attended a party where there was alcohol, and then tried to escape from police officers as they tried to break-up the bash. he's accused of getting into a phystical confrontation with officers as they tried to take him into custody. his teammate, linebacker carlo calabrese, was also arrested and charged with a misemeanor. some lawmakers want a proposed new tax on strip clubs to fund rape crisis centers in illinois. a senate committee approved the legislation yesterday. the new law would allow strip clubs to charge a three-dollar admission fee... or opt to pay a tax based on annual profits. opponents say the state is obligated to fund social services... but *not* at the expense of businesses, which already pay their share of taxes. the bill now goes to the full senate. extreme speeders in illinois will soon face much tougher penalties thanks to a new law now on its way to governor quinn's desk. "julie's law" was developed after 17-year-old julie gorczynski was killed in a car crash last june by a driver who was going more than 35 miles per hour over the speed limit. the law would effectively deny driving privileges to extreme speeders, by prohibiting judges from letting them off with court supervision. if signed by governor quinn, the law would take effect in june 2013.

in medical watch.. brain injuries in war veterans are similar to those in athletes. scientists who've studied a degenerative brain disease in athletes have found the same condition in combat veterans exposed to roadside bombs in iraq and afghanistan. it's known as cte.. anf it's an incurable disease that can only be detected by autopsy. by simulating explosions on mice.. the researchers believe they've found the way explosions damage brain tissue and trigger cte. the study could help in developing preventive measures for blast-related brain injuries.. as well as drug therapies and diagnostic tests for cte. coffee drinkers live longer.. and it doesn't seem to matter if it's regular or decaf. a new study by the national institutes of health and the american association of retired persons followed 400 thousand people.
