john axford has had kind of a bizarre year. he was working on a streak of 49 consecutive converted saves. but what he has not pitched in a save spot it's been a real struggle for him. you see that happen occasionally with even the best closers. up in the air to right. hart goes over into the corner. and soriano will have to hold at first. axford is 6-6 in

save chances, in the other five appearances where he has not been in a save situation he's allowed runs in four of those five games. he's not allowed a run in a save chance. it's very strange. he's either been lights out or bad and it all depends on the spot he's in. >> and he's not the lone ranger. a lot of good closers some of the best closers in the game suffer a similar fate. they just for whatever reason lack of adrenaline just can't seem to get the outs they need when they're just getting their work in. >> carlos marmol injury a right hamstring sprain. that's why he came out. now backed by barney.

the brewers have won 54 in a row when they've taken a lead into the eighth inning which they did tonight on the lucroy pinch hit three run double in the seventh. awkward looking swing, ramirez down to a knee up with it. ishikawa save oh he came off the bag. the tying run on with nobody out. that's an error on ramirez. >> little bit reminiscent of the todd helton play in colorado last week when he stretched off the bag and didn't try to get back. at least ishikawa tried to retreat to the bag but

the estimation is he didn't get back in time. very close. >> he may have but we've looked at it several times and it's too close to tell. ron roenicke briefly argued to no avail and reed johnson on with stewart on and nobody out. 97 and lucroy made a nice play to keep that ball from getting to the back stop. >> sometimes you can tell if a pitcher not in sync by how he misses the strike zone. that ball nearly got by lucroy all the way to the back stop.

and hooks it back to right field man a real shallow line for aoki out there in center field. letting that ball get past him giving de jesus the opportunity to turn the corner at second. get himself to third base with one out in the inning forcing the brewers to bring their infield in. >> the fourth longest consecutive save streak is over. castro normally aggressive strike 1 infield in. all good things come to an end john axford saved 49 in a row. and unearned run snaps the streak and now he's trying to keep this game tied.
