we have been unable to reach the owner of that home neighbors say that the family allows neighborhood children to use the pool provided an adult is present ... he climbed the fence with two other boys and men into the pool next door there were aged 10 and 11 years old when he did not surface the kids pounded on the owner store he pulled the child from the pool when the paramedics arrived he had been under water for several minutes and was not breathing ... he was pronounced dead one hour after arriving at the hospital ... >>i just had my grandchildren playing in a little pull i was frightened to leave them ... the thought is a terrible >>a few neighbors were thinking of their own grandchildren when they heard what happened ... the lake county coroner's office

says they want to run further tests to be sure there isn't deaf underlying medical condition before ruling on the cause ... a man is now charged with murdering his mother in chicago's burnside neighborhood. 34 year-old earnest l. mcgee is accused of shooting to death aletha mcgee at her home at 90th and dobson. police found her body after relatives reported they hadn't heard from her in a while. they said a key was found broken off in a door lock outside the house. earnest mcgee is expected to face a judge today. fire department divers are back at a lake in the far north suburbs today ... searching for the body of a man who may have drowned. police say the 62 year-old man jumped into west loon lake yesterday afternoon and couldn't get back into his pontoon boat. his 69 year-old passenger jumped in to help and had to be rescued by a boater nearby. more than 40 divers from several fire departments in lake county have helped in the search. authorities say they don't believe alcohol is involved. a group of church leaders is

offering a $3,000. reward for information that helps chicago police catch the person who shot and killed a girl in the austin neighborhood. 7 year-old heaven sutton was killed... when gang gunfire erupted at luna and wabansia wednesday night. the "leaders network" says someone knows what happened, and is challenging residents to do the right thing. the mayor expressed his outrage over the shooting ... >>this is not about crime this is about values. take your gang conflicts away from a 7 year-old ... who raised you? a 19 year-old suspected gang member is in custody, and police superintendent garry mccarthy says he expects more arrests very soon. the cook county medical examiner's office is being sued over a misplaced body. after brian warren died at saint bernard hospital late in december, his family looked for his body at the county morgue. but the family's lawsuit claims the medical examiner's

the man who shot and killed trayvon martin faces a judge in florida today. he's asking to be released again on bond. george zimmerman shot martin during his shift as a neighborhood watch volunteer back in february. he's charged with second-degree murder. he claims he acted in self- defense. a judge revoked his bond on earlier this month when he learned zimmerman and his wife didn't fully disclose their financial situation. at today's hearing simmons' lawyer played the 911 tape and zimmerman is father testified that the background noise was his son's voice ... and a medical also testified at to his condition after the brawl ... in colorado, crews are gaining ground on the massive wild fire near colorado s the waldo canyon fire is now 10% contained, but it's already scorched at least 16,000 acres. firefighters say today's favorable weather conditions are helping them battle the flames. but it may not be under control until mid-july. one person is dead, at least one missing and 346 homes destroyed. 36,000 were forced to leave their homes. president obama is on his way to colorado to survey the damage.

the u.s. house plans to vote next month on a proposal to repeal the health care reform law. house majority leader eric cantor says the vote will take place july 11th. the move follows the supreme court's decision upholding the health care law. right now president obama and the democtratic-controlled senate stand in the way of a successful repeal. but house speaker john boehner says the court's ruling is a rallying cry to elect candidates in the fall that oppose the law. the house of representatives has voted to hold attorney general eric holder in criminal contempt of congress. holder was found in contempt for withholding documents linked to the failed "fast and furious" gun-tracking scheme. a large number of democrats walked out to protest the vote. a u.s. attorney will now decide whether to press forward with charges. but that's unlikely since holder is the attorney's supervisor. the house also approved a vote that allows members to hire an outside attorney to file a civil lawsuit against holder. a u.s. army battalion commander was killed and two others injured after a shooting

