the u.s. supreme court has ruled on arizona's controversial immigration law.. rejecting provisions. good afternoon. i am dina bair. the justices have ruled that

arizona: cannot make it a misdemeanor if immigrants fail to carry i-d cards, stating they are in the u-s legally. the state cannot make it a crime for undocumented immigrants to apply for a job. and police cannot arrest someone based soley on the suspicion that the person is in the country illegally. the court did uphold the part of the law that allows police to check the immigration status of anyone stopped for another violation. for more analysis on today's decision we are joined on set by wgn legal analyst terry sullivan. let's talk about the one they let arizona keep ... the idea that if someone is picked up for another crime they could then ask for the papers ... >>the left that one provision which is much ado about nothing ... first the police officer needs to make illegal stocka legal stop and

and the federal government says that the states cannot override federal law in this matter ... they just can't take someone and say that they cannot ask for a job or pursue a job and make this a crime ... here's an example: if you have someone from mexico in phoenix arizona and accepts a casual offer for a job that person can be charged ... so this was a struck down and i think the court did a good job saying that the states can not instruct federal law in this matter or others ... >>de think leaving the door open with this one ... arizona were

an inaccurate version of an nbc news interview with jerry sandusky may be used in his appeal of his sexual abuse conviction. the former penn state assistant football coach was found guilty last week on 45 counts of child sex abuse and child endangerment. before his conviction, defense attorneys asked for a mistrial on the grounds that prosecutors showed the jury a version of

in medical watch.. a new study suggests a chemical used in plastic toys and pacifiers may be linked to higher rates of obesity in children. the chemical is called dehp.. and it belongs to a group of chemicals known as phthalates. the study found children with the highest dehp levels had nearly five times the chance of being obese, compared with those who had the lowest dehp levels. the researchers say dehp may reduce the effect of the male sex hormone androgen which lowers body-mass index.

it may also disrupt thyroid function, which plays a role in weight gain. women who have in vitro fertilization early in life may be at a higher risk of developing breast cancer. australian researchers followed more than 21,000 women for about 16 after fertility treatments. the women who started taking fertility drugs around the age of 24 and underwent ivf had a 56 percent greater chance of developing breast cancer than those in the same age group who only went through fertility treatments without ivf. there was no increased risk for women who started fertility treatments when they were about 40.. whether they had ivf or not. taking a nap can be more than just rejuvinating. a new study by northwestern univirsity shows you can learn while asleep! participants in the study learned how to play two tunes. researchers then played one of the melodies while the participants took a 90-minute nap. when they attempted to play both melodies again... fewer errors were made while playing the melody that was played during their nap. researchers say the study suggests memories can be reactivated during sleep and
