>>i think it's important that everyone knows we're racing against the clock and that we must get this done as soon as possible those rating agencies are poised to decide on our work and we must get that work done and get to the mountaintop ... we have gone part of the way up and a framework that we have worked on has made steady progress over the last several mosfet on pension reform and that's encouraging but clearly we are not there yet >>it's been very ugly these last couple of days ... we need to put all of this aside and get this done ... i have some theories and ideas on this but that doesn't do anyone any good ... >>the plan is now to get that done and bring leaders from both parties together to expand on the framework of a varity agreed upon to get this pension reform

passed ... at least one bond rating agency is watching the situation and considers the illinois rating the worst in the nation this almost makes it worse they have failed to make a deal on pension reform and budget but they did manage to pass a gambling expansion bill let's to the chagrin of the governor he is again urging all lawmakers to keep their eye on the ball very important legislation done ... some new revenue-generating proposals were also approved by state lawmakers. there is a new tax on strip clubs that serve alcohol in hopes of raising money to support rape crisis centers. state budget cutbacks have reduced funding for those centers by more than twenty five percent in the past five years. an attempt to raise license plate fees to get more money for state parks, failed to pass. the measure would have raised fees from the current 98 dollars to one hundred dollars a

year. it would also have charged entrance fees to some public places... bringing in an estimated 15 million dollars the first year alone, for the department of natural resources. the bill passed in the house but it fell just three votes short in the senate. illinois state's attorneys are about to get more power to crack down on gang leaders. the state house passed a bill that makes it easier to prosecute people who enlist others to commit crimes. cook county state's attorney anita alvarez helped write the bill, and mayor emanuel campaigned for it. police superintendent garry mc- carthy says the bill will help police dismantle criminal organizations by letting authorities prosecute their leaders for the actions of their members. the austin district police station looks like a high-end store today... packed with expensive items... all of them stolen. police serving a search warrant for guns on the west side two weeks ago stumbled upon a cache of merchandise worth about 300-thousand dollars. racing bikes, cameras and

nine days of jury deliberations produced a not guilty verdict in the trial of former presidential candidate john edwards. he was aquitted of accepting illegal campaign contributions to cover up his affair and love child. other counts. despite being found not guilty, edwards admitted he is not morally innocent. >>i did an awful awful lot that was wrong, and there is no one else responsible for my sins ... federal prosecutors haven't said whether they'll re-file the charges on which the jury deadlocked. more violence in syria...a week after the massacre that left 108 civilians dead... 12 factory workers were hauled off a bus and executed on thursday by pro-government gangs. they were lined up against a wall and shot, said an oppositon group. the u-n human rights chief has called for syria to grant access to investigators. syrian government claims the attacks in houla last week were the work of terrorists. the u-s and british ambassadors to the u-n call syria's claim a lie. defense secretary leon panetta again called upon the international community to demand the resignation of

syrian president bashar al assad. the house of representatives has rejected a bill banning abortions based on the sex of a fetus. the bill would have imposed fines and prison terms on doctors who perform abortions on women trying to choose the gender of their child. 246 house members backed the measure, while 168 voted against it. most republicans supported the bill, and most democrats opposed it. supporters argue the bill protects the civil rights of unborn children. opponents say it's another assault on legalized abortion. friday rush hour will likely be even more hectic as president obama comes to town later today. the president is visiting chicago to attend a series of fundraisers for his re-election campaign. one is at the chicago cultural center, where 350 people are expected to attend with tickets starting at 25-hundred dollars. the other two events are at private homes, to which tickets cost nearly 36-thousand dollars per guest. he's scheduled to leave the city at about noon, tomorrow after spending the night at his home in kenwood.

time for sports. mayor rahm emanuel wants chicago to host a super bowl... and the nfl isn't completely ruling it out. nfl commissioner roger goodell joined emanuel to recognize soldier field as the first officially certified "green" stadium in the league. new york will host the super bowlutdoors in 2014, and proves chicago can host such an event. soldier field has the smallest capacity in the nfl, but goodell says things like infrastructure would also be considered in any future bid. former bulls and notre dame baseketball player orlando woolridge, has died. woolridge was drafted in 1981, and played in chicago for five seasons. he also played for several other teams until his retirement in 1994. woolridge suffered from a chronic heart condition, and was pronounced dead at his parent's home in louisiana last night. he was 52. cubs president theo epstein denies a report that he would be willing to trade short stop starlin castro. "usa today" quotes two cubs officials saying everyone except jeff samardzija is available for a trade.

your peanut butter? a new study found flame retardant chemicals in many popular food items. reasearchers at the university of texas school of public health tested foods from dallas-area supermarkets-- including fish, meats, and peanut butter. of the 36 foods tested, 15 had detectable levels of a flame retardant. the chemical is used in thermal insulation, electrical equipment and consumer products. researchers say the levels found are not dangerous but further studies should be conducted. eating dark chocolate every day for 10 years, could lower the chances of heart attacks and strokes in some high-risk patients... says, a new study published in the british medical journal. researchers predicted the effects in 2000 people who were at a high risk of getting heart disease. the results are shown for only dark chocolate containing at least 60 to 70 percent cocoa... and not milk or white chocolate. caution is advised against sugar or calorie intake over an extended period.

we had some nice rain overnight and we needed that ... the northern and central sections of the chicago area were hit with the heaviest rainfall here are some accumulation totals: the drop-off was in the southern suburbs... the buffalo grove reading is questionable but currently it's 54 degrees in gary indiana ... 58 degrees in naperville ... and there are those clouds ... and fox lake has clouds in the area as well
