every day. yesterday a tough day for blagojevich with witness after witness telling about schemes to pay or play kickbacks. today more hurtful evidence. this time it's a cash-strapped blagojevich doing the damage. it's all heard on the infamous fbi tapes. he's all smiles and hand shakes as he enters and exits the courtroom. but today he was all business upstairs as he listened to the tapes recorded back in 2008. one of them have been to do everything about filling the senate seat vacated by barack obama. to his chief of staff, the list was short. xñ senate president emil jones, an valerie jarrett or blagojevich himself. testimony and tapes make it sound like he was using the appointment as a bargainship. >> it is not coming for free. it's got to be good stuff for

park. an offduty officer discovered jamie jimenez looking at male people undressing. they found other electronic equipment from his apartment. the administration has been told of the charges against the teacher. he was attacked by a grizzly bear in yellowstone national park. irwin everett was found. he did not have a gun or any protection at the time. he was 70 years old and devoted his life to studying nature. dna tests confirmed the bear shot and killed over the weekend was the one who killed everett. he must explain to the president what he was doing. president obama to be livid over his top general in afghanistan telling a magazine

government. thomas piatek is among those. the suspects are accused of an alleged plot to kill a police officer then kill more law enforcement personnel at the funeral. and another federal judge slams an obama administration to stop deep water drilling in the gulf. today a judge said the administration failed to show proof that it is a threat. louisiana officials and fishermen say a ban would do more harm to the economy and them. white house officials plan to appeal the judge's ruling immediately. mayor daley making his case for bringing more walmart stores to the city. coming up, another animated response to his plan. and several celebrity athletes have them. but how beneficial are they? we're looking at sports charities.

two disabled police officers look at a memorial to honor all those injured on the job. it's a story we showed you first last night. jim mullen previewed the clay model of that memorial. commissioned by the memorial foundation and features a wife, child, partner and wounded police officer. the memorial is named we shall never forget. mayor daley points the finger at unions opposed to opening walmart stores in chicago. he wants know why things work differently in the city than in the suburbs. >> reporter: quite a controversy. this is the only walmart in chicago city limits. the retailer wants to build a dozen more across chicago starting in pullman. we went there today to talk to

residents about how that proposed supercenter would impact their community. >> i think it would be a great idea. we need jobs in the community. >> reporter: this is the proposed site of the pullman park development near 111th street overlooking the expressway. if ninth ward councilman gets his way, this will be the site of the city's second walmart. not many grocery store options near historic pullman. if walmart comes, he said he'll be among the first signing up for a job. >> i believe they should be able to pay a bit more. >> reporter: that is really at the heart of the company that has stalled the building. minimum wage in $8.25 an hour.

it's nowhere near over yet. we're still going to get more bad weather. >> tornadoes dancing across the landscape in iowa tonight in northwest iowa near storm lake. big thunderstorms blossoming out there. we have 70-degree dew points. what a combination that is that has been through kansas city and the storms out west. these never did produce storms here. a lot of energy from these were zapped by storms that we want across central jill. no rain today. kind of a nice day. we had a fair amount of sunshine out. we're going to be muggy again tomorrow. with a major severe weather threat coming in a couple of ways as we'll describe in a

moment. 89 in winnetka. and 88 at gary today. it's still 80 at o'hare. this is loaded with moisture. 77 downers grove. there's a scan of temperatures across the metro area. they won't drop a lot tonight because of all the moisture in the air. look at these dew points and they give you an idea where lows may go. this is storm lake, iowa. within 24 miles of storm lake tonight there is a tornado that has been on the ground. look at the gathering storm clouds. these have developed quite suddenly. this is down state. we call this a ring of fire. note the storms developing tonight. these are coming in our direction. and they are doozies.

they tower already to 57,000 feet. you have triple digit temperatures with 70-degree dew points, this air is loaded with moisture. there's the storm cluster that hammers central illinois and kept our skies nice today. you can see the way these storms rim our hot air mass down state that prompted the heat advisories there tonight. tornado of course in eagle, wisconsin. lots of damage from that last night. the storms that swiped our area with 60 mile-an-hour winds really hammered the badger state. and there are heat advisories in effect tomorrow for southern illinois and missouri. while these are flash flood watches and they've been extended into the chicago area. these are thunderstorm watches and tornado watches. there are the flood watches in effect right now.

and there's the moderate risk of severe weather. that's a very high assessment of risk. our model shows a lot of moisture coming down here because this will come in waves and thunderstorms being the tallest -- coming from the tallest clouds on earth concentrate rains into very intense shafts of rainfall. which plug into this dew point- high dew point air. there's 2-inches of water evaporated into the air here and a jet stream that is perfectly oriented to take clusters coming in our direction. here's the state of affairs tonight. these storms that are poking up into the atmosphere in iowa -- again they go over 10 miles into the atmosphere -- have really just taken off in the last couple hours. this is part of a complex that will send several squall lines eastward. these things are going to be flying. note that we've got one squall

line coming by here around 5:30 in the morning. it passes and another batch comes in at 9:00 in the morning. then we heat up and another cluster develops in the afternoon and evening. look at that there going into tomorrow afternoon and even early tomorrow night. finally then it settles south but it's going to be a rough night in parts of illinois and indiana. before we get into a beautiful two-daybreak in the weather will lower humidities an the storms finally shutting down. close up look at the midnight setup. here you see the squall line coming in around 5:00 in the morning and racing through the city an hour later. so the morning rush hour could feature storms crossing the area. with strong winds pushing these out, the winds can be damaging. and with the tremendous vertical temperature drops and the heating we're expecting

between these storms, we could spin up tornadoes too. this will be a wild day for sure. scattered clouds tonight, warm and muggy with potentially active thunderstorms arriving toward morning. temperatures only 73 tonight. strong storms and clusters tomorrow during the day from time to time starting early in the day. then a break for some mixed sun. a 90-degree high and storms and clusters perhaps in the afternoon to tomorrow night before they go down to showers. 71 tomorrow night. and thursday rain free for the first time in several days. partly sunny, warm, less humid. and high of 84 with 80 at the lake shore. same thing friday. wind turns warm and humid again for taste of chicago. we could be flirting with 90 again. much more on our developing storm situation. >> and you'll have a look at the seven-day coming up? >> yes. >> thanks tom.

days. >> the word is hot and humid tomorrow and then a break in the humidity for a couple of days. and we go back in the soup again saturday-sunday with a big cooloff coming next week. though we'll bounce back from that pretty precipitously as well. there's a tornado in the storms in iowa right now. others are following in from nebraska. those storms are exploding where a low level jet rushes in with 90-degree temperatures with 70-degree dew points and slams into a jet stream slicing across in from west to east. that's the view at 5:00 a.m. note that first clust ere of storms is in place at 6:00 in the morning. new ones cross the mississippi and here by mid-morning. these things are moving at extraordinary rates of speed.

so this is a very active pattern. we will sit under the strongest winds in the jet and fast- moving storms could reach up into these jet streams. there you see the high temperatures today. and channel that wind energy to the surface. it's the way those storms that did the damage on friday and yesterday into the areas north and west of us in particular where wisconsin was badly damaged. that will happen again tomorrow. we have rapidly moving waves of storms. and we have a flash flood watch which has just been hoisted into early tomorrow night. so 90 tomorrow and 85 and more like 80 at the beaches on both thursday and friday. beautiful days with lower humidity. then the heat and humidity are back with 91 as and saturday. good warm weekend for taste of chicago. >> thanks, tom. a woman in florida proves
