he had surgery for bladder cancer six years ago. at the time, doctors said the cancer had not spread to other organs. >> we should be concerned, but we need to wait for more information. >> this man is a doctor at the university of chicago. he said based on the information today, it is possible francis cardinal george had a kidney cancer that spread to the liver or could be another cancer of the tissue that lines the urinary tract, and that could be connected to the previous bladder cancer. >> the biology may be linked. if you have cancer ran one part of that tissue, you are predisposed for that same type of cancer. >> the cardinal will work with his doctors on a treatment plan which could include medication and chemotherapy based on how aggressive the cancer turns out to be. meantime he is still planning

employee pensions. by the end of the day, lawmakers left springfield unable to make changes in just their own pension system. the failure to move on legislatures pensions, let alone those of state workers coming university employees, and suburban and out of state teachers, led to a spate of finger-pointing. republicans wanted full scale of reforms, and said it was a democrat conspired election-year cover since it would not make a dent in the system's $83 billion unfunded liability. >> the exercise today was a huge disappointment. it was a farce from the get go just to be something to provide political cover. >> but it was the democratic governor who pushed for full- scale reform in the nation's most underfunded pension system, only to finish the day asking for reform adjust their own pensions. he blamed republicans on that. >> it is clear to me that we

they have a system that literally robbed them of their education. >> no more, says the mayor, it is the end of the five hour, 45 minutes school day, the shortest in the country. he is here at spencer technology academy and what their dwelling with the extra time. there are 20 additional minutes of literacy, 15 more minutes of math, and extra one-on-one instruction. and the fact is, every minute counts, they say, when you have close to 800 kids from kindergarten to eighth grade. >> that scheduling was challenging, but the reality is we are able to provide more uninterrupted instruction. >> several teachers we spoke to on camera and off camera said the extra 52 minutes every day helps them with vitally important. time. >> sixth grade class is different from eighth grade. the extra time to prepare.

>> don cornelius, the creator of soul train, and doctorate posthumously into the illinois broadcast association hall of fame. he passed away in february, but days before his death, he was notified of this honor and accepted. his induction comes 42 years to the date of soul train's debut on a chicago tv, a program which was later syndicated nationwide. cornelia's hosted the show from 1971 until 1993. members of his family were on hand to accept the award. >> congratulations to them. let's look at the next seven days which includes the air show. >> a beautiful weekend.
