has not had halladay's command but he's walked two. why is it that when you're down five runs in the ninth inning a lot of guys give you that best at-bat of the night. they take pitches, they make the pitcher work. why can't guys treat the second inning in a 0-0 tie like they do when you need base runners down big late. bob: i can't answer that question, i really don't know. when you think back in the history of this game pete rose's name game up earlier. len: he treated every at-bat. bob: every at-bat like it was the last one he was ever going to get in his life. didn't matter whether it was the first at-bat of the game or a tie game in extra innings. game seven of a world series. he approached every at-bat exactly the same.

bob: i don't know what you're doing kid but you're making the skipper mad. len: the closer is up, jonathan papelbon. he got up last night but then the phillies had that big ninth inning and he did not have to pitch. bob: the phillies go back home to play the boston red sox this weekend, so you know papelbon wants to be rested and ready to go for that series. len: he probably wants to pitch in all three if he can. red sox beat tampa bay 5-3. here we go. castillo takes ball one low. darwin barney on-deck. he has to score for the cubs to have a

one priority here. len: ruiz will go out and chat with the rookie before this 2-2 pitch. bob: in talking about the at-bats at various points in the ball game. you can really kind of mess yourself up. castillo is not trying to not make an out. he's trying to hit a home run. there is no question about it. if you approach the at-bat, what does my team need me to do here as opposed

to what would i like to do here? len: that's a fair ball! campana baker. stewart will all score. it's a ball game! bob: yes. len: tying run will come up and i don't think diekman will get a chance to face him. 8-6 and here comes charlie. and he wants jonathan papelbon. that's the first hit of the inning by the way. bob: flat slider that ends up on the inside part of the field. kept fair where john mayberry had some issues as he bobble that bar, you can see he initially was holding stewart and waving him and then he threw up the stop sign but it
