by the town wajts to fly drones over his town to keep an eye on crime. he put forth the proposal. he said that the drones would be another stool that the police department will use to fight crime. the department has a pair of drones it uses for search and rescue operation. the aclu says that using the technology to spy on people would be violation of privacy. a member of the patriots pitched in to help one of
