an early-morning fire at a high rise apartment building claimed one life events left many more trapped and in need of rescue. >> that deadly fire at 3100 north lake shore drive is our top story tonight. >> flames were pouring out the 12th floor window of this lakeshore drive apartment building when emergency crews arrived just after 2:00 a.m. but

32 year-old john it did not escape, she had taken the elevator and not knowing a fire was raging. when the elevator door opened authorities believe she was overwhelmed by flames and smoke, her body was found in the elevator. firefighters believe the blaze started in one apartment and spread through the open front door, and brett put on issues to run out but couldn't get down the hall. >> the smoak was too unbearable to go into the hallway. >> he called 911 and waited inside for 40 minutes not knowing if one of the fire fighters could get him out. >> the eventually knocked down the door and escorted us out the hallway was charred and black. >> this is an older building in under city law sprinkler system

mchenry county sheriff's office are bonded out of jail after being charged with 10 counts of sexual assaults. sgt gregory has been charged with forcing a juvenile to perform oral sex over several occasions from 2006-2010. the state police spokesperson says that the file is related to the victim. he has been relieved of duty and is on administrative leave. the next court date is january 27th. investigators are still on the scene of a shooting that involves a chicago police officer. a man was shot in the chest in the 2100 block of north laramie at around 6:30 p.m. tonight, police are not releasing any information about the shooting, the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious to critical condition. a military man comes
