could save both her and her unborn baby. how they both pulling through. he was talking about bees. then he opened fire. a gunman shooting two construction workers and a farmer. we don't know why. he is still out there tonight. i'm mark suppelsa. >> i'm micah materre. our top story seen around the country, the search is on. the search beginning in beecher illinois today. the gunman crossed state lines and shot a farmer in lowell, indiana. he's in a hospital tonight and wgn's amy rutledge is there. >> reporter: this suspect is being called extremely dangerous. authorities want him off the streets quick before he can hurt anybody else. we got a sketch of what the suspect looks like. he is described as a white

heavy set man about 40 years old. last seen wearing a windbreaker and jeans. authorities say he is disturbs and his actions appear to be random. the first shots were fired just after 10:30 this morning. construction workers rehabbing a home near beecher, illinois, were approached by a suspect talking about bees. >> as soon as multiple vehicles arrived, they went in the house found another suspect shot inside a residence. and we were told that there were a third subject, the witness who ran out into the corn field. >> reporter: a 45-year-old worker died at the scene. 19-year-old josh garza was air lifted to the hospital. the suspect met up with 64-year- old farmer keith dahl. >> making small talk. talked about possibly raising

or having a bee farm. and then shot the victim three times. shot at the victim and struck him three times. >> reporter: schools in the area were immediately put on lockdown. authorities say the suspect was last seen heading north on kline avenue in a late modeled pickup truck possibly a cheyenne. he is a heavy set man in his 40s wearing a windbreaker and jeans. while authorities are warning people to be cautious, neighbors near the rural area where is the shootings happened are halted. >> i was freightened and thought what if he had come across the street? my daughter was leaving. my 21-year-old daughter left this morning right before it happened. >> reporter: here is another look at the suspect. no motive in this case authorities can come up with at this point. they don't think there's a connection in the shootings as well. there are no cameras in the

areas of he shootings. they tell me they are working on several leads they got this afternoon. the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. they tell anyone in the public that if they see anyone fitting the description, call 911. wgn news. prosecutors claim a top aide to todd stroger has robbed taxpayers of $300,000. she sits in jail as they continue to work the case. tonight julie unruh talked to todd stroger about this. >> reporter: carla oglesby sits at the jail hoping tomorrow her family can bond her out. she was arrested for official misconduct among other things yesterday. today she resigned as deputy chief of staff to the cooke county president. >> i was saddened. >> i believe it's going to involve indictments of

he's a retired chicago teacher. the ground was covered by hail. and these hailstones would do the midwest proud. they were about 1.75 inches in diameter. this is most unusual for october. it brings to an end 100-degree heat. we'll show you that storm. it's interesting because it's snowing tonight in the same time in the mountains of west virginia. 3 inches came down in tennessee. here we sit warming up under a beautiful clear sky today. and a clear sky tonight that will allow some cooling and maybe a patch or two of frost but not the widespread frost that effected areas. if you're west or northwest of the city or far south from the city or lake, you run the best chances of frost. we're going to warm into the mid-70s tomorrow for october's warmest temperatures. a reading 7 degrees warmer than today and 8 degrees above normal.

after a night that saw a 29- degree low at benton harbor. sugar grove and kankakee in the low 30s this morning. not a breath of wind tonight so it's cooling fast. this area is very dry. 53 at o'hare. and there you see the dew points. give you an idea where the lows may go. it's going to be chilly tonight. not quite as cool as it has been. back to glendale, arizona. this is downtown phoenix looking at the ballpark there. look at the rains that hit. there are flood advisories that were just lifted. there was a rainbow and then a mix up to sunshine. these are totals in chandler, glendale, phoenix. look at the gusts at one of the tv stations. ktvk, 81 mile-per-hour wind gusts. there's the storm. there's a cold pocket there and

a cold pocket here. and you can see the rotation around each of them. here's this dome of warm air. this sets up a blocking pattern. we've been telling you about that. a jet stream bringing a big amount from the gulf of alaska. this is called an omega block. when you get these big wavy flows, the progression of these pockets is slow. if you got right under them and are on a mountain top, you get snow. there was snow in tennessee. look at the forecast of rainfall. the same time the frost and freeze warnings we were under in much of the chicago area, are down in the mid-appalachian

chain. they're not expecting any accumulation. rains are running up with these powerhouse thunderstorms even at this hour coming across southern arizona. so very interesting pattern. this is something you expect to see in the monsoon season out there. but this is out of character. and it's all occurring right on the west edge of this 90-degree air mass. 90 degrees at least today at rapid city. look at the chills starting to assemble up in the north slope. some of that is going to come down. we're getting two indications of big cooling in week two. as warm air pushes cool air over the eastern u.s. should be pretty autumnal after this warm-up. here you see the temperatures above where they were 24 hours ago. and we have no wind tonight. humidity 64%. a dew point of 41. low values for the hay fever

for frost in the city at midway airport. maybe a little patchy frost in outlying areas. we're at 53 and very dry. tonight we have a high pressure that's been trapped under this omega block loft. it is settling south. as it does, a wind locks in to warm us up tomorrow. the southwest winds will shift north tonight. and that next high pressure on thursday and bottom line is not a lot of change in temperature. just a few degrees cooler. no rain either. the big rains in this two-day forecast stay east and west of us. and they're big ones too. new york warmest areas in the orange will push us into the mid to upper 70s away from the lake on saturday.

heat wins 105-89. four years after setting a club record of 12 sacks, mark anderson has been waived by the bears. the bears signed charles grant who was cut by the saints in march and released this month by the dolphins. grant started 16 games for new orleans last year before an arm injury took him out of the playoffs. the blackhawks head for colorado tomorrow. they will open the regular season on thursday. that injury changed the life of 19-year-old nick letti. hawks home opener this weekend with the place for the banner going up. he was traded to the hawks this year. and now plans to show up in the big show as a teenager. >> i'm definitely very excited. it's a great honor to be playing on the team. it's always been a goal of mine
