tomorrow marks the 200th anniversary of the battle of fort dearborn a deadly hand-to- hand fight between two of the groups trying to lay claim of chicago during the war of 1812 but some distinguished historians are asking us to use the bicentennial to rethink that important story of how chicago was born. a lot of people don't even realize there was a port here before there was chicago and it was so important to the settlement of this area. if you stand on any corner of michigan and whack produce stand near dearborn a small military post on an island where the chicago river mets like michigan.
