top aide to todd stroger goes court for a bond hearing. carla oglesby is accused of steering hundreds of thousands of dollars in no bid county contracts to companies including her own public relations business. good afternoon. i'm steve sanders. >> i'm allison payne. we welcome our viewers who are watching us around the country on wgn america. oglesby runs cgc communications. she is accused of pushing through series of contracts totaling nearly $250,000 to her firm and other exches each contract was less than $25,000 and did not require approval from the county board. investigators also want to know

if any work was done in exchange for payment. ogless bee is charged with theft of government services, money laundering and official misconduct. she faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. wgn's robert jordan joins us now where the county board is meeting this afternoon. >> and bob, what are they saying about carla oglesby. >> that's right. the upheavel at county board centered around charges of no bid contracts that may have been within the letter of the law. but which may have pushed the edgeses of illegality so colonially -- edges of illegality so closely that taken as a hole to show that the intent was to circumhaven't the law. at the center of the investigation was carla oglesby. former chief of staff for cook county board president todd stroger oglesby pushed through those so-called 24-9 contracts which as you said fell just

under $25,000 which is the threshold for not requiring full board approval. she is charged with steering hundreds of thousands of dollars to her own public relations firm and to associates who may not have done any work for that pay. she has also been charged with theft of government services, money laundering and official misconduct and cook county commissioner tony peraica says more than just oglesby may have been involved. >> involved at least half a dozen individuals perhaps more who have used this process of awarding tax just under $25,000 to reward campaign vendors because they were unable to raise funds leading up to the february 2010 campaign. i believe it's going to involve indictments of additional individuals and i think that todd stroger has direct responsibility here. >> reporter: well, stroger released a statement short time

ago saying that my administration will cooperate with the states attorney's office during their investigation. this matter was also under investigation by the cook county independent inspector general and that is why he says i appointed county's first ever independent inspector general to oversee matters as this throughout the county. stroajer had no comments when he came into the county building says that he would rather wait until after the press conference which is scheduled by states attorney aknit aalvarez for earlier this afternoon and he says that he will have something to say after that. outside the county building, robert jordan, wgn news. carla oglesby is appearing in bond court at this hour. our own julian crews is at the courthouse and will bring us an update coming up. dupage county physics teacher is charged with a criminal sexual assault for having a relationship with the student. the bond is set at $300,000.

police in aurora say the high school teacher admitted to taking the student to a motel for sex. smith wrote a letter of apology to the student. if convicted he could be sentenced to 14 years in prison. if bond is posted smith is ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18 years old. family of a woman injured on the set of transformers 3 is filing a lawsuit on her bheaf. gabriella was injured september 1 when a metal object crashed through the windshield of a car and hit her in the head. she had been working as an extra on a film set. earlier today her family filed a negligence lawsuit against paramount pictures. claimed accident resulted in serious and permanent rain damage. no comment from the paramount studios on the lawsuit. took emergency crews several hours to bring a hazardous materials situation under control at a southwest suburban chemical plant. forest view fire department was called out around 3:30 this morning to the wr imrais

indiana has -- had no police protection since friday. the town of winfield failed to pay $100,000 to lake county for police services. the piement deadline was last friday. state law requires a 4,000 person town to have its own police services. until the town pays up, the lake county sheriff will only respond to emergency calls. winfield officials are meeting about the problem tonight. hundreds of laid off chicago public school teachers could be getting their jobs back. last summer the school district laid off 1300 teachers and
