performed tomorrow ... a pregnant woman from gary and a teenage boy were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the lawndale nieghborhood. it happened in the 1600 block of south hamlin avenue just after police say the 22 year-old woman was hit in the chest, and a 16 year-old boy was shot in the arm by a gunman in a white minivan. the driver of that minivan was arrested. the woman is in good condition and her unborn child was not hurt. the boy is being treated at the hospital. one suspect is dead and charges are pending against three others, suspected of a home invasion in northwest indiana. and police say the incident was not random. police say the four suspects approached a woman at her home in valparaiso, asking for directions. they forced her inside her home beat and robbed her. the woman's neighbor followed the suspects as they sped off in a car. he chased them for ten miles to hobart where the suspects crashed their vehicle. the suspect who died, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. police believe the incident had been planned for some time. the deceased suspect is a 20

year old man from crown point. his identity has not been released the other three suspects are being held at lake county jail. the woman's neighbor is in surgery to remove the bullet from his hand. the woman was treated at the hospital for her injuries. we're now hearing the 911 call from a woman who fell into a manhole in palatine on monday. the 74 year old had a few minor injuries but couldn't get out... so she used her cellphone to call for help. while on the phone with a 911 operator... police were able to track her phone's signal and rescue her. >>how far down are you? >>are you injured?

>>i think i have sprained something a little bit i am about 4 ft. down i have been trying to grab hold of the manhole but it is wobbly here ... megabus has settled a five million dollar lawsuit filed by the family of a man who was struck and killed by one of its buses. in february of 2010, 64 year-old wes krueger was crossing the street at adams and des plaines when he was hit by the bus. krueger was pinned under the bus and later died at northwestern memorial hospital. the driver of the bus was ticketed for reckless driving and striking a pedestrian in the crosswalk. the accident happened just blocks from tuesday's fatal crash ... where a megabus hit and killed a 76 year-old woman. for the second time in a week, it appears a tire on a megabus popped on a major interstate. a bus was on its way from atlanta to charlotte when one of its tires apparently blew. the driver was able to safely

pull the bus over and evacuate all passengers before the bus was destroyed by fire. last thursday, a megabus traveling from chicago to saint louis crashed... killing one passenger and injuring 30 others. a new book about rod blagojevich is making damaging new claims against president barack obama. the book is called... "golden: how rod blagojevich talked himself out of the governor's office and into prison." it claims undercover recordings caught the former governor saying he had heard that convicted influence peddler tony rezko secretly channeled 25,000 dollars to obama's 2004 senate campaign. the book also says federal investigators pursued the claim but ultimately gave it little credence. an obama campaign spokesman calls the accusation preposterous and false.

blagojevich was also reportedly considering putting the actress helene very into playallie berry in in the former senate seat of president obama said that he could " have a shot at having sex with her " ... illinois congressman joe walsh is being criticized for referring to president obama as "son." the remarks were made at a fundraising event in elk grove village over the weekend. walsh was referring to the tea party movement he believes will sweep the president out of office in november. "the daily herald" reports walsh said... "it's going to respectfully pick this president up and pat him on the head and say, son, son, son mr. president... ...you were never ready to be president, now go home and work for somebody and find out how the real world works." a civil rights group accuses walsh of stirring up racial fears. walsh responded by telling the group to "grow up, get a life and smile."

a judge has ordered former cicero town president, betty loren-maltese to pay nearly 240,000 dollars in back taxes and penalties. the ruling states that loren- maltese failed to report money withdrawn from a political fund as income in 1994. the money was used to purchase a new cadillac and to invest in a golf course with mob connections. loren-maltese served more than six years in prison for her role in a scheme that bilked cicero out of more than $12 million. red line commuters who have been forced to deal with slow zones for years will see improvements as soon as next year. the cta announced that it will be spending an additional $15 million to eliminate slow zones on the line. that, on top of the already $86 million being spent rehabbing other stations. the plan is to replace more than a mile of deteriorated tracks that keep trains from running at normal speeds. the latest pictures of mars look strikingly similar to the california desert. the color photos reveal gravelly terrain with what appears to be mountains in the backgroud... similar to the landscape of the mojave desert. curiosity is headed to mount sharp... a mountain several miles from its current location. nasa scientitsts hope believe they'll find evidence of water there.

lawyers for george zimmerman will seek a "stand your ground" hearing in an attempt to have the case against him dismissed without ever going to trial. his lawyers made the announcement today on zimmerman's legal defense website. under florida's stand your ground law, people can use deadly force, instead of retreating, if they believe their lives are in danger. zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17 year-old trayvon martin in sanford florida. police returned to the site of a former grocery store in new

york to search for more evidence in the 19-79 disappearance of 6- year-old etan patz police brought out several large paper bags wednesday from the basement where 51-year-old pedro hernandez says he killed patz. hernandez worked at the building as a stock clerk. patz disappeared on his way to school. police have not said what is in the bags. hernandez was charged in july with the boy's murder and remains held without bail. she is consider china's "jackie o"... now the wife of a former chinese politican is now awaiting the verdict in her murder trial. the closely watched trial of gu kailai was held under tight security today. the trial has now been adjourned... and justices are deliberating the case. a verdict will be announced at a later date. gu and an aide are accused of poisoning the victim last november. her husband was once considered one of china's rising political stars, before he lost his job earlier this year. the united states began a landmark project today.. cleaning up a dangerous chemical left behind from "agent orange" spraying during the vietnam war. the u.s. military used about 20 million gallons of "agent orange" and other herbicides during the war to destroy enemy cover in the jungles of former south vietnam.
