deaths of emmett till nearly 60 years ago. >> a teenaged boy dies after falling on the blue line "l" tracks. it happened this afternoon.. and wgn's dan ponce joins us live with the details. dan? what happened. >> the boys his name has not been released because family members have still not been notified. police said it appears that this was a terrible accident it happened just after 3:00 this afternoon at the medical district blue line station 400 block of south damon. they said the boy was goofing around with his friends when something fell onto the tracks. he jumped onto the tracks to retrieve it and he slipped and fell onto the third rail. then he was electrocuted. police said he was dead on the scene but he was taken to the

hospital which was just a few blocks away. 13 year-old boy electrocuted after jumping down onto the rail tracks and making contact with the third rail. surprising developments at a pre-trial hearing for an oswego man accused of killing his family. a state police investigator reportedly thinks chris vaughn didn't do it, that his wife did. vaughn is charged with shooting his wife and three children in 2007. their bodies were found in the family's van near channahon. a private-eye for the defense says a state police sergeant testified the evidence pointed to wife kimberly. prosecutors say that's false. >> i think the report is right with inaccuracies. right with misrepresentation. the prosecutors will do that when it comes to trial and august. >> also today vaughn's attorneys asked a judge to ban any mention of his druid beliefs. prosecutors want to include a posting vaughn made calling himself a "solitary druid" suggesting he wanted to get rid

of his family. the judge will rule on that next week and the trial is set for august 13th. the guardian angels were out in the englewood neighborhood this morning... helping to ensure the safety of young people on their way to school or work... following a number of recent attacks on women and girls in the area. two sexual assaults occured in the last two months. then... there was the recent attempted abduction of a couple of young girls. two men in their mid to late 30's are believed to be involved... driving in an older model black pickup truck which also has a bed cover. chicago police are telling residents to walk in pairs and to always be on alert. shocking news today on campus at illinois state. two students from suburban chicago found dead in different dorms. sophomore allison zak and freshman john cody stephens. both found by roommates. the coroner saying today that the deaths are unrelated and the university president says no criminal activity is involved in their deaths. zak was from west suburban schaumburg. stephens from north suburban wilmette. the campus is now on spring break. counselors will be

available when students return. a chicago-area man is reunited with his now 12-year old daughter more than 2 years after she was kidnapped and taken to dallas. wgn's gaynor hall tells us how facebook helped to bring the two together again >> the police was contacted by the father of march 17th indicating that he was concerned for his child welfare. >> and with that in evanston police detective got in contact with police in dallas sparking the investigation that brought a girl back to her father and landed her mother shot vaughn taylor in jail. this all started in 2009. documents released by police says the girl was visiting her grandmother for christmas on chicago's south side. taylor is charged with kidnapping the child and taking her to texas. among the allegations police a taylor and her boyfriend get the girl locked in a closet a week as punishment for telling a teacher about domestic violence she had witnessed at home.

the nato summit is coming to town in may, but protestors and the city could be headed to court before then. those who plan to demonstrate say they'll appeal the city's decision to deny a new date for their protest march. and as wgn's julian crews tells us. both sides are taking firm stands in their positions. the application was originally accepted and the route was accepted. if you change the date, the route not the destination the route needs to be changed. the mere holding firm on the city's position after the requested change. those organizing the march and rally wanted to move it up a date to sunday may 20th. now that the summit is not happening in chicago but the city says

"furry"..on the stevenson expressway today. shortly after eight this morning on the wgn morning news...skycam nine followed this little dog stranded on the expressway between cicero and central. the dog managed to get into the median separating the two directions of traffic.. state police trailed the dog until animal control could get to the scene. they say dog wasn't injured..just overwhelmed. he's pretty healthy. a black cocker spaniel about four or five years old. he was just very wet. and very shaken. the dog didn't have a collar, but he does have a microchip

alarm fire. i just ran over from that scene into the light truck to bring you this report but i can tell you from what i saw over there two minutes ago, it looks like the fire is out but it is still a very active this scene. again, two people possibly killed in this fire waiting to get confirmation on that and as we get more information will be sure to bring it to you. >> midnight opening for a movie in history. the "hunger games" made nearly 20 million dollars overnight. the only ones that did better: three of the "twilight" movies and three of the harry potter films. the movie's expected to earn more than 100 million dollars for the opening weekend. is "hunger games" really that good... or is it just overblown hype? here's w-g-n's dean richards with his review.

the success of this megahit something for everyone book are its many layers: the exciting action, the love story the social and political statement. the movie captures most of it in this world of the future, where the government requires each district of the country to offer up two teenagers for a televised, gladiator like fight to the death. jennifer lawrence shines as this joan of arc character fighting, but one with a heart of gold in the sense that decency and fairness are lacking in this self- centered society. it's an effective action film about death and survival. most of the blood and gore is implied and not seen - that enables the pg- 13 rating. there is enough of a love story for the preteen viewer, but not so much as to make the grown-ups nauseous. for them there is the story of what society could become when the government is out of control and children are slaughtered for the amusement of the wealthy, in this reality show world of voyeurism and excess. it is a well told, layered film, with great performances from these