at fort bragg, north carolina. one of the soldiers opened fire and killed the commander on thursday. nbc news is reporting the soldier shot the commander three times in the head and twice in the chest. the shooter was reportedly critically injured. and a third soldier is suffering from wounds. a third soldier suffered a minor gunshot wound. the solders are members of the 525th battlefield surveillance brigade. the gunman was reportedly facing a court martial for stealing a box of tools. several air force instructors are being investigated in a major sex scandal. 31 women claim their instructors intimidated, molested, and in some cases, raped them. they say it happened at lackland air force base in texas. one airman told a hearing yesterday, a staff sergeant once bragged to colleagues about having sex with a trainee in a supply closet. there are people here that feel it's ok to train these recruits and then force them into sex ... a two-star general is investigating whether similar

treatment of women took place at training facilities in 12 other states. there is still no word whether any illinois bases are being investigated. the younger brother of convicted swindler bernie madoff is expected to plead guilty today ... to charges related to his brother's multi-billion-dollar ponzi scheme. peter madoff was chief compliance officer of his brother's investment firm when bernie was arrested in 2008. bernie madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison and ordered to forfeit nearly 171 billion dollars. federal prosecutors say peter madoff has agreed to a 10-year prison sentence and to forfeit about 142 billion dollars in assets. he told the judge today he knew nothing of the scheme until his brother told him just before he was arrested ...next, a new study reveals a surprise ingredient in soft drinks like coke and pepsi. plus, the shot in the arm that could someday help smokers kick the habit once and for all. ...details on the anti-nicotine vaccine. and we have not one, but two tv hosts showing us some great grilling recipes... ty pennington and george hirsch are joining us for lunchbreak.

research and motions latest earnings are worse than analysts predicted sales plunged 43% of the first quarter and they're cutting 5000 jobs consolidating 10 manufacturing sites down to three and delaying the release of the blackberry's system again ... the company might have to sell itself break up or die ... meanwhile the i- phone turns five years old today it has generated $150 billion in revenue but some people are not celebrating "siri" that voice recognition software does not work that well

including -- student loan rates and funds for transportation construction projects. funding for highway, bridge and transit projects is set to expire tomorrow... it took congress more than two years to agree on a transporation bill... the measure headed for a vote, covers spending for the next two years. the proposal also includes a one-year, six-billion dollar fix, to prevent interest rates on student loans from doubling on july first ... to six-point- eight percent. peoples gas has been ordered to pay 2.3 million dollars in refunds, for making illegal charges to its customers. the illinois commerce commission made the ruling yesterday. it had initially approved a request from peoples gas to charge people more to pay for upgrades to gas pipelines, but later decided that was illegal. customers will begin to see the refund beginning in july and will continue to be credited for about nine months. those refunds will amount to just pennies for each billing cycle. metra just took a big step to make life easier for commuters...it now has a new feature on its website that

allows some cell phone users to track up-to-the-minute information on its trains. it's similar to the one already being used by the cta for its buses and trains. the new metra feature, "rail- time tracker" can only be used on i-phones, i-pads and android phones for now. metra says it's also looking into how it can someday provide free wireless internet service to its commuters. besides sugar and caffeine... guess what else is in your coke and pepsi? alcohol. scientists in france say they found small traces of alcohol in half a dozen brands of coke and pepsi. both pepsi and coke say natural fruit can ferment and produce traces of alcohol. the alcohol amount though, is extremely low... but some religious groups who abstain from alcohol may have to change their soft drink choices. the bulls make no trades to move up in the draft. who they did take for the 29th pick.. coming up in sports.

a former chicago alderman and a former cook county commissioner have been charged in a public corruption case. federal prosecutors say, ex- alderman ambrosio medrano and ex-commissioner joseph mario moreno took kickbacks, to sell bandages to the area's public hospitals. moreno is also accused of personally taking a 5-thousand dollar payoff to support a waste-transfer station in cicero. for medrano, it's his second corruption indictment. he pleaded guilty in the 90's to taking 30- thousand dollars in payoffs as part of the "silver shovel" scandal. items belonging to former cook county board president todd stroger and his late father, john, are going up for auction this weekend. all of the items were kept in a neglected storage locker.
