in oak park, a welcome home for a hero. marine staff sargeant derrick westmoreland came home to his family and children. the 33-year-old career marine sargeant served multiple tours in iraq and afghanistan. westmoreland in his dress blues and uniform decorations, all full there and they all bear witness to his combat record. he is now taking an assignment stateside. he was escorted home by volunteers from operation welcome home illinois. >> navy pier is always a fun place to take the little ones. this weekend, they got a bonus, a huge one, the annual toy and game fair. >> ran randi bellisomo had the

it would be nice and warm tomorrow, but -- >> i have to tell you, it's nice and warm right now, 60 degrees. 60 in northwest suburban wheeling and midway airport is 60. almost 60 at o'hare, but not quite. we do have a chance tomorrow, maybe seeing a 70 or two in the area, but don't get too excited. it may be mixed with rain across the area. we'll talk about that in a mowment. time lapse picture, in lieu of rain, a lot of clouds up there, hazy conditions across a big part of the chicago area. overall, not a bad day if you didn't mind putting up with the

wind. it's windy, now gusting 20-30- miles per hour. in fact at this hour, o'hare reported a 35-mile per hour gust. this chart shows a high in chicago of 56 degrees. that's as of 7:00 tonight, the temperature continues to rise and we are up to 59 presently at o'hare, but look at the cold air that is waiting it will take a week to get in here, but probably by friday, the way it looks at the moment, we'll have quite a plunge in temperatures. readings across the area at this hour, everybody universally mild. we'll probably top out in the low 60s before the night is over. as for dew points, fairly high, that's to be expected. plenty of atmospheric moisture, so we are expecking rainshowers, visibility is down because all all of the haze. here's the wind coming out of the south, 10-20-miles per hour and look at these wind gusts,

o'hare, 35-miles per hour. time lapse. by the time it finally gets in here, keeping daytime highs as we go into the weekend 30 degrees at best, some areas may not get out of the 20s, but it will be a big drop in temperatures by then. what else is going on? radar is showing something southwest of the chicago area. we don't have any rainfall reports in the 9:00 readings, so we are watching that closely, but if it is raining at your house, that's the radar to prove it. upper peninsula of michigan, big storms out west dumping as much as a foot to two feet of snow in the northern sierra mountains of california. probably excited skiers in western colorado as well. plenty of snow coming down in those areas. the red areas indicated on the map are in fact winter storm

warnings, more freezing rain possible for the minneapolis/st. paul area. >> now, let's check our forecast. for tonight, cloudy skies and showers possibly. low temperature, 53-58. in other words, steady temperatures across the region. tomorrow, continued cloudy with periods of rain and believe it or not, we might see a thunderstorm, 63-67 degrees. tomorrow, rain should stop and the air will turn cold. by tuesday, we are looking at a high of 43-47. still a little breezy out there and a few clouds as well. the seven-day forecast, temperatures fall off fast about thanksgiving day. there will be some rain in the area for wednesday, thursday and the cold air mixes in, the rain could change to snow by friday morning. probably not much of an accumulation, we are still watching that possibility, however, we'll keep you posted, no doubt, but temperatures do try to recover a little going into next weekend. what a week.
