my attention the most was seeing the people arriving so early this morning to ensure they would get a place in the church these are ordinary chicago citizens not the dignitaries who were reserved seats. many women came because they felt an affinity for maggie daley ... many of them cancer survivors. i spoke to many with many touching stories themselves saying they were inspired and received strength from her. my colleague sean lewis was inside of the church able to observe many of the notables who came to pay

their respects >>many were on the lower level many had to go into the overflow section in the balcony there was a vice president first lady michelle obama mayor bloomberg of new york mayor rahm emanuel ... people from various political parties and many of them of course were democrats but they all came to pay tribute to this unofficial adviser of the mayor of chicago for 22 years. she really put her mark on this city. you have the francis xavier ward school next to this parish and there was afterschool matters ... so many references to the children of this city with no direct

vice-president the two of them managed to slip in relatively unnoticed. the first lady let it be known through her spokespeople that she did not want to distract from what was taking place here today. this is a moment we are likely to not forget. this beautiful historic piece of chicago this old church and a farewell to a very beloved woman. we saw many political leaders and individuals of course rahm emanuel mayor of chicago and new york city mayor bloomberg as well as the governor of illinois and the list goes on

and on u.s. senate term mark kirk and senator dick durbin congresswoman jan schakowsky and the chairman of the chicago bulls and white sox and also the rev. jesse jackson was here ... people coming to honor the memory of this great chicago citizen. along with hundreds of citizens rubbing shoulders and this tiny church in only holds 1000 people is more than 155 years old. the funeral procession that brought maggie daley to the church began at the chicago cultural center a place that held significance to her. judy wang joins us from there >>this place held a special

place in maggie daley's heart. just after 10:00 this morning the motorcade left here made its way past city hall before arriving at old st. pat's church she passed away at 68 years old thanksgiving evening the pallbearers included sons brothers a loss son-in-law of members of the family. people stopped to pay their respects many who worked in nearby office buildings stepped out for a moment ... maggie daley is the one who helped to save the cultural center from the wrecking ball and restored it to its original glory it's very fitting that people were

able to come for a public wake this weekend there were loud here yesterday afternoon after the family had private services many waited in the rain and made their way to preston bradley hall where her casket was adorned with beautiful flowers. >>it was a somber moment it was i have met the mayor on several occasions and i truly feel for his loss i thought it was right for me to come by and paris backs >>this family mean so much to the people of chicago and maggie daley cared so much for the city she was a terrific family
