dolton police are questioning a man in the beating death of a teenage girl. and that suspect is someone the family knows. good afternoon. i am dan ponce. and i'm dina bair. we have the latest from wgn's nancy loo -- from dolton. >>charges have still not been filed in this case, so the name of the man in custody has not been released by police but they say it is someone who is known to the young victim's family. 16 year-old gloria wood was found dead wednesday morning in a motel room here in dolphins ...

typical fire department employee can bump up their pay by $17,000. a year, with some union-negotiated perks. firefighters get extra money for training in hazardous materials, and training as a diver. they also get double pay for working holidays. and there are bonuses, just for being available to work. those cost the city $84 million a year. mayor emanuel says he'll target those perks in the next firefighters contract, which expires at the end of this month. residents in 13 southwest suburbs will get hit with bigger water bills... thanks to a major infrastructure improvement project. oak lawn will spend more than 180 million dollars to update its water distribution system. to help cover the costs, people in palos hills, oak forest, orland park, and other communities will see steeper bills. officials say the project is necessary, to ensure there's enough water during the summer. they were laid off after their company abrubtly closed its doors. and now some employees are demanding to collect their final paychecks. wgn's randi belisomo is live outside prime staffing on the northwest side with details randi?

hundreds of employees were counting on a paycheck from prime staffing today, but it appears their last two weeks of work will go not compensated ... workers have been arriving here to find that the business has gone out of business ... the company provides hospital like industrial and hospitality staffing through four locations here in the chicago area ... this north cicero office provides lots of coke's four hotels ... every friday they come here to pick up their paychecks today it's close to no one from mccourt headquarters is answering the telephone ... a manager at the location city received it wednesday for 30 a.m. e-mail saying the company was going out of business and the bank closed its line of credit to fund the operation so paychecks will not be honored all the money they have will pay

as jurors continue deciding the fate of jerry sandusky, one of his six adopted children has come forward with more allegation of sexual abuse. matt sandusky offered to testify as a witness for the proseuction. it's unclear why he was never called. but prosecutors are under a gag order, so they can't comment. there are reports matt sandusky's claims follow the same pattern displayed by others who have testified in the case. jurors are expected to continue deliberations this afternoon. they are sequestered, and have not heard about matt sandusky's claims. pentagon officials point to a terror network in pakistan as possibly responsible for the deadly hotage taking and attack

that leaves at least 26 people dead. the attack began at midnight at an outdoor party at a resort hotel near kabul, afghanistan. these pictures show guests clinging to the hotel wall for protection. seven taliban terrorists smuggled explosives into the hotel by hiding them under women's burqas -- authorities say. all seven of the terrorists were killed. a pentagon spokesman says the group called "haqqanis" -- could be responsible. 50 hostages were rescued. a retired chicago police officer and vietnam veteran has been killed in afghanistan. 62year-old tom boyle of barrington hills was working as a security contractor. he was training police officers, as he had previously done in iraq and kosovo. boyle died in a firefight monday. visitation and funeral services will be held june 30-th at the davenport family funeral home in barrington. president obama will reach- out this afternoon to a crucial voting bloc: latinos. he'll speak at the national association of latino elected and appointed officials in florida... in about 15 minutes from now. republican presidential candidate mitt romney addressed

financial footing. questions are being raised about the cost of former mayor richard daley's security detail. taxpayers spent $160,000. for mayor daley's first four months out of office according to the better government association. in a story in the sun-times, the bga says it received the information under the illinois freedom of information act. the group says it is trying to get more information -- based on changes made to the plan by mayor rahm emanuel. but police officials say it would burden the operations of the department to calculate the cost of the current plan. someone is stealing chicago's city property... and like the johnny cash song... are doing it one piece at a time. this maintenance garage for city trucks is just one of four places that have been hit ... for thousands of dollars in losses. thieves have been stealing giant truck tires, batteries copper wire and a welding system -- even though the facilities have security cameras, locks and fences. police reports have been filed and the city inspector general will look into the thefts.
