been almost 10 years and even now just the mention of her daughter's name brings soviet to tears. it's a pain i have so deep inside she says, it's like it just happened yesterday. >> this is the neighborhood where happened. a lot has changed since then, the apartments then are condos now and family still live here anymore they have moved on, and this story as horrible as it was is one of those that sometimes gets lost not because it wasn't important, but because of what else happened that day. >> it was september 11, 2001, the world reeling from the attack on america sylvia's world was falling apart to. she had been a work and her husband was home with the kids having

trouble with too year-old vanessa who refused to eat her french fries. he lost his temper, the little girl was viciously beaten so badly her spine was twisted. on september 12th she was declared brain dead, her mother begged the doctors to keeper on life support so vanessa wouldn't die on her birthday. the next day they let the little girl slipped away, her mother held her for the first time since the attack and for the last time and then she donated vanessa's organs and laid her daughter to rest, barred nightmare was just beginning. police had discovered a pattern of abuse by the little girl's father. >> on at least two occasions that he admitted to us and probably far more often than he admitted. >> child protective services needed to make sure the other children were in a safe environment so with her daughter dead, her husband behind bars

for, they came and took her sons. >> says she has her daughter in a casket, the baby's father is in jail. that was the first week of all of this. >> she was left alone in wondering what had happened to her life. and i felt so alone. i did understand anything that was happening. >> the mother at that had one job got two more to pay for legal bills and started taking parenting class's and rebuilding her life focusing on her two young boys you're in for the day they will all be together again. that day came months ahead of schedule with the help of his relief and the department's social worker. the oldest son

their children to violence joined together today to remember their loved ones. they use not forgotten memorial wall was dedicated at st. catholic church. it showed 70 young adults who have been murdered recently about 50 mothers were on hand calling up the names of their deceased children. this is the second year in a row the churches brought together mothers who have lost their kids to violence. >> making mothers day of service and charity on the south side. >> the vietnamese food and then again it is not. turning the traditional into something different.

beautiful day. >> it was a beautiful day or temperatures warmed up to 68 degrees in chicago. that is one degree above normal. tomorrow we should be about eight degrees above normal and by tuesday 17 degrees above normal. on fortunately if you like the heat it may be a little messy at times. there is a day to day chance of rain just about every day and the next seven. but today we start off with sunshine this time lapse cameras indicated it did cloud over in the afternoon we're thinking it

may be partial clearing tonight and by tomorrow afternoon it's possible we could see the showers and thunderstorms develop but there's a better chance to march 9th. our high temperature in chicago is 60 degrees but look at that warm air to the south readings in the '80s even if you '90s down in the southern flames. we are not going to get out warm but pretty close. at least 84 degrees by tuesday. unfortunately by friday it more coal there is expected. that will drop our temperatures probably about 15-20 degrees. temperatures across the area at the moment, 52 at o'hare airport. temperatures tonight should stay reasonably mild. the air is a little dry out there. winds have been off a
