12:04 pm
>>it's the best of both worlds according to the police superintendent garry mccarthy ... those who are not threatening to the public let them pay fines and contribute to the revenue of the city and less free up police officers who typically spend four hours processing these marijuana arrests time spent better patrolling the streets and curbing violence >>first of all there will be training which will help our officers determined not only if it is canada's but how much based on observation ... there are three big parameters that will be an arrest situation one of them will be on school property the second in parks and a third is smoking vs possession of marijuana
12:05 pm
>>and others have expressed reservations about the marijuana ordnance others had made the argument for the decriminalization >>the war on drugs has been around for 30 years and we have not eliminated it we have had our moments of progress and now it's time to come up with alternative solutions ... alderman ed burke a former cop is signaling a retreat ... he had raised issues about the message being sent to kids in the public apparently the superintendent garry mccarthy is easing concerns the vote will come up before the public safety committee before the day is over police have issued a community alert for the lakeview neighborhood after a man was attacked while walking his dog
