eyebrows here at city hall. some aldermen think he should run and alexi ginnaoulias is willing to listen. >> it is politics, anything is possible i imagine, like i said i was surprised when i heard the news. we'll have to wait and see what is happening with the people involved. >> nothing surprises me. i have been here 24 years. >> how will it change? >> and support rahm emanuel and work hard to get him elected. >> crane and the sun times say that they are not crazy about the idea of working with rahm emanuel. it is looking for someone who will be a threat to the exwhite house chief of staff. and alexi ginnaoulias said he was shown results of a poll that put him 6 or 7 points ahead of rahm emanuel. he will make the run official after several weeks on a listing tour. he will kick off his campaign on the north side. and danny davis will get into the race on sunday morning

downtown. davis, who just won his eighth term in congress, is getting into the game late after a coalition of african-american leaders picked him as its consensus candidate. and sunday evening the head of the salem baptist on the south side, james meeks, will launch his campaign. one believes if you add alexi ginnaoulias to the mix, there will be a run-off in aperal. >> i think if he did run, it would make it more difficult for anybody to get into the runoff. it will be -- nobody would be a sinch as much as i think rahm emanuel is thought of in previously to running. that's the strategy i think. >> reporter: the election is february 22nd. candidates must collect 12500 signatures on nominating petitions. the first day to file the petitions is monday.

at city hall, judy wang. >> he has his work cut out for him. the president elect of the board says that todd stroger is not cooperating with the tradition. transition. toney preckwinkle met with him after months of resistance. john daley said it lasted ten minutes. all officials of the county have to work on the transition tros and the commissioners will force more cooperation from todd stroger at the board meeting on tuesday. an attorney died when he was crushed under a golf cart. it happened on the course in skokie on wednesday. another golfer found him trapped under the cart with no one around him. larry schaud died from multiple injuries. it has been ruled an accident. we have a update on the condition of a student who was beat within a bat last april. she contracted an infection in

the care at a hospital in ireland. she was thrown there after having brain surgery here in chicago. she was treated but her condition has not improved since leaving chicago. she suffered from seizures and lost the ability to speak. she and a friend were attacked april 23rd. two people have been charged with attempted murder in the case. and a spike in crime prompted the university of illinois to step up security in urbana. several male students have been attacked on the way to their apartments. on monday, woman was sexually assaulted in a dorm shower. the school is locks the exterior doors of the storms, adding cameras and increasing student patrols. it will have a town hall-style meeting at the illini union. the rickets family is asking lawmakers to back renovations at wrigley field. they want a bond. they say the plan will not

>> reporter: well, the police say that they have investigated a lot of thefts but this one is mind-boggling. robberrings broke into the home on kentucky and hammond yesterday afternoon, they broke a window first and then prying the locks off the back door to gain entry. after going through the home, they left with a television set, jewelry and a sealed box containing the ashes of his late wife. his wife, a former chicago school teacher, died of bone cancer at age 40. he and his 11-year-old son were planning to do something special with the remains and he put them in a classet shelf for safekeeping. washington said that he feels violated. >> i was angry but i'm sad. she just died six months ago

the remains of a girl in north carolina are believed to have been found. zahra baker was reported missing in october. they believe they found her wednesday in an area near gunpowder creek. they are expected to make an announcement at 3:00 today. her parents are facing charges unrelated to her disappearance. a marine was killed during the first combat deployment in afghanistan. james stack was killed wednesday by small arms fire in afghanistan's helmand province. he had been in the country for a month. he was 20 years old. >> very proud to be a marine, we were so impressed with just the whole, the accomplishment of being a marine. we didn't know about it.

today there are hurt feelings. it seems like a typical day at st. charles north but to many it has been a long week filled with anxiety. >> tension, yes, around a lot of people. >> reporter: that's after three students wore shirts that read straight pride on the front. the backside had a beenlycal passage referencing death as punishment for homosexual behavior. that was offensive to many. >> they blacked out the letters but not until there was an hour left at school. kids saw the words and they were either threatened by the shirt or offended that a message was being portrayed at the school. >> reporter: and amanda helped to organize the week that coincides with a national anti- bullying campaign. and the students who wore the shirts were not disciplined. they believe that the incident has become a teachable moment.
